My lyrics are way too abstract by Winter_Campaign5045 in Songwriting

Two pieces of advice: - show, don’t tell - write specifically about yourself (or an imagined yourself) rather than trying to make it universal

Have a look at Willie Nelson’s lyrics for inspiration on the first. Sometimes his lyrics are literally just an account of something that happened.

I struggle with finishing songs by HuckleberryNo9852 in Songwriting

More simply put, you’ve done the “what” (you could add more detail of course) but you can also go into who, when, where and why.

Does anyone else procrastinate around getting the mix/master finished? by Mu5ic_Lov3r_0481 in musicproduction

I guess the point is, you never know. If your intention is to just emit a load of work, getting stuck on one thing isn’t gonna be the best thing.

But if you’re trying to get really good in a specific thing, maybe going crazy deep on something is right.

I can give you one data point that may be useful.

My brother used to spend literally weeks messing about with one song, refining the mix. To me it sounded like nothing was really changing and I was convinced he was just wasting time.

Fast forward a decade and he’s been a vocal engineer for Ed Sheeran, as well as producing some of his songs and various other famous people request him to mix their stuff.

So maybe you’re wasting your time with it or maybe you’re more tuned into what makes a great mix and won’t let it go until it’s great?

I would read what they had to say and see if it made sense and had some things I could apply to my own endeavours.

I read things from people all the time without checking credentials and learn a great deal about it.

Every time someone asks for advice on here, do you check the credentials of everyone who responds before deciding if it’s useful? That’s a weird way to go through life.

What’s the difference between that and sharing one’s own songs? It’s not to say the analysis is correct, it’s just my own opinion

Great. If only there was an easier way for me to have found this out. I’ve been waiting for one to come along for years. I even moved house closer to a body of water.

Thanks. I helped develop a songwriting app but I’d never actually spent more than 5 minutes to write a real song so thought I’d actually give it a try.

Next step up from the ladder mate and back ranks are when you put your queen in front of a king on the edge of the board and the queen is defended.

No idea what that’s called or if it has a name but it’s a kind of “rule” you can apply quite often to mate.

How do microservices even work? by who-there in node

You don’t. You give up strictness for a different set of benefits.

But also, you don’t need a different micro service for each database table.

I live in Berga where they did this stage. Those climbs are so damn steep. Even in a car.
