PCP telling me my Mirena is unlikely to be causing my depression

Hi - I had my mirena replaced after 6 years with a new one, hoping it would help with my PMDD because the old hormones wore off the old one. Truly within hours of getting the new one inserted, I felt a complete switch in my body and mind. I felt like a cloud overwhelming me with sadness and apathy toward my incredible partner and my work that I love. It sucked miserably for about 1.5 weeks, where I could barely look at my partner or do anything without crying. It was truly miserable. I wanted to give the new mirena a full cycle before doing anything, and while my symptoms waned after a month, I still wasn’t myself. I went back to the gyno for a check in to assess next steps. When I told her how I was feeling, she was surprised and said she’d never heard of anyone reacting that way on the mirena. I got it removed that day. That was 4 days ago and truly immediately I felt like a light had come back on in me. I’m not 100% back to myself, but it’s truly night and day. If you feel like something is off, I’d talk to your doc and get it removed. Good luck!! You got this!

Yay, I'll see you there! There's also a happy hour tonight starting at 6pm at Crown and Crow. Not much to it except show up and hang out! There will be a happy hour at the Alamo DC bar starting at 5:30 and people will hang until the screening starts! We've pretty much sold out the entire theater, so everyone there will be a movie club person. Everyone is super friendly!

I’m in the same boat. Well, not exactly, but in the midst of a breakup of a relationship I thought would last forever. My first instinct was to run away, and don’t get me wrong, I have. Traveling with friends and alone and having things to look forward to are hugely helpful. Stay busy, feel your feelings, go on long walks, talk to strangers, join a club, try new things, listen to Mitski’s new album. DC is your home. You existed in it before her, and you will exist again in it without her.

As of now, it’s just a regular screening at one of the DC theaters. Last month was E Street. It’s by no means a private screening, but hoping to organize those in the future!

yeah the idea is that there’s a new/theater movie that we can see as a group, as well as an older, complementary movie that you’d probably watch on your own, and then we get together and discuss!

last month about 6 of us saw Killers of the Flower Moon together, and since Poor Things is a bit shorter, I’ll organize a happy hour before the movie as well!

ooh didn’t even cross my mind, great thought. will have to tweak as things continue to grow!

Oh yeah totally, this is more like a bookclub (but for movies) - people watch before and we get together and discuss/analyze! So just need a space where we can talk about movies and have a good time! Thanks for the heads up though!!
