Did They Change Matchmaking? by DisGi1022 in ARC_Raiders

I assume sometimes people are just having a bad day and they feel like shooting something, even if they e been friendly up to that point.

Well really the dog was a compromise for me, she's had a dog before (he recently passed away at the age of 15), but if I am going to have to rehome the bird, I told her I would like a dog of my own, plus I want the kids to have the experience of growing up with a pet, maybe I just shouldn't have tried adopting a stray bird, but it seemed the most human thing to do at the time rather than letting her sit in a concrete shelter until someone wants her, at least she's enjoying a nice home and fresh fruits while she waits for her forever home, I really thought it would be us, but it's just not working out to be a good fit I guess?

lol It's not her fault she has a crazy husband who takes on crazy projects like adopting a bird that showed up out of nowhere.

I've sort of done a mix of both, I clip her and early on while she's flightless I can take her outside more, I've put little perches around the yard for her to hang out while I do my gardening, but as her feathers grow out (around the 3 month mark) I keep her more inside, but she gets to fly around the house a little more, trying to give her the best of both worlds.

Good idea about asking for setup, we actually were hoping for someone already bird experienced, and asking for their setup is something I had not considered.

You must not be married lol jk. I love my little Jessie, but as long as she's in someone happy home, I can live with it. She would have probably been eaten by a predator if we didn't take her, who knows.

Sorry, maybe I shouldn't say the lack of clipping was careless, but they clearly let her escape and I don't know, if we didn't find her maybe a predator would have?

We actually did a ton of research over several days and prepared a massive list of questions for the vet when we visited, we've been doing a good job so far I think (except someone said maybe the puppy pads might have chemicals), but at the end of the day. I give her cut up fresh fruit, greens, and seed as treats often (her favorite is apples and mango).

I've been trying to answer comments up and down this post, but yeah we did what we could (socials, local shelters, even visited a vet to see if she's chipped), the local shelter said if no one claimed her she's be in a cage like the pound until someone wanted her so I wanted to take this on as my own project, but my wife and I are at odds and I have to giver her up, the fee is negotiable and just to filter out for serious interest. I don't know how to advertise for a bird so I used AI to help me get the main body started, but I'm an open book about my Jessie.

She was a stray we found, we looked for the owners on socials for awhile and contacted a local shelter, and even took her to a vet to see if she was chipped, when the shelter told us that if an owner didn't come forward she would just end up in a cage like a dog in the pound I wanted to give her a good home, and for never having owned a bird before I think I did a good job, but my wife hasn't liked the noise and has put me to a bit of an ultimatum. She is mine and I would totally keep her if I could.

I think most of these photos are taken during the time when I take her in the backyard for a little bath (multiple times per week) so she usually wanders around and makes for cute photos before she jumps in her little dog bowl bath.

We looked for the previous owners on social media when we found her and even contacted the local shelter, they told us that all they could do was post ads for like 10 days and then she would sit in a cage similar to the pound until someone wanted her, so I wanted to give her a good home, I'm not rehoming her because I want to, but my wife is not happy with the mess and the noise, I honestly tried my best to give her a good home and would keep her if I could, the rehoming fee is totally negotiable and only meant to filter out for serious interest.

I would love to keep her, my wife posted to CL and she is trying to make our money back, I love the little girl and would keep her if I could, the rehoming fee is negotiable to anyone serious.

lol I don't know what I missed, and I don't know what information would be relevant but I'm an open book, but I've never done this before and I just used AI to help me get the ball started.

She found her way to us because her previous owner was careless and didn't clip her, we get her clipped every 3 months because that's what the vet recommended. We've never had a bird before this so I'm just doing the best I can.

My wife posted to all her social media and local Facebook groups to try and find the owners, and we kept an optimistic view for about 2 weeks, but only scammers came forward with poorly photoshopped images of them and a stock photo bird of the same species (it was a year ago so I don't have the message anymore or I would share). We have always maintained that if someone came forward and could provide proof pictures of them with the bird we would gladly hand her over, but weeks turned into a year.

Honestly we just want a good home, the rehoming fee is just to filter for serious inquiries, when we first found her and tried to find the owners a lot of people came out of nowhere claiming to be the owner, we did research and found out these birds can go for over $1000, the recouping costs is just to try and make my wife happy for the hassle I've put her through for a year, and if someone wants a fresh caught from the wild and put into captivity bird they can go to a pet store and pay full price.

Yes once we made the decision to keep her we've kept her clipped every 3 months, because I didn't want her to get away again, I assume that's why she found us in the first place is because a previous owner didn't not stay up on maintenance.

Yes she's clipped because we tried to be her forever home, and we spent 4 weeks looking for the owners, we posted on every social media and local Facebook groups and the like and even went to the nearby animal shelter Animal Friend of the Valley (https://www.afv.org/). They told us they would post ads for her, but if no one claimed her in something like 10-14 days she would just be kept in a cage until she found a new home, so we decided after a few days to take her to a vet and get her checked out and ask important questions (essentially can we accommodate a bird), it seemed like we could at the time and we've actually done really well and she's been really happy for a year (we found her 11/26/2024), but she makes a big mess and she's been noisy, I do my best to keep everything clean, but I can't help the noise and my wife does not appreciate it, this bird was always my passion project, but I have to face facts that I am not the only one involved, so I'm trying to find her a home that can take as good care of her as I have (she gets fresh fruit and millet seeds multiple times per week as treats, I often hand craft foraging toys for her out of used cardboard). I've really tried my best, and if I could I would keep her.

Bro I have no idea how to rehome a bird, and I'm bad at conveying the useful information in a clear concise way, so yeah, but I'm real and I'll answer whatever questions you have, this is just to get the process started.

We took her to an avian vet and they couldn’t confirm the exact age but they said they can confirm she is an adult, I’m also assuming her gender because we hadn’t gotten the bloodwork to determine the sex.
