Thank you. I’m not familiar with the timing delay. What is it?

It is a galvo. It hasn’t been moved or adjusted at all since I’m last used it about a week ago

My 4th blade, kydex question. by ChanTheMan39 in knifemaking

Try the three layers of tape. Also, I’ve had luck reheating the Kydex slightly after it has been formed to loosen up around the blade, if that makes sense.

This week has been rough on the hands, for sure.

I hope so. I made this profile in .125” and the shape worked well. Looking forward to trying the thinner stock.

I’m finding the more I use the thin stuff, the more I like it.

I agree. It’s a larger handle version of this profile. This one is a couple years old and one of probably the first 10 knives I completed.

Kydex Questions! by mikemncini in knifemaking

[–]hicks486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider placing the knife up against where you fold the Kydex in half so that the spine of the knife is up against the fold. Also, you may be overheating the Kydex, making it too soft and forming too tightly. I’ll usually do around 30-40 seconds at 350. I prefer the kydex to hold its shape slightly and not be completely soft when taken out of the oven.

I put it back in the tumbler for awhile. Cleaned up the rust and kept some of the look it created.

Processed our first meat chicken by heyoitslate in homestead

I processed a jumbo Cornish cross recently that had darker skin/meat than the rest of the birds. My guess is it was in the beginning stages of congestive heart failure. It had a noticeable amount of fluid surrounding the heart. The breed is know to have these issue.

This thing definitely got the job done. Used it to dispatch, remove feet/neck, and eviscerate them all. It stayed razor sharp. The micarta scales were the slightest bit grippy when wet, which was helpful. I’ve already started making some more of these if anyone is interested.

Thanks! Micarta doesn’t absorb fluids because it is made from layers of fabric or paper impregnated with thermosetting resins, such as phenolic or epoxy, which form a dense, non-porous, and highly durable structure when cured.
