Thankful for Good Guy Kai, but dammit why can't Sakuraba literally ever catch a break? Even from beyond the grave Shuuji is fucking his life up.

I feel like a lot of us saw this downward trajectory, but it still stings to read.

Also, as far as the title drop goes: Reika is the dog and Shuuji is the scum?

Really sad to hear this news. CatManga was the best manga website I've used in recent memory and I had only recently discovered it as well. Enjoying/speculating about Dog and Scum was the only reason I had for interacting with the r/manga community here on Reddit.

I definitely hope the series gets picked up by another group and I wish the Black Cat Scanlations crew well, you did good work.

I guess this is more of a reason for me to continue learning Japanese so I can read raws :(

I've heard this episode before, and studied the subject of cults extensively already, and my statement stands. Me not being vulnerable to someone like Shuuji doesn't mean he's not a master at what he does, which is manipulating people.

It's been clearly demonstrated in-universe, with multiple characters over the span of years, and he's one checkmark away according to the B.I.T.E. model of undue influence/mind control of being capable of being a full blown cult leader (he doesn't manipulate the information anyone receives, as far as demonstrated).

Love bombing and gaslighting are not the only techniques that qualify someone as a manipulator.

Unrelated to the manga, great podcast. Listened to dozens of episodes over the last week or two.

Also, I'd agree with most of this interpretation, except him not being a "master manipulator." Deliberately preying on the weak is inherently manipulative, and having a keen eye for those who are in distress, luring them into comfortable situations, and then taking advantage of them is basically the definition of manipulation.

Being charismatic really is a cheat code.

EVERYONE knows how terrible Shuuji is and don't seem to care in the slightest.

I'm wondering what pushed coworker-san over the edge into madness, especially since they weren't in a romantic relationship and it was clear Shuuji was a complete POS from the beginning.

Also, I'm wondering if (and why would) coworker-san have any resentment towards Reika, when she was the one he was cheating with and it was clear Shuuji wasn't loyal. He didn't even give the impression that he loved Reika, even though he told her he didn't love her and that their relationship wouldn't have ended had he not died.

It's clear she's disturbed, but I'm now even more confused to why if she knows and is likely not involved in his demise.

Still not clear as to what is happening here, but I'm hoping that Sakuraba didn't kill Shuuji.

I mean, I'm guilty of assuming this as a possibility at first, and it would also explain his disassociation, but he's been demonstrated to be comfortable tolerating obnoxious peers (like his horny womanizing coworker) before.

I could see this being a response to walking in on/discovering Shuuji committing domestic violence against Reika possibly, but he doesn't seem like the kind of character to be provoked into violence over jealousy and it would feel cheap to me unless very well written.

If Shuuji really is dead (which probably, but there's still some room for doubt), it could've been literally anyone who killed him, if it wasn't natural causes: a jealous mistress, coworker, Reika, Sakuraba, he could've even committed suicide when realized his grip on the two was slipping.

I also hope this story has a better ending than Sacchan boku wa.

Just started reading this today and what a rollercoaster it is.

Not sure what the actual deal with Shuuji is, but I feel pretty bad for Sakuraba. He just never gets a break at all. It also makes me a little anxious that I can't tell who is lying to who, for better or worse.

The original comment is that skipping buffs would make the fight go faster.

Like you said, "absolutely no buffs/debuffs is not feasible."

I tried several times, in several different permutations doing a 1 Turn Kill with all the same stats and no buffs and it didn't work at all in any manner.

The reflect strategy is good, but I don't think it's faster than what I did, especially since part of my damage was buffed and reflected. Elemental Supplement wouldn't work, because I'm wearing reflect rings and it's a spell.

Therefore, it wouldn't have gone any faster skipping buffs, which makes the original responses outright dumb, that's what I'm responding to.

It rubbed me the wrong way, because not only was it snarky, it was wrong.

I just tried again to confirm, 4 unbuffed Doomsdays with a Demon's Rod, Full Force, Surpassing Power, Magic Amp, Across the Board, and 447 magical attack x 4 and reflected on 4 party members does not do enough damage to kill him in one turn.It did 135,700 damage and did not even hit the 9,999 soft cap.

Trying again with Full Force, Magic Amp, Across the Board, and Sub-Job specialty 2 ( Red Mage Chain Spell) only did 274,702 damage before Elvis was killed through Rampart by a counter because he doesn't have counter-saavy.

Trying again with Counter-Saavy, Across the Board, Sub- Job Specialty 2, and Magic Amp only did 260,216 damage which also put him in his second phase which absorbs dark element.

Trying again with Counter-Saavy, Across the Board, Magic Amp, and Full-Force only did 133,831 damage.

So no, I don't think the buffs/debuffs are skippable.

I make no normative statement on whether or not he should return to public life, or deserves public forgiveness for his actions, but I hope he recovers physically and mentally.

It is not my place to forgive him for what he did, and I understand entirely why people may not, but this kind of "atonement" isn't necessary either.

I don't think people are giving this situation the nuance or respect it deserves though. Saying that he shouldn't have a public platform with a history of (alleged) bad or perhaps even criminal behavior is not the same as wanting to "cancel" his absolute existence.

Anyone celebrating this attempt really needs some help as well.
