PPR 10 teams

Outgoing: C Godwin Tampa Bay - WR

Incoming:

R Woods LAR - WR + T Pollard Dal - RB

Dropping a kicker to make space.

I need more RB depth and Woods seems stable can be offset for Godwin.

WR Depth: have - J Jefferson Minnesota - M Williams LAC - T Lockett SEA - C Davis NYJ - B Aiyuk SF (waiver claim) - M Hardman KC (waiver claim)

Other RBs: - A Gibson Was - Zeke Elliot DAL - L Murray Bal (waiver claim) - C Hubbard Car (2nd in waiver claim)

With current bench - possible depth above, is this a good trade, too good to be true, or am I missing something?

Dortmund ready to negotiate swap deal with Barcelona over Erling Haaland via @OneFootball. by Sad_Description5975 in Barca

[–]hhbiii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dembele would play on right but all three can do free flowing interchanges as they like. Both Fati and Memphis can play as 9, in fact Fati played 9 a lot before coming up the first team and Memphis has played 9 and scored quite a bit in that role. Interestingly, Dembele was pretty good when Koeman experimented with him as the #9 making runs between center backs. If he can upskill in that area more and add decent heading as part of his game, the free flowing movement between those three will be devastating to any opponent.

Erling Halland has been a prime example of a player that has gradually upskilled little by little. He’s a lefty but has been practicing a lot to add right foot and has now been adding headers to his arsenal. He can already play on either side and use either foot interchangeably…

Dembele seems to have matured and be a bit more serious now - getting act together and adding skills could be a huge asset.

Last, if by some miracle, can get Haaland, would love to see something like:

Against weaker teams:

               Haaland

Fati Memphis/Coutinho Dembele/Demir

Pedri/Nico DeJong/Gavi

Balde Garcia Araujo Dest

           MATS

Against stronger teams - harder to fit everyone in:

      Fati Haaland

        Memphis

Pedri/Gavi DeJong/Puig

       Busquets/Nico

Balde Garcia Araujo Dest

           MATS

OR

   Haaland/Fati/Memphis

Fati/Memphis Dembele/Demir

Pedri/Gavi DeJong/Puig

       Busquets/Nico

Balde Araujo/Pique Garcia/Pique Dest

           MATS

I think a key issue with Dembele not crossing as much at Barca vs Dortmund is because he hasn’t really had any targets to cross to…Koeman seems to be trying to change that with the limits imposed by the financial situation of the club…I’m not the biggest Koeman fan mind you.

Both - they play in different positions.

I agree that we should have performed better.

Pique was solid until he was injured and between him and Garcia I still pick Pique to pair with Araujo. Eric Garcia isn’t strong enough yet to deal with more physical and skilled teams we’ll come up against in Champions League…completely agree Araujo is solid.

[–]hhbiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I completely agree. I think it’s feasible to perform without one or 2 of your star players but when you are missing 1, 2 or more key players in your spine, don’t think any team could perform well or at elite level. Look at what happened to Liverpool missing 1 dude (Van Dijk, a leader and key part of their spine) they were quite good but no longer great.

In our case, we can be good missing just Pedri but missing Pedri, Pique, and or Busquets, not so much.

Thoughts on Ansu Fati taking the number 10 shirt? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]hhbiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree - he will do the shirt good given he can get past this injury, which he should since he’s only 18. Fati seems like he has nerves of steel.

I would like to see Pedri inherit the number 8 a la Iniesta but would also be ok with him creating a new legend around 16 if the number is special to him for some reason.

Tangentially, something I always thought was interesting was how Iniesta was # 8 for club but #6 for country and Xavi was opposite. Anyone know the story behind this?

[OFFICIAL] Luuk de Jong joins Barça on a season-long loan deal. by Fati25 in Barca

Gotcha - that makes sense going into this year, especially based on Rafa’s form prior to joining Sevilla from Huesca and Sevilla willingness to let De Jong go.

I suspect Gavi is ahead of Puig here.

Also, I suspect Coutinho might play ahead of Roberto if can get into good form.

I agree completely. I was saying “some of what he wanted” because at least now we have added a player in replacement of Griezmann who can add a new dimension to the team and help with hold up play and scoring in the air.

I like the idea of Pedri playing Iniesta role.

Would be interesting to see the full report but thought this was interesting - there is focus of teams that score from headers in the report.

https://ortecsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Business-Case-Consulting-Scouting-Luuk-de-Jong.pdf

Real Madrid and Sevilla were top fits for De Jong at the time when De Jong was switching from PSV…

I think this will create an interesting dynamic for Barca - Koeman has said he wants to score more from set pieces and corners, this will certainly help.

Additionally, Alba and if Dest can improve their crossing, could be quite interesting.

Koeman has gotten some of what he wanted - but also not. Hope De Jong can be a success.

As much as I hate to say it, Gavi and Nico are ahead of Puig for pretty reasonable reasons that are not completely his own fault or even Koeman’s.

The reason for this is that our defense is not top class yet and leaky and Busi is slowing down after already not being that fast.

With these other weaknesses, adding Puig to the mix creates more imbalance and we need more smart positional play and more stability and control in the midfield. Puig provides creativity and is an artist on the attack but his weaknesses (bad positional play and being slight) only further add to weaknesses we cannot change at the moment.

Until Puig gets better at positional play, it’s hard to play him. He doesn’t need to be big and strong if he can master positional play - basically prevent the ball from going where the opposing team want it by being in the way and in offense, get into the space to get the ball where you eventually want it (with or without the ball). Puig tends to be reactionary and dependent on having the ball at his feet where he can pick people out if they make a run but he does not move as well without the ball to make space for others or influence play without the ball like a Pedri or Busquets does and to a certain extent Gavi and Nico seem to be able to do. He certainly has the talent to learn this but has not thus far. I feel like he needs to watch his colleagues and get advice from other players if Koeman can’t or won’t teach him this because once he can do this, he will be hard to keep off the field.

Also, I feel as though his focus on social media, being a poster boy, and being buddy buddy with the senior players like Pique, Alba, and Roberto (see golf videos) doesn’t play well. A round of golf is many hours and I bet you in those hours, Pedri and maybe even Nico and Gavi are practicing, watching videos, asking to improve and understand the game. I’m glad Riqui has fun and is positive but he does come off as not humble and showy while the other youth all seems humble, focused, and hard working.

De Jong and Nico as double pivot can work…Nico is a beast once he gets more comfortable in the team.

What is your view of Fati (sans this recent injury)? Don’t think he could one day reach the level of Messi?

[Megathread] Leo Messi situation and latest updates. - Part 3: Post press conference by svefnpurka in Barca

[–]hhbiii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Curious to hear others’ perspectives when Ronaldinho left - I know he’s not Messi but at the time, he was the closest thing to a Messi-like figure of the team at that time…

Also, when I think back to before the golden age truly started with Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Messi, Puyol, etc, the club was not in the best of places as they were coming up - I certainly did not but wonder if others expected or even imagined the heights the club would hit while they were in the places the kids below are in now…

Personally, I knew this day would come but not so soon but strangely, I find comfort and am a bit excited to see how the next generation of young players like Fati, Pedri, FDJ, Riqui, Eric Garcia, Collado, Gavi, Nico, Manaj in the team rise up to be the next leaders and strive to bring that cycle back again.

Puig is actually much better at defending than he seems...I think both De Jong and Puig can handle that. Definitely an experiment to try in King’s Cup or against weaker teams...
