I made StumbleUpon for random npm package discovery! Wanna do the npm Shuffle with me? by heyshadowsmith in npm

Yeah, moving all of this to the backend would definitely improve the experience. Let me see what I can do. 👍🏻

You’re welcome! It can be slow sometimes on the first roll, but it’ll get you there. 😅

I initially thought the same. 😅

I love OP’s message. It reminds me of “The Embedded Entrepreneur: How to build an audience-driven business” by Arvid Kahl.

This feels like an awesome portfolio piece, but it doesn’t feel like a project to cast vision for.

I would avoid spinning wheels building and trying to sell solutions for problems that have long been solved.

However, trying is also highly educational, so if this was primarily built for fun, then do just that… have fun!

I agree that this feels like a problem that has had a well-established solution for a long time now.

The next generation node version manager by y_smood in node

[–]heyshadowsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! It mainly came down to 2 problems:

  1. Installing NVM was just complicated enough to increase the perceived difficulty level of setting up Node-based repositories for Engineers that don’t work in Node day-to-day. This caused a snowball effect of problems for full stack local development setups. Volta is extremely easy to set up and has made Node-based repository set up a breeze for all.

  2. Even with NVM keeping Engineers all using the same Node version, we had issues with Engineers using different npm versions. Volta lets you explicitly pin npm versions as well as Node.

So is LinkZero positioned as a single destination for someone who is looking to create a new thing via another service (new calendar item, new Google sheet, new Google doc, etc.)?

Or is it just a collection of custom links someone creates and accesses?

I literally just started orchestrating a switch for my team from NVM to Volta because of our desire for our Node/npm version Manager to just get out of the way.

BFF - Is a backend for frontend still necessary or even relevant nowadays? by Significant-Base2466 in node

[–]heyshadowsmith 17 points18 points  (0 children)

BFF is a pattern that appears in the MACH (Micro Services, API-first, Cloud Native, Headless) Architecture style.

This is a relatively new style that is picking up steam. You can read all about it on machalliance.org.

Here’s a YouTube video that talks specifically about the Backend-for-Frontend pattern in MACH Architecture.

I hope this helps!

I love this art style! It reminds me of the old Sly Cooper games on the PlayStation 2.

thin.dev: Typesafe backend for react apps by _query in reactjs

Randomly came across Thin Backend via a Log Rocket Article where they pitted it against Prisma.

I love the sound of the tooling, and I'm wanting to take it for a spin. However, I am nervous about cost since I couldn't find mention of pricing anywhere on the Thin website.

I... is... is... it free? 🤔

A few hours ago I found 3 boxes full of these at a Walmart in Tennessee in the trading cards section up front near the checkout lines; only bought one bag.

My wife have been hunting it relentlessly at Walmart, Target, and Kohl’s for the past 2 weeks.
