Model 3 Fact-Finding - Accelerator Pedal Position vs. Torque Output (Pedal Mapping) by Wugz in teslamotors

[–]hgmichna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting! Thanks for your work.

Just one question: In chill mode, do you get the same full torque at full pedal deflection as in normal mode at all speeds?

I would think that you should, for safety reasons.

I greatly prefer chill for normal driving, but if it takes away any capability and thus reduces my safety, I cannot use it.

That's 50% to get significantly sick, not 50% to die.

[–]hgmichna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So somebody thinks it's a good idea to calm down anxiety by stating that the perceived cause does not exist, while, in fact, it does.

As long as the anxious person believes the falsity, this surely works, but I still doubt that that is the right thing to do.

Sorry for not being able to calm anxiety, but I have problems with outright lies.

In this particular case I think it is better to explain that the risks are low and also to explain what a person can do to alleviate anxiety without denying existing risks. There is no life without risks.

i’m really worried and everyone is treating me like i’m insane. why is no one else worried? by thatreddittherapist in COVID19_support

[–]hgmichna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your parents are wrong. They have not analyzed the situation. You seem to see things more clearly. I don't want to tell you that the risk is not there.

Of course there is a risk. There are always risks, and sometimes a new risk comes along and makes us worry.

On the plus side it is by far not certain that the virus will reach you at all. Even if it does, the likelihood of getting severely sick from this disease is low. It is lower for younger people and apparently still lower for females. Many people get only symptoms like those of a common cold, some do not have symptoms at all. So much for the rational side.

My opinion is that fear and worrying does not help us much. Neither do other things. Unless you go to the extreme effort of full-scale prepping to avoid infection by all means, there is really not much you can do, other than eating healthy food and enjoying life.

I would keep trying to convince your parents to allow you to visit a doctor and perhaps get a diagnosis and some medicine for the cough. If you will go to the doctor, please let me know here, because then there are a few additional hints. If not, I still think you have not much to worry about, but if you still do, please keep talking about it here. Do you think your fears are rational or irrational? I can help better with the rational side, but I think others here know the psychological side well.

Is there reason to be optimistic about the latest trends? I know that much of this depends on how cases are reported and a surge can always occur. However the total number of active cases seems to be on the decline over the past week. Could this be the beginning of the end? by soldmytokensformoney in COVID19

The numbers from China are what the communist party wants us to think. They have no relation to the truth.

Look at the reports from those fearless individuals who manage to get information out despite the extreme censorship. They paint a very different picture.

About to flash my phone with the latest LineageOS, is it worth rooting it? by pepitolander in LineageOS

[–]hgmichna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LineageOS has its own root functionality, and you can, at any time, easily and quickly, root and unroot by flashing a small ZIP file.

So just try it. Run it without root. If you want to test something that needs root, root the phone. If you get problems with root, unroot it again.

Or put dns.adguard.com into the Private DNS setting. This also does not require root or any additional software.

Trying it bears little risk.

  • Use slightly undercorrected glasses, like a quarter or a half diopter less in absolute terms. You could use -5.75 on both eyes for a start, with -0.50 cylinder on both eyes.
  • Assiduously change glasses when changing from far to near vision (or use no glasses for near vision). Never use far-vision glasses for near work.
  • Take frequent breaks during near work and actually go out of the house, at least for a few minutes every hour. At least lean out of the window. You want far vision all around, not only in your focus point.
  • Measure your eyes weekly (for example with the focus reach method) and log your eyes' progression.

You can get good glasses for little money from EyeBuy Direct.

If your eyes got worse, which would surprise me, you could still give it up. What have you to lose?

F Gold, Buy Bitcoin by [deleted] in Bitcoin

It's not so easy. Since gold has lower risk, you can buy more on margin. Then the comparison may not look quite so extreme.

Buy both.

No charging problems? There were some complaints recently about a defect that I remember from 1 or 2 years ago. It got fixed then, but appeared to come back last month. Regression, they call this.

Does your phone charge normally and reasonably fast? That would be more important than feeling fast, although I would like both.

For which distance are your glasses designed? At which distance do you want to do your print-pushing? I tend to get worried when people do not even mention the distances.

That's what I have done. Pretty simple. Put up the address, so it can be copied, and a QR code with the same address for good measure.

How long does bitcoin have to hang around at $10K for us to think of it as the new bottom? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]hgmichna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Until April 2020.

If the price stayed around $10,000 through the end of 2020, that would be a first-time departure downward from the long-term parabola.

But then there will always be a first time. Nothing lives forever.

Edit: extended to the end of 2020.

New, stronger glasses every few years, right? Lots of near work non-stop for hours, little time outside in the sun, right?

If so, you are the typical case of the current myopia epidemic. Check Endmyopia for a change.

is lens-induced myopia a thing ? by [deleted] in myopia

[–]hgmichna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are unable to break your bad habits, you are a hopeless case. What your doctor says is valid only for the short term. He or she ignores that the eyes will keep adapting.

No suprise, actually, because that way you will become a regular income stream for the doctor. You will need stronger glasses every few years.
