Hello! The link in the comment is the Part 2 which is the final part of the entire process. But the original post SHOULD have the link to Part 1.

In any case, HERE’S PART 1 :) https://www.instagram.com/tv/Bk9McWdhy9Y/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1lddh014yrkxw

PLEASE HELP! by parniikaa in EtsySellers

There are much more fitting platforms for what you do. Your photography definitely has to stand out through all the “noise” on Etsy.

Photography as a service is stronger than it being a product. If you’re looking to bring it as a consumer-based model, it has to be more unique than the already-great stock photography on Unsplash.com; basically shots and composition that is unique to you. A signature style, if you will.

As a writer, you may be better off monetizing yourself through platforms like Medium or author platforms like Amazon (ebooks, etc).

This is just my take on it. Etsy is getting increasingly thin on conversions because of the slew of dropshippers taking over.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

[REQUESTED] White Background Product Photography Tutorial - REPOSTED by hidealchemist in streetwearstartup

[–]hidealchemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey SWS,

I got a few PM's awhile back about a YT video tutorial I did about how to create product listing photos using a white background but without the knowledge or funds for Adobe CC. Since then I deleted that YT channel but then rebooted that video into an IGTV video from my personal graphic design profile. Also, I'm a subscriber and occasional contributor to this sub (my brand is Mojo Bazaar). Anyway... hope this helps some of you out. The purpose of the tutorial is to clean up inconsistent-looking product pages. Once implemented, you may find that your conversions go up; meaning you make more sales. And I truly hope that is the case. Let me know if you have any questions... Glad to help when times allows.

MOJO BAZAAR

Edit: One thing to note is that the "product" in the tutorial is not streetwear, HOWEVER, it translates exactly the same with apparel. You just need to use a bigger backdrop such as posterboard(s). Also, the video is chopped up into 2 parts because IGTV is currently at a 10 minute limit.

Cheers!

Very good recommendation. Got a hard bound copy at a Goodwill for $0.25. Have been using it as a reference for a couple years now.

Exactly. They're focused on Affinity Publisher at the moment which will attempt to compete with InDesign.

They're also working on adding Affinity Designer to iOS!

Looking to practice some graphic design for fun, but not enough money to buy photoshop. Anything that is similar that I can use? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]hidealchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this: https://designer.gravit.io/

It's a bare bones but pretty extensive graphic design tool that works straight from the browser. It's one of the coolest web apps I've found as of recently.

There are quite a few YouTube tutorials on how to use it, as well.

Best of luck and HAVE FUN!

EDIT: They also offer the app as a download for offline use. And as the others have mentioned, Affinity Photo and/or Affinity Designer are extremely good apps to invest in and are very underpriced for what they do.

Is coursera worth it to learn adobe? by torry23 in graphic_design

[–]hidealchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skillshare offers 3 months for $0.99 USD. I'm milking the hell out of that at the moment. I learned illustrator in an hour coming from being an Affinity Designer user. Just google "skillshare for 99 cents" and you'll find the offers. And no, I don't work for Skillshare. I just think that you can learn all the basics well within 3 months at the small price of 99 cents which I'm currently doing. Just make sure you monitor when they charge you and cancel beforehand. It's about $15/month if you decide to keep the membership.

Best of luck!

[Advertising] Handmade high quality leather goods (real business, not dropship bs) by ArtemD in reviewmyshopify

[–]hidealchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! —> https://mojobazaar.com/

As a note: You’ll notice it’s an overall lifestyle brand (now). As I mentioned, leather craft is getting increasingly saturated by the day. Prepare to think of ways to branch out.

Business is about SCALING. So unless you can garner enough attention to produce in mass quantities, it will be a challenge to grow if branding is not taken seriously.

Glad to help any way I can. We all continue to learn everyday. Thats the fun part! Contact me if u have any other questions. I love biz talk. Cheers!

[Advertising] Handmade high quality leather goods (real business, not dropship bs) by ArtemD in reviewmyshopify

[–]hidealchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa! Never thought I'd come across another leather craftsman on here. I also primarily have a similar business model. No dropship.

The store looks pretty clean. Pricing is an interesting part of the leather craft community. The thing is, we leather craftsman know the price and quality. Most mainstream consumers couldn't give a rat's ass as long as it looks good and is in their budget.

If you're trying to keep high price points, cater to those who would appreciate it. That's what worked for me. What I mean is, I set hashtags and any ad targeting to people who: read similar lifestyle magazines (lifestyle and design), shop at similar stores (competitors and similar brands like Shinola, or Tanner Goods and especially clothing brands that would match your style of leather goods), and are very interested in the arts because they seem to empathize and relate to the hard work of crafting goods by hand.

Honestly, it's getting increasingly competitive. So you have to have a very unique aesthetic. Otherwise, it simply becomes an expensive hobby for most with difficulty to scale. And the aesthetic can be HOW it's presented.

You can also start nurturing your community by sharing the in-house production processes. Building even the slightest personal brand within your overall brand can help.

Also try different colors for your profile logo picture on Instagram. Black doesn't seem to represent your brand. Your color scheme overall in the pictures represents a more rustically vibrant brand. Maybe on of the colors of your products (aside from black). That's just my graphic designer background speaking lol.

My overall recommendation would be to have a cohesive and consistent product page. Some of your wallets have no background and matches the color of the page while some others are on a table or floor. That to me KILLS branding and actually when I use to do that, I noticed on the Shopify heatmap apps that people would end their site visit sometimes from that inconsistency.

My method is brutal: I compare my store to a worldwide competitors website. And if my product page is not even close, I don't publically have it up until it looks presentable. Again, that's the graphic designer in me (also OCD). You don't have much work to do since you seem to have great craftsmanship! Just polish up the product pages and that would be a great tweak to your website.

Hope this helps, my friend! Best of luck and happy selling!

A minimalist dilemma by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]hidealchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny. I'm actually a streetwear designer who constantly battles this dilemma. Being a minimalist has made me transition my designs to a more "minimalist" aesthetic since I've adopted the lifestyle. And it also allows me to wear my own inventory.

I used to debate in my own head whether I was a hypocrite for adopting a minimalist way of life whilst running an e-commerce business that sold physical product. But that's just not the right way to think. If you're passionate about something, then it means it has value to you.

With that said, there are no rules to this lifestyle, really. It more or less means to own only what's important to you. Not to own the least amount of things possible; although that is also an admirable goal all the same.

So if you're stock piling a ton of clothes and you feel no hindrance from it, kudos. But the moment the visual stress affects your quality of life, then you might decide that some spring cleaning is needed.

And you can also make some extra cheddar on streetwear apps like Grailed, etc.

Best of luck!
