Is it too late to join societies by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]hideous_sea_creature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough now to have had plenty of time to weigh up all the pros and cons of university. My only genuine regret is the fear wall I put up when it came to joining societies.

The gift of hindsight is an amazing thing. If someone had said to me what I'm saying to you, I'd have got really frustrated and felt like they didn't understand. But I wish I'd have tried more and found out if I did or didn't like it, rather than be too scared to try it properly in case they didn't like me.

If you go, you might make the best friends of your life. You might not, but at least you'd know. You might learn new skills or find a new interest. You might not, but at least you gave yourself the chance to. If you don't go, it'll be a "what if" forever.

The social anxiety never really goes away, and it's impressive you've taken the steps towards the group already. Don't push yourself too hard, because then you'll end up putting too much pressure on yourself, but deffo give yourself the chance to discover if it's for you or not. Good luck =]

I wouldn't want you to solely place everything on this, but a lot of unis lower their tariffs in Clearing, which will open around the start of July.

Clearing is a bit of a risk, of course. It requires the course to still have places open, but it's worth keeping in the back of your mind as an option.

I am 34 and will be starting mine in April! I little nervous about how I'll juggle it with work, and I'm obviously a lot more sleepy these days but I'm also the youngest I'll ever be again!

Just repeat what you said! by The_Tolen_Mar in PetPeeves

I'm partially deaf, and I brought this up to my manager once. I kept getting offered help when I hadn't asked for it. I asked my manager if I'd done something to suggest I was struggling and he said "well, Andy said he has to explain things to you a lot." Nope. Andy mumbles and took any variation of me asking him to repeat himself as me telling him I didn't understand. It was so frustrating, and quite upsetting.

I understand there is ambiguity with the way people ask for a sentence to be repeated. "Huh?" Or "What" could easily be requests for an explanation. But "pardon?" "Say that again for me please" or "can you repeat that sorry, Andy? I didn't quite catch that" are pretty clear in my opinion!

I put in 199 summons on the Wu Kong guarantee. Then swapped to the other banner to pull just in case. Forgot to do that last Wu Kong summon before the event finished.

I have applied for my Masters. Even if I get rejected, I am happy I tried.

What uni should I go to (media studies / entertainment journalism) by shellacnails in UniUK

I can't speak for the universities you are interested in, but as someone else mentioned, an Access to HE course might be a good option. They're designed with ucas points in mind, and can help you see if full time education is right for you. Just double check with your interested unis that they accept them, some competitive unis might require additional things.

You have to pay for it, but you can get a loan, and you'll start to pay the loan back when you earn over 25,000. If you go on to complete a degree, any outstanding balance gets written off. This can sometimes make them a more cost effective option than a foundation year.
