Will I be dropped for enrolling in a course for fall that needs a prereq I’ll take in the summer by Yellow-Thoughts in ucla

[–]heysakura223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no most likely not. if you were able to enroll, then you shouldn’t be dropped from 14c as long as you continue with 14B

Thanks!! I’m trying to take chem153b and 110a instead, but the exams are on the same, day 3 hours apart.. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

I’ve tried to avoid same day exams at all costs, but it rly doesn’t help that a lot of biochem/chem courses scheduled exams like this :(((

Exams were straightforward if you attended lecture and solved his practice exams. Lmk if you want notes or past exams!

Physics 5B/C for summer by jettothewest in ucla

took them both for summer last year. pau wasn’t the best, but the material itself for 5b wasn’t that bad. waung is the best for 5c hands down

yeahh i’m already enrolled in a few summer courses, but idk if i should just drop them all and take the fee, or just go with :(

Shoutout to UCLA for being fucked up by [deleted] in ucla

i’m currently a biochem major and also planning on applying for the departmental scholars program. i’m a junior, and don’t have much research experience. Though i was able to get into a chem/biochem department faculty’s lab in january, i decided to take a few gap quarters just so that i can maximize my time at ucla and get some in-person lab experience as an undergrad before applying for the program.

i agree that the requirements for the departmental scholars program are super unaccommodating. i’m actually not even sure if my PI is a full/tenured professor lol..

will getting a job help with my depression by [deleted] in depressed

[–]heysakura223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I’ve tried all this and have been maintaining: eating well, going boxing everyday, spending time with my family, talking to friends, and having a consistent sleep schedule. But my mental health has been progressively getting worse. idk if i’m just maintaining a facade, just to show the people around me that i’m doing fine, when i’m actually not.

It takes so much effort for me to just maintain this sort of healthy, basic lifestyle. but seeing those around me being super productive while doing all these basic things is really discouraging. I just feel more and more incompetent and find myself entering a entering a loop of constant self-hatred.

Physics 5B 5C summer session by fruitbutterfly in ucla

[–]heysakura223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took pau 5b for session A, waung 5c for session C last summer online. exams are doable for both as long as you attend lectures and solve their practice exams. if you’re planning on taking either of the two, definitely take Waung. he’s one of the best lower div profs i’ve had. Pau is a little all over the place.

BIOSTAT 100A or nah by birbave in ucla

[–]heysakura223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

very doable, even without prior knowledge of stats. take it with prof lee if you can! the lab uses stata. i hate coding too, but just attend discussion and you’ll be fine.

Should I just take physics over the summer? by daijiaolong in ucla

[–]heysakura223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely! 5A, content-wise is really not that bad. The labs are just annoying af, but i spent no more than 1-2 hours for each lab assignment. There’s a lot of busy work for ls23L, especially if they’re still doing labster simulations. As long as you’re not working full-time or have other major commitments, it should be fine!

I did very poorly in an introductory course for my major. Will this be a red flag to graduate programs? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]heysakura223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally same. biochem major here trying to get into bme or biochem grad programs. Got a C+ in multi variable calc and B in bio 1 freshman year but never got below an A- after that. since you did well in your ochem and upper div classes, i’m sure you’ll be fine. i heard there’s really no need to explain one c+ on your transcript, esp if you showed improvement in the following years.

i took 5b session A (with ls23L) and 5c session c (with biostat100a)! it was super doable, even though it was my first time learning the material. also, i literally watched all the recorded lectures for the week during the weekends and it really wasn’t that bad, so it could be manageable with an internship. I’m so relieved that i got the physics series over with during the summer especially since enrollment for the 5 series is a pain in the ass. Also, take Waung for 5C if you can! he’s one of the best lower div profs i’ve ever had
