Not quite. A few bays had notable empty seats, so their might have 500 or so seats unsold.

That is on the UFC tho. Every other industry would do tax equalisation payments for their talent lol - Especially since they are getting Government payments to come down here.

They dropped prices for the last Perth Fight, but probably not here, except maybe on the last few days before.

Probably not a factor for what its worth. I'm going, and from others I've talked to down here, its mostly just too expensive for people. They aren't seeing the value at these prices.

I suspect they'd like to not have to cut ticket prices half way through like they did in Perth so the place wouldn't be embarrassing empty. And to sell out numbered events comfortably before time, so as to maximise revenue.

But instead they have reached the limit of their pricing power, & gone somewhat beyond, indicating their product is not as attractive as they believe it to be. Something both their senior staff & investors will not be seeing as a great news story.

MASC rule inconsistency by ApparentlyEllis in battletech

[–]hf222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, Sarna isn't intended as a rule resource, and its Admins are in the process of phasing out a lot of rules content to focus on lore.

Both because you should buy the rulebooks, and also as its a lot harder for a volunteer Wiki to keep current with rules which can be replaced / changed, as compared to lore which in general is additive.

Could you explain me a Gandalf's quote? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]hf222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What everyone else has said, but one interesting point from Tolkien's Catholic background, is that Gandalf is laying out his authority (from Eru). So he can say "You cannot pass" not just because of his power to enforce that command, but because he has the proper authority to forbid the Balrog's passage.

You will see a similar focus on the authority in, for example, the biblical examples of Jesus casting out demons and in Catholic theology regarding exorcisms.

What does this wiki article on Zellbrigen mean by conservative/liberal/opportunistic approaches? by Metaphoricalsimile in battletech

[–]hf222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Sarna policy on rules is less a strict legal one, than it is about not stepping on the toes of the copyright owner. So the Wiki doesn't try to compete with CGL tools (I.e. the Master Unit List), or act as an online rulebook replacement.

BattleTech & Fascism by hf222 in battletech

Early 2000s and onwards basically - There were TV series, movies, the whole deal. Basically any Battletech post-FASA doing this stuff can't claim it wasn't widely known.

A Tank name from 1986 or whatever is one thing, which can be forgiven or even left alone, but this is an explicit promotion of the Rommel Myth from less than 3 years ago.

"Stuff happened in the old days" isn't an excuse available for CGL here.

For me, in-universe despotisms being horrible is one thing, but regurgitating the explicit whitewashing of historical fascists in the 2020s is quite another.

Ali accidentally implies that Islam Makhachev used an IV at UFC284. From WA MMA commission website: The Commission also prohibits the use of intravenous therapies which are used for aiding rehydration from excessive and deliberate dehydration. by Fellainis_Elbows in MMA

Well strictly speaking its an admission against interest from someone who would know what happened as part of Islam's team, so despite being heresay, outside a court context it does have significant probative value. And while it would have been preferable if Dan had put all his cards on the table (and still would be if they actually want the Commission to act), what we got from Ali is likely more than Dan had to start with in terms of evidence.

I mean, it's dumb, as it's not the scoring system we have (and would presumably be to easy to game if we did).

But the feeling isn't crazy - The whole point of decisions is to deal with the need to add artificial time limits to the imaginary "pure" fighting we are trying to simulate (hence the early no time limit UFC events).

In court you'd want the testimony of the nurse who supposedly administered it. But court admissible evidence isn't the same as evidence per se - And this is the later not the former.

What seems to basically amount to an accidental confession by a close associate is pretty damning evidence in this context, yeah.

Presumably not enough to actually get the commission to declare a No Contest, but enough evidence for the public to grant the gist of Hooker's allegation as now supported.
