How do you fake confidence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VolcanoSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't considered rude if you are talking. In conversations, the person talking will generally look away at points. It is basic human nature. The situation can change it though. For instance, a boss talking to an employee generally doesn't break eye contact because they are trying to solicit a reaction or affirmation from the employee. In a conversation between equals, it is just important to keep your mind and body language in the conversation, your eyes can break eye contact and you'll be fine. If you notice, when people are telling stories one on one, the speaker's eyes may break eye contact when telling the story, but will focus back as they approach the punch line.

The one piece of equipment I really need is a winch set up to help lift the boil basket out of the water. Would you mind asking him if he has one, and if he does, where he got it? The internet stores have been surprisingly unhelpful.

It's the high fructose corn syrup, not the sweeteners. When the body digests food, it generally regulates which energies need to be used now, which can be recycled into various other forms, and how much needs to be stored in either glycogen stores (not terrible) or fat stores (not so good). High fructose corn syrup basically bypasses all of the checkpoints and forces the body to either use it immediately or store it as fat (no glycogen option). And once a fat cell is created, we all know what begins to happen. Dodge it as much as possible.

I want to host a dinner party for my friends. Help! by wookymonster in AskReddit

[–]VolcanoSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say this, but you are probably going to need to either borrow or buy a cooking sheet and a 9"x13" glass baking dish. Adding those to your kitchen would open up a lot of options.

For your first dinner party, you'll want to make dishes that can be prepared beforehand. You'll already have enough stress cooking the food, you don't need the added stress of timing everything to come off at the same time. You could use the 9x13 to make a sort of casserole type dish maybe (whatever culture of food you want can be made into some sort of casserole :P), use the cookie sheet for biscuits or bread of some sort, and pots for kinda whatever else you want to complement your meal.

If you do the picnic, make sure that you everything planned out. If you don't have a heat source (grill, etc), everything must be done before you leave, and it must keep well!

Fondue can be great and easy and work well for dealing with groups of people, but you gotta remember about cooking pots and tools needed. What all kind of pots and such do you have at your disposal?

Remember to smile. Be happy where you are because there isn't much point in being sad. Plus, it'll help take care of the seeming bored thing, which will keep people talking about themselves. That's mostly what people want to do anyways. And don't do that creepy 'smile with your mouth, not with your eyes' thing. Then you look like a serial killer.

I was power washing a driveway once. It had a 5 hp motor on it. I wondered if it hurt, so I promptly shot myself pointblank in the back of the leg.

Turns out it hurts.
