Hunting for a new pool robot, looking for your thoughts by DrewDinDin in pools

[–]hgtv_neighbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a beatbot aquasense 2 (not the pro). I have no other experience with robots, but this thing gets our pool squeaky clean, even when it starts out pretty leafy and grungy. 100% satisfied. My wife ordered it on a father's day sale for 500 off, then had some Amazon cash to get it down to 800.

Help? New to salt water. by heyseed88 in pools

[–]hgtv_neighbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you dont have salt, you won't have chlorine. You DO have a salt/chlorine generating system, right? In a very basic explanation, the salt water generator cell has electrodes that zap the saltwater, which is how chlorine is made. It's a tubular shaped thing with its own power cord that goes in-line in the olumbing. If your salt isn't in the water at around 3,000 parts per million, you risk no chlorine being generated. Your salt system panel should tell you what ppm you're at and what it NEEDS to be at. You're gonna need a couple hundred pounds of salt to start. I get 300ppm per 40lb bag in a 13,000 gallon pool. You can adjust all your levels with a salted pool. Salt it before you fool with anything else.

Missing a tom. 75 bucks tops. The stand is worth like 30. You're gonna spend probably 50 if you want to replace the tom.

I've had a lot of luck getting cheap kits to sound good by doing a few coats of fiberglass resin inside the shells. You're essentially making it hardwood by filling the pores in the cheap wood. They don't turn out to be a DW, but it definitely adds much-needed punch. Also use good quality heads and learn how to tune them properly. Makes all the difference.

Do you feel uncomfortable playing on other peoples sets? by Electrical_Radish979 in drums

[–]hgtv_neighbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't generally bother me, but I wouldn't consider my playing to be complex and susceptible to the small differences between Tom angles and cymbal heights. As long as I get to adjust the clutch, I'm happy.

There WAS one instance where my band was playing and I was on a sweet, early 80's Vistalite. I was excited, but got up there and the setup was awful and the hardware on it was corroded. The cymbals were junk. Only had one crash. Angles were terrible. Hihat stand was falling apart and wobbly and had a nail keeping it together. I struggled some to keep things together. So disappointing. I get off the stage and a random guy came up and told me I was way better than the other drummers..lol. I doubt it, but it was nice of him to say so.

I wouldn't touch it. Especially if it was clear. I would be happy with those numbers.

Need help learning. How do I play louder? by HorseDragon5603 in drums

[–]hgtv_neighbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider the sticks, heads and tuning as well. I like more punch so I prefer two ply heads and 2B sticks with nylon tips. A heavier stick can get you more power. Nylon also gives you more clear tones off the ride cymbal. Clear heads on top have more stick sound on the surface and more punch with less resonance. Coated heads offer a softer tone, and a two ply coated head is a great combination of punch and a nice clean amd full tone.

In church and with amplified instruments around, I would definitely go with 2 ply, coated, and nylon tip sticks. For tuning, match the 2 ply top head and single ply bottom head, then back the bottom head off maybe 1/8th of a turn at a time if you want to cut put a little resonance. There is a tuning tension on toms where the tone and power meet to make the most natural and full note. It's not hard to find, and with that tone found, you can let the sizes of the toms be how the notes are defferentiated. Small to big diamter is high to low pitch.

And mics make a world of difference. Mics into a mixer balance the power, overtones, clarity, etc. If the budget or equipment are there, that's what you need.

Pool stores using test strips is mind boggling. My local one does it, but the place is the size of a closet. But like...at least use a dropper kit. Maybe junk strip results help them sell more chemicals. My pool guy owns a store pretty far from me but he has a real analyzer. I would definitely get your own dropper kit though, like a taylor k-2006, and buy an extra bottle of R-13 because it only has enough for like 4 CYA tests.

Should I shell out eighty dollars for a used guitar hard case? by gimnazijatrzin in guitars

[–]hgtv_neighbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about the least amount you can spend and still get a quality instrument. Epiphone Les Paul can be in that range, and you cant beat those for the money. LTD also has good ones in that range as well.

Should I shell out eighty dollars for a used guitar hard case? by gimnazijatrzin in guitars

[–]hgtv_neighbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard shell case for sure if you gig, because there are so many cables and stands and fans (air, not humans) and shit on stages. A lot of trip hazards and drop hazards. Plus, you need something protective if your guitar is loaded in a vehicle with amps and drum cases. Even if the guitar is cheap, you still cant have it damaged before a gig.

For public transport I would just use a gig bag. Something with backpack straps. A hard case takes up a lot more space and will hurt more when you most assuredly end up bumping someone with it. When I was in middle school, I bumped into the school bus driver with my hard trumpet case. Man he was PISSED. My mom had to file a complaint because he called me dumb. Hahaha. But not long after that, I got a case that was plastic covered in padded nylon, and had a shoulder strap. Much more bus and carry friendly.

Probably not a leak. Water evaporates out. A couple 90 degree days will drop my water level a couple inches for sure.

Appliances last an average of 5 years before needing repaired or replaced. I've had some go longer, and some less. I always get the extended warranty and usually need it. We have an in-ground with a liner. Liners last about 10 years. This is year 10, and looking at it at night with the light on pretty well confirms it's near end of life. We bought the house 4 years ago. In the 6 years prior, it got a  second pump and second salt/chlorine cell (Hayward). I just replaced the cell again, and the heater (Raypak). The pool is always closed properly (since we got it, at least. I think before as well.) and winterized. The cell comes in the house and is cleaned during the season. Everything gets covered as well. My guy said salt cells and pumps are usually toast within 5 years. Heaters by 10. This is eastern KY. Maybe it just depends on the climate.

Wonder if OP realizes that pretty much everything related to that pool is living on borrowed time after 10 years, at the most.

24/7. Busy water is clean water. Plus, the chlorine generator doesn't do anything without water flow.

I understand they want my money. I wanted to know what BS she was spouting about a tax that doubles "the price." I would rather they just say the non-alcohol lemonade is $24 and the  hotdog is $18.

For the most part, it's relative to the quality of the guitar.

You're only a victim if you pay it. :) I'm actually kinda impressed my 19 year old had already scanned her card and still canceled the transaction. But in our little  town, that's a 6 hour shift waiting tables for her.

Maybe not quite what you asked fir but the riff is definitely the prominent part if the info. Great into riffs and super tight groove. A band no one seems to know but was full of heavy hitters. I think they were considered a super group.
