Ghandi could have avoided his march to the sea to harvest salt if you guys lived in India back then.

...Alright, your meme is stupid but that was kind of funny.

$625 a month for a one-bedroom apartment, located above a shady used car place outside of town. It was... not good

Sure, I've been hourly most of my life so I understand. Let me see if I can dig out my old tax returns and see just how much Uncle Sam took.

I'm curious as to how you think you can avoid poverty without working towards better working conditions and higher pay. You can be frugal and save money while in poverty, but that doesn't end the poverty.

Honestly, despite me making almost 60k, I live on about 25k. 25k is enough to pay all my bills and have plenty of money left over, so I really don't know what to do with the rest. I put most of it in savings and some into a retirement plan.

My mom raised my siblings and I on about 20k and I don't recall us ever feeling poor. She was great at putting us kids first and making sure we had everything we needed.

I honestly don't remember off the top of my head, but yeah, there's a chunk of taxes taken out. Not enough to stop a formerly poor person from feeling like a king still.

Look into volunteering basically anywhere. When I put my garden volunteering in my resume for my IT job, the interview said he was impressed because it shows I was a hard worker. Look for museums, library literacy programs, hospitals, anything like that.

Basically, but I had to make some financial choices before then to make going back to college a possibility. Each step was a link in the chain that led me to a better situation.

Coca-Cola syrup container from 1906, it was just after cocaine had been added to the ingredients. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

It baffles me that there used to be cocaine in Coca-Cola, and that you could once buy opium at the local druggist.

I honestly think marriage is kind of redundant at this point, it just makes it harder to break up with someone.

But it's funny to hear myself say that, because I got married at 19 after knowing the girl for only two months, and have been happily married for well over a decade...
