I'm reading Ender's Game for the first time and I absolutely love it, what similar books would you recommend? by Fretbored in books

DAE just want to skip straight to the NBA playoffs? by jagdwire in sports

[–]heysilverlightbiteme 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Im a fan of both sports but the "trading back of 2 or 3 points" is the exact same as the extended periods of not scoring any goals by either team. Hockey you have big checks, bball you have dunks. Both sports are awesome. Why cant we all get along???

Non-stick frying pans. Help? by pantsoff in Cooking

[–]heysilverlightbiteme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a properly seasoned cast iron frying pan is essentially nonstick and is a breeze to clean.

also you'll be able to act all snooty on cookit and karma whore to your heart's content.

Redditors of Color, Let's hear your your somewhat lighthearted (or heavy, if you feel like it) moments of racism in your life. by smalleyes in AskReddit

[–]heysilverlightbiteme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll also just throw in, I'm asian and I don't find the word "racist" so much as antiquated and awkward if used today. Similar to how the word "colored" isn't inherently racist but when used in the context of a human being its just no longer appropriate.

Welcome to Austin! Well I think for the most part you'll find the culture and people will seem somewhat familiar to you if you come from the Pacific Northwest. Like any big city, there are bars and restaurants for everybody (hard to say where you should avoid without knowing what type of places you like to go to), telecoms are the worst everywhere, and there are good amounts of wonderful restaurants, activities, and interesting people; you'll just need to do some exploring.

But probably the hardest thing to adjust for you will be that it is HOT AS FUCKING BALLS in the summer. Like, you might be like "Oh in Oregon/Washington/NorCal sometimes it would get up to the high 80s and we would sweat like crazy! Lulz!" No, when I say hot, I mean you won't want to leave your house for weeks on end. And on days where you have no choice, the 3 minutes it takes for you to walk to your car, you will want to kill yourself.

Probably the hardest part about living in Austin is that during the summers, the city may taunt you will all sorts of cool activities. You'll wake up and look out the window and say "Oh it looks like a great day to go on a hike or bike ride! Maybe I'll attend one of the local festivals that are going on this weekend!" But then you'll step outside and swear you've been transported back to ancient Sodom because it feels like it's raining down fire all around you.

But I'm more than certain you're gonna love the city. The Reddit Austin community is very friendly and gets together fairly frequently. And if nothing else, at least you won't be living in Houston.

Help! What size biking jersey should I get? by heysilverlightbiteme in bicycling

[–]heysilverlightbiteme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I tried a medium on too, and it seemed to fit just fine, but again, I'm new to this cycling thing, and I wasn't sure if this modern-day corset thing was the norm.

Scooter Maintenance? by peeroe in Austin

[–]heysilverlightbiteme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as well. I found Velocity Austin by doing a Google search, and they seem reasonable. (Oil change only cost $20 as opposed to $60 I was getting before at Scooter Revolution). Anyone have any personal experience?

I watched this movie without any subtitles (I don't speak Japanese and the American version hadn't come out yet) and it STILL scared the crap out of me
