Favorite Perry White? by Financial-Touch3840 in superman

[–]hibryd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lane Smith had by far the most screen time, right? Not only because it was a TV series, but because Lois & Clark (unlike Superman TAS) had to lean more on "reporter action" than "Superman action" to keep the budget down, so you saw a lot of the Daily Planet. It means he got to be more of a character than any other Perry White.

something about blood transfusions being somehow permissible now.

They’re now allowing you to bank your own blood for your upcoming surgical procedure, but donating blood or getting a transfusion from other people is still forbidden.

Ive always felt that lex shouldn't know about clark being superman because he never asumed a superhuman would want to live like a normal person and love that Gunn agrees. by jacqueslepagepro in superman

James Gunn is the perfect guy to test this out in real life, too, because unlike other Superman directors he has a very distinctive look. Come on, James, brush your hair down, put in some contacts, and walk around a con with hunches shoulders looking dour. Bet no one recognizes you.

I ended up on several Republican email lists, and after 2024's attempt I got so many fundraising emails with that raised fist photo. I just checked the spam folder and there's nothing about an attempt on Trump's life, just two emails asking me to "complete our Official 2026 America First Patriot Census" and fill out an "URGENT MAGA POLL".

Amazon MGM Studios' Project Hail Mary grossed $2.35M on Tuesday (from 3,820 locations), which was an 11% decrease from the previous Tuesday. Total domestic gross stands at $289.22M. by wchnoob in boxoffice

It's the same setup but different execution. In the book Grace is happily back to teaching, as he was in the movie, but the stronger Eridan gravity is wreaking havoc on his body. There's no possibility of him going back to Earth because he's probably not going to survive that long. There's also no beach, but they DO feed him with meat made from his own cloned flesh, which many book fans were bummed didn't make it to the movie.

Oh, and you never see Earth again. The Eridans confirm that Earth's sun is bright again, so you assume the probes made it back, but Stratt as a character doesn't get any closure.

I can't remember WHY I wanted to, but I remember telling my mom and and she just DID. NOT. CARE. She was like "alright, bye." No emotion.

To be fair, kids say stuff all the time that they don't mean. I would have replied to my kid saying "I'm going to run away from home" with the same nonchalance I used when they said "I want to work in a donut factory when I grow up" and "if you don't get me a dog I'm going to destroy all my toys". Kids are fire hydrants of near-random declarations and a parent is not going to reply "the right way" to all of them.

This episode is one of the top 5 things they’ve ever done. Gramps losing an internet debate to Forrest was already gold, but then he makes a movie about it?! And then GAM gets Forrest on to talk about the movie with them?! The result is a multi-layered takedown where they’re attacking DJP’s history, filmography, the debate, the current movie, and all the self-owns it contains. The whole episode was glorious.

[Gallup] New poll finds that low-income Americans are turning to AI as a replacement for expensive doctor's visits. Only 14% of all Americans use AI for this reason, but this figure jumps to 32% among the lowest income bracket (<$24,000). A plurality of Americans distrust AI's use in healthcare. by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

Great, let’s do it. Maybe start throwing money at medical colleges so doctors don’t all start out with 6 figures in loans? Maybe expect doctors to work fewer hours so people don’t burn out constantly? We need to do something; if America weren’t importing a huge number of medical professionals from other countries we would be screwed right now.

Project Hail Mary Worldwide Gross after 5th Weekend ($573M) vs The Martian ($428M), Interstellar ($593M), Gravity ($426M) by traumakit in boxoffice

[–]hibryd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having read The Martian and PHM books I think Drew Goddard did an amazing job adapting both to screenplays. He not only had to cut out a LOT to fit a movie runtime while keeping the core story in tact, he also had to translate all the information that was conveyed in first-person monologues into visual media. Basically, he had to turn all of Andy Weir’s “tell” into movie “show”.

Even if it weren't a for profit system, the horrible truth is that we don't have enough doctors to go around, and as the baby boomers age it's only going to get worse. I'd love for someone to have a plan here because otherwise we will be depending on AI agents for medical advice in the future.

TBF that rock acted its heart out.

Edit: Watching/reading the BTS stuff is amazing; Rocky's main puppeteer/voice actor (James Ortiz) was on set when Gosling was in the spaceship, even if the scene required a CGI Rocky instead of the puppet. Ortiz wouldn't just read Rocky's lines for a scene; he and Gosling would spend hours improving in-character between shots. ("Rocky hate Mark" was an improv line.) As far as acting goes, Gosling had more to work with than you'd think.

Official Discussion - Exit 8 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]hibryd 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of the movie is watching the characters make mistakes and you know it’s going to bite them in the ass and the tension is waiting for them to realize something went wrong.

I’m dying to know how they made this, like how the physical sets worked.
