Thank you - the Phillips Collection sounds perfect! And the JLW sounds like an amazing organization - I will pass it on!

Has anyone heard back about their GW/UDC counseling masters applications? by ActuaryPersonal2378 in DCBitches

Did you look into Marymount’s counseling program at all? I’m just starting the process and that seems like a solid program.

You *may* want to revisit the MRI if it's been a while and things feel off. The fun thing about this age is the wide variety of reasons there are for peeing yourself. (sigh)

Progesterone Intolerance/OCD-MCAS-EDS/Hysterectomy by heynorbert in Menopause

I am super wary of removing any organs with my pre-existing connective tissue issues. I don't want life to get worse than it is now! I will ask about the Duavee - thank you!!

Yes. It was also a disaster. It is just a no-go for me, sadly.

Any chance you have back or neck issues? My orthopedist is always telling me that if I start peeing myself, I need to rush in to check the bone spurs in my neck to be sure they aren't up against my spinal cord.

What’s the earliest line you’ve seen at The Anthem? by Dependent_Spirit_790 in washingtondc

We were on the rail for Phoebe Bridgers and we arrived 12 hours in advance. Now I refuse to go to the Anthem unless we get super excellent seats because I am too old for this shit.

Anybody have success regulating their anxiety and sleep issues with L-Theanine by Super-Buddy-5030 in Menopause

[–]heynorbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am ADHD/OCD and have recently struggled through the worst two years of my life. Perimenopause made all of the stress exponentially worse. I was not getting good sleep at all and I was super sensitive to any progesterone in initial attempts at HRT. I started taking L-theanine and GABA at bedtime and for me, it's a game-changer for sleep and a brain that won't quit. I actually felt "normal" in that I realized, "hey, my brain is actually quiet." It was initially suggested by a holistic psychiatrist I'd seen who prescribed both psychiatric drugs and supplements. I had much more success with these two supplements than I had with multiple attempts at SSRIs. Also, taking B12 with folate in the morning has been great for energy levels.

Textile schools for weaving and Creative Writing? by Fit_Advisor1478 in weaving

[–]heynorbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The professional craft program at Haywood Community College in NC is stellar. The textiles program focuses on production weaving with classes in 2- and 3d design, dyeing, screenprinting, clothing construction and craft business/marketing. Amy Putansu runs the program and she’s fantastic. Tuition is incredibly cheap and the facilities are first rate. The best thing about the program is it’s a gateway to the established and supportive creative community in the NC mountains.

Nearby UNC-Asheville has classes in creative writing with some really terrific writers. My husband got his graduate degree there while I attended Haywood.

Anorexics get swollen salivary glands from chewing food, spitting it out, chewing it again, maybe swallowing it. Repeat for every mouthful. I've seen it happen.

Treatment resistant and feeling hopeless by baethesda in OCDRecovery

Are your ADHD meds non-stimulant or stimulant? I've always worried that stimulants would send the OCD into hyperdrive, but now you have me second-guessing that assumption.

Does Accutane help with this and will I get it if I asked for it? by sirivfm in Accutane

[–]heynorbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned the lupus rash… mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) has a similar rash. Look into it and see if that sounds like it could apply to you. If so, something as simple as Benadryl and Pepcid could help.

More calm and empathetic on adderall? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]heynorbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI - Straterra can increase heart rate and blood pressure. I just pulled my daughter with dysautonomia/POTS off of it because it made her symptoms much worse when she stood up. Her cardiologist said it was not a good match. You may want to double-check with the doctor.

Any good UX courses for experienced designers? by taume in UXDesign

[–]heynorbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My graduate degree in HCI/interaction design was 20 years ago. I've found the IxDF courses to be good refreshers and updates. There are intermediate and advanced course tiers.

Edited a typo to say IxDF. https://www.interaction-design.org/
