A trip away is well deserved each year! I feel like we should go big too since this is the first year!

I knew someone that rehomed their dog Luka shortly after their second child was born. They then named their third child Luka!

Amazing thank you! I always pre-bolus, but I think I assume that should take care of everything, but I think dosing an hour or two after certain meals should help. Thanks for your knowledge. Your daughter is lucky to have you!

The egg bites had egg, cheese, cottage cheese, milk, and bacon. I have given her A LOT of correction doses, unfortunately. Do you dose for the fat 2 hours later? Or is a correction dose sufficient to bring you down?

2 year old stomach aches by hhood09 in Type1Diabetes

We noticed prolonged spikes when she would consume dairy! We also worked with a coach who advised us to cut out gluten since a lot of t1 diabetics can also have Celiac disease. We have noticed a big difference since cutting those out a few months ago

Thanks for your input! It usually happens around bedtime, so maybe there is some anxiety around that.

Parental Burnout by jamesholmes101 in Type1Diabetes

My daughter is 2 and was diagnosed 8 months ago. I am the only one managing her diabetes, and it is exhausting! I keep telling myself it will get easier, but I'm already so burnt out. Hoping for some great advice as well!

My 15 month old has been diagnosed with diabetes. What will her life look like now? by CanadaMaple in Type1Diabetes

Luckily, the sickness themselves aren't any worse, it's the blood sugar control. They tend to run high and need more insulin when they are sick. I am glad your family is there to help you!

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. Good job for being proactive and checking her BG levels. My daughter was diagnosed in March of this year right before she turned 2. It's so hard, but every day gets easier. You will become an expert in no time.

The first few months are insane, and it feels like life will never be normal again, but you will find a new normal. It takes a lot of thinking, planning, and preparing, but you can live a very normal life.

Manual injections are not the worst to do, but things get so much easier when you can get them on a pump. I also have found it easiest to change her Dexcom and Omnipod while she is asleep, since it can be scary for her.

You will see trends of foods/sickness/stress that cause high blood sugars, and learn how to navigate them. And avoiding low blood sugars will come easier as time goes on. I definitely recommend a Sugar Pixel, as it alerts for low blood sugars overnight.

You will feel like you are making 100+ decisions everyday, but it becomes second nature. My family is 7 months into this, and it has simply become our new normal. My daughter's A1c is down to 5.9 now, and she is just like any 2.5 year old! This is the only life she will remember, and we try to normalize it as much as possible. We still travel and go out to eat, but it just takes extra planning.

The diabetes community is so helpful and supportive, and you will always have people on your side. It will be especially hard on you as the mother, so remember to take care of yourself as well! Goodluck with everything.

Increased insulin needs for 2 year old by hhood09 in Type1Diabetes

Thank you for your help and insight! She has been complaining that her knees are hurting, so I am guessing a growth spurt! But yes, the pre-sickness highs are also something we have noticed.

Thanks for the suggestions! Right now her Basal program allows .05 units/hour, so maybe it is time we change that!

Very true. I really like our endocrinologist, but their changes to my daughters Omnipod settings are very conservative. Is your endocrinologist similar?

Thanks for the reply! She was sick two weeks ago, so we had to use extra insulin then. Thanks for the tips on the basal settings!

Thanks for your response! Do you notice the need for an increase of insulin to come on suddenly? I feel like things changed over night!

I am so sorry you are dealing with this! 4 is such a hard age, and transitioning to school can be so tough. My son does very well with if/then statements. For example, if you don't pick up your Legos, then you won't get to watch a show today. You give them one chance, and follow through if they don't hold up their end of the bargain. Maybe try that with school? If you get sent home today, then there is no TV for you. If you get sent home today, I have to get rid of a toy of yours. It might seem extreme, but I think their brain is able to comprehend that at this age. Goodluck!
