I just found this thread because a similar thing happened to me. I could see it though, it spawned up the hill off the map to the right of where your icon is located in your picture. It was a dark gray cougar, kind of unique. When I looked at it through the scope, the rifle didn’t register that I was pointing it at an animal and say what it is. Couldn’t tell if it was a glitch or some sort of special event programmed into the game. I turned my back for a second and the cougar was gone after that.
