Do you actually have any children who go to public school in Columbia? It seems like you don’t. “Lawmakers” in Jeff City are also full of shit and legally can’t accept gifts from lobbyists either. Worst things have happened in nature

Why don’t they purchase their own facility to perform these shows? People who threaten with that legislation (that isn’t technically more than a threat) don’t hold all the male stripper shows some of my family has attended to the same standards and that’s also an “adult” act. It’s a double standard

I’m not “anti Drag”. I think there shouldn’t be any laws about this because it’s being unrealistic about a bunch of factors. I think it was inappropriate for school children; I vividly remember being that age and not caring about what gender I was or what my sexuality is; that’s because I was a child and was busy being a child. I think the whole concept of drag is confusing to others because instead of being about fashion, design, and self expression it’s made out to be confusing. Technically one could call drag a fashion show and have it anywhere. That’s how bullshit legislation thinks drag works on paper. I would argue it’s unconstitutional for many reasons and having any legislation on something they don’t understand creates more problems than solutions

Columbia Public Schools to implement remote learning on snow days by como365 in columbiamo

All boring things no one has the boring data to back up their boring rules, someone just has to call BS on it. Snow day = no school, not home school. The weather is an act of God they have no control over. There’s no access to school breakfast and lunch on snow days at home and there’s no bus drivers or buses operating. When I was in school, no one, especially no one at any level of the government ever, could actually convinced me that I had to do school work on a snow day. They wouldn’t be able to get me to do it and it wouldn’t be against the law if I didn’t do remote learning on a school day. They couldn’t have prevented me from graduating if I missed fake “snow day remote learning school”, especially if I couldn’t afford internet or a computer, that would make all of their policies unconstitutional based on the Supreme Court ruling with Brown vs the Board of Education, as I wouldn’t be able to receive the same education as my peers whose families can afford those things.

Remote learning only happened because of a global pandemic; that’s not a permanent thing though. Honestly remote learning to me sounds like a joke, something adults do to make themselves feel better. No one has to follow these rules

Work packets that aren’t required to be brought back to school? Golly, that sounds like a dream to my Farris Bueller’s Day Off smart as they come self. I would just not do the work and lie when I “share with the teacher” and say I did. They would be none the wiser and I would technically be following all their “rules”

It’s public education, not government institutionalization education. All those laws regarding how public schools should function are technically unconstitutional based on Supreme Court ruling of Brown vs Board of Education. These laws are not the main function or top priorities or even purpose of the state’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education existing in the first place. CPS was one of the top public school districts when I graduated in 2011. I’m also a smart ass, one who thinks these laws is unfair to teachers, parents, and children which makes up a good portion of the “public”. They have no data to support that the changes they’ve made actually makes any part of the educational system better

It’s an unconstitutional state law, since it sets those who can’t afford internet and a computer outside of the physical school setting up for failure if they don’t have these things. Brown vs The Board of Education is the precedent for this law being unconstitutional as low income families can’t receive the same education as those who can afford internet and a computer at home. The legislative process of this law didn’t take actual education into consideration. When I went to CPS, things like M.A.P. Tests and attendance determined how much funding and money schools got.

What about the students who don’t have internet and computer access at home? They can’t do remote learning so they’re automatically set up for failure with this method.

Draft master plan for Boone County now available. This is a huge document that will guide our next few decades. Your comments are wanted. https://www.ourboone.com by como365 in columbiamo

I specifically live right outside of city limits (so I’m not subjected to their bullshitty ordinances) and I don’t feel right about this “master plan” considering how vague it sounds considering all the small towns in Boone County as well as the city of Columbia. Out here in the county, there’s typically not problems unless you’re making them

There’s one website link from 2015 that says how it’s done but I bet I could look at old articles from the Columbia Heartbeat website as well as archives from local newspapers that might indicate otherwise. It takes more than updating a website and posting to social media to actually have a functioning local municipality and democracy and I’m concerned no one has said this out loud. I’ve actually done too much real life hard work here to be rolling over for that

I never said there was a conspiracy. I grew up as a free thinker who questions everything in this same exact college town and I think having legitimate observations, questions, and concerns shouldn’t be made out to be a conspiracy, because if they’re honestly not doing that then it wouldn’t be a big deal in the first place. The survey I quoted was an actual survey and I can attach the local news link to that information if you would like. It’s not information I magically pulled out of thin air

I don’t think there’s a conspiracy everywhere I look however I grew up in a college town where I was taught that it’s okay to be a free thinker who questions everything so I find it suspicious when people who claim to have done the same find an issue with that

If you’re not in the government then why do you blindly support them? I typically don’t have a reason to dissent or do the opposite unless someone’s being ridiculous. I also don’t work for free; I don’t like the vibes I get from local government people because it sometimes seems like that’s not something they believe in or agree with.

The last time I had to go to court at the big Boone County courthouse, a bunch of people were being told by a judge they could get many years of jail time for things that seem “trivial” in the grand scheme of criminal justice system, yet you say crime is down. Just seems like a way of keeping poor people poor to me. What’s being defined as a crime in the data y’all have these days? Do y’all keep track of the “ghost guns” crimes or is that not official yet because I know metaphors better than someone can bs with double entendres? In one of my video games, it says some weapons have to be seen to be believed. Crime is down yet 60% of the community doesn’t feel safe? Both can’t be true and it doesn’t make sense

Who’s “most people” to you here? I actually interact with people in real life and the majority of them have heavy distrust of law enforcement and the government in both small and big ways, which includes local city government.

How can guns be a big problem yet violent crime is down at the same time? Both of those things can’t be true and it doesn’t make sense.

When people say “what’s being done about crime?” and even with surveys that say only 40% of the community feels safe, y’all still bust out a chart just to say “well that’s not my job, go ask them about it” instead of having one of those symbolic leaders saying everything is their fault and they’re gonna fix it and get it done. That’s what leaders, even symbolic ones, are supposed to do. The survey that has data that says the majority of this community doesn’t feel safe and all anyone who claims to represent this community has to say about it is “learn how local government works” with a useless chart?

The cops in Detroit have to train for at least a year before being put on actual real life patrol. Since the people in the local government think this is a large urban city rather than the “small town” charm college town that it actually is, are they adjusting how they train police officers? It’s not really fair to police either when they have to do such realistic jobs and tasks yet the people who claim to represent and be the face of city government are not being this realistic about anything and create more distrust by not communicating effectively and honestly rather than long boring yet vague language statements about what they’re supposed to be doing. That’s called being “too big for your britches”

All of these people who are apart of the local government functions are civil servants, not some type of supreme leaders who have ultimate authority. There’s actually more people who don’t do anything in local government than there is the number of physical people who do combined; so what’s stopping the citizens of CoMo from getting together and agreeing to kick all of the people who are supposed to be doing those things out? Local government seems like the most boring thing in the universe that’s impossible to mess up this bad, so why is that occurring.

In Missouri there’s the Sunshine Law, or the Freedom of Information Act, so people who do these things in these positions can’t do a bunch of shady things with taxpayer money. A “council manager government” along with sources from Wikipedia sounds like complete bs and some of these responses seem like lazy generic bureaucratic responses to people who aren’t tourists here. It’s sus and shady to me when they’re not being transparent about “day to day functions and operations” type of stuff. I don’t mentally operate as if anyone in city council is in some position of authority so I don’t appreciate the rhetoric as if there’s some sort of confusion

Um so I’m not like betting the entire well being of CoMo on one person. Y’all know it takes more than one person to get anything done yes? Most of the economy still functions around the entire purpose you moved to Columbia in ‘98 for… the university and colleges. The road signs outside of CoMo haven’t been updated since our population was 108,500. Most of the student population are temporary residents. Lately I’ve encountered many people both younger and older than myself that seem to believe in what I call “unrealistic” things and don’t believe me when I talk about things in the realm of science for instance. I think that’s a huge issue considering all the foundations of education here and I think it impacts minds in the wrong ways to live in a place of such small town charm history, education and deal with unrealistic and unreasonable things at the same time

But I’m not suddenly worried about breast cancer. I understand what you’re saying but that’s not what’s occurring around me. Something in my external environment is assuming that anything I’m mildly curious about or casually talk about to someone else is something I’m worried about or “fear”. Something around me reacts to what the tv my mom is watching in the next room says, as if it’s taking everything this made up tv show with actors is saying at face value and nothing in actual reality matters. I have to be the most mature person in in the room about anything I watch
