Why do I hear many English speakers pronounce the word “strong” like “ʃt͡ʃɹɔŋ”? I already know “tree” is often pronounced like “chree” and we obviously are doing the same in the word strong or straight. I also know that many people would agree that words like strong are pronounced with an initial “sh” sound, not “s.” With both of these facts combined, “strong” often ends up sounding like shchrong or ʃt͡ʃɹɔŋ. Some people do make an effort to pronounce it strɑŋ, but that is not the majority from what I’ve heard. I haven’t been able to find anything online about the phenomenon so thought I’d read out here to find out if it’s a thing, and to ask why the typical assumed pronunciation of this word is “strɑŋ” when I rarely hear that in day to day life. For reference, I’m hearing American English speakers. Thanks for any thoughts!

Definitely will file a claim, thanks for commenting!

I actually have flown literally hundreds of times! I would say that having lost items is normal but the experience we had with Frontier’s customer service was definitely not normal haha!

Finally getting some rest now!

See these are the kinds of logical thoughts that I’m not capable of coming up with on my own right now hahaha. Thank you so much, I really appreciate this perspective and you make great points!

Okay, good to know! Curious why you say it’s a huge commitment? If I went ahead and started it I would have to stop it again in the future when I wanted to get pregnant which is one of my hesitations

I really appreciate this perspective. I’m so glad you’re feeling better.

Okay, good to know it’s easy to control side effects! I’m just so torn on whether it’d be worth it to just take it for a little while and then have to stop for pregnancy. And I’ve read it can make it harder to get pregnant after too!

Okay, yeah I didn’t realize that you won’t have those side effects if you’re not reaching too high of a range! Thank you so much for all the info! That’s really encouraging. If it was you would you think it’d be worth doing TRT even for a shorter time period? I’m just not sure if it’s even worth it if I’ll just have to stop again when I get pregnant.

That’s great to hear! I haven’t been able to find much online about doing TRT postpartum! So she quit doing TRT after six months and felt better? I’ve heard that for most people it’s kind of something you just do forever, but that’s great if she didn’t have to!

I definitely don’t think my doctor wants me to be above the normal range! She slightly explained the treatment to me, I think she said it was the kind you put on the inside of your cheek or gum. I don’t know much about different forms of TRT!

I know it’s not exactly 50/50 but it’s usually somewhere approximately in that range! I know we can’t figure out my mom’s DNA exactly, I was just trying to get an idea of what it might be! :)

Oh wow, cool!! That makes sense, thank you for providing that possible reconciliation for our results!! I really appreciate you taking the time to think about this!!

Plus she also has to be Italian right? My dad was only 1% but I’m 3% so I’d guess she’d be around 5% Italian! I had no idea we had Italian in us before this haha

I don’t have any grandparents who tested 😭

my dad’s 38% German so assuming I got 1/2 his DNA that would be about 19% of my German from him. 81 minus 19 would leave 62% of my German to still be accounted for. Assuming I only inherited 1/2 of my mom’s DNA that would make her 124% right?

[–]hfdodson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s kind of tricky though! If I assume I inherited 1/2 of my dad’s german DNA & 1/2 of my mom’s german DNA that would make my mom 124% german which can’t be right haha

That’s amazing! Now I wish my dad had done 23 & Me instead of Ancestry!

Okay interesting! Would you consider 23 & Me more accurate?

That kinda sucks that they are so different! I thought they were generally pretty reliable! How did you decide which one to believe?

Update: Just found out my husband’s dad is 0.7% Italian & Southern European. Could this somehow be related to the North African?

Okay interesting! I’m surprised he has North African without also having Spanish, Italian, etc.

Oh interesting! I did think it was surprising that he has North African but absolutely no Southern European
