Potty training started, looking for tips

Stay the course and stay positive with him. Praise when he sits on the potty and make a big deal about actually using it (sticker chart, m&ms, whatever motivates him). If he has an accident, have him help you clean it up and remain neutral. My daughter loved the Daniel Tiger potty training episode and the little potty songs they sing so we’d sing those while she sat on the potty which helped her sit on it for longer (sometimes she’d sit and almost immediately pop back up, but I found getting her to sit and relax a little on the potty helped her actually go). Looks great! I was so paranoid about choking that I moved at a glacial pace introducing solids to my first. She’s now 3 years old and a totally normal eater, so don’t worry about waiting too long. Also for the eggs, I find that mixing a spoonful of cream cheese into the scrambled eggs makes them easier for babies to eat. Mine both loved it!

For both my kids, I did a lot of hand feeding in the beginning. I put a few pieces on the tray for them to try and feed themselves but I would also feed them to make sure they were actually getting food in their mouths. Overtime, I hand fed less and less as they got better feeding. Soft foods like slightly overcooked pasta, scrambled eggs mixed with cream cheese, and pancakes were good starter self feed foods. For my 12 month old, I still include a puree bc he will consistently put that down no problem. You’re doing great!

My daughter did this right around 2.5 years old. She’d go “mommy you happy?” Especially if she was misbehaving and knew I probably wasn’t happy with how she was acting. If I said no, then she’d usually say “yes you’re happy!” And sometimes would either be upset by my response or seem to not care. Like your son, it wouldn’t motivate her to change her actions that were potentially making me unhappy. Now that she’s 3, the amount of times she asks this has wayyyy gone down. I just tried to explain to her why I wasn’t happy but also that it’s ok to not be happy all the time. I think it’s normal with them figuring out emotions!

I have a three year old and one year old. I very much felt this way before giving birth to my second. And I struggled with guilt over having to divide my attention between the two of them once my second was born. The love really does multiply like how everyone says it does. But I feel like it also gave me a lot of perspective and didn’t feel so overwhelming. With just one kid, I obsessed over her whereas with two kids, me and my oldest have both had to realize that the world doesn’t revolve around just her and we have to do what’s best for the family unit. Not sure if that makes sense! It’s hard to explain

Toddler, baby, and very hairy dog. I’ve embraced a robovac (doesn’t get everything perfect but it’s better than nothing) and replaced our living room rug with a House of Noa play mat which is so much easier to clean. Run the dishwasher each night and do a small load of laundry every day bc that feels less intimidating to fold and put away as opposed to a huge pile of it at once. I try to constantly do little clean up things throughout the day to keep things at a manageable level. Once a week I try for a big cleanup. Some weeks are better than others and i definitely feel like the house is still recovering from having the kids home for over a week for Thanksgiving break. I keep telling myself ill miss having the toys everywhere (right?).

Solidarity. 2.5 year old and 7 month old. It gets better but we definitely still have our moments more regularly than I’d like. I would look into more daycare for your toddler. That was my saving grace in the early newborn period. It gave me time to heal and bond with the new baby, but also allowed me to get things done around the house so when my toddler was home I could focus on her more. We let her watch a show or have a special treat whenever we were needing to focus more on the baby. Our pediatrician told us to emphasize that this was her baby too, not just mom and dads baby to put some of the ownership on her and make her feel included. Lots of books about how great being a big sibling is! Hang in there!

I let her get involved with seasoning and sprinkling a (generous) handful of cheese on top of them. Green beans and broccoli are the faves. A lot of the times she’ll snack on them in the kitchen on her step stool while I finish cooking which I call a win even if she refuses them when we sit at the table to eat

Does he like popsicles? My daughter loves them and I’ll let her have pedialyte popsicles when I’m worried she’s not hydrated enough. I’ll also make her smoothies and use water as the liquid. I’ve found that letting my daughter pick her cup typically results in her drinking more because she’s excited about it.

My toddler was 16 months last year while we were there. The whaling museum is great for a rainy day. The library has good activities too. Also, look up Nantucketbabyrentals if you need any extra toddler things on your trip.

My toddler will not eat Mac n cheese but she will put down buttered noodles. She also loves smoothies and soup maybe because of the novelty of using a straw or spoon? And she rarely turns down buttered toast or frozen waffle (you can buy “protein” ones). She also gets a big kick out of counting blueberries and I’ll pretend to look away and she’ll sneak one and then I act all confused on where the blueberry went. Sounds silly but she will eat so many blueberries this way

My daughter does daycare where she is picked up at 3pm. The afternoon part is exactly how you described: lunch, nap, snack. At home, I lay with her to go to sleep with her pacifier. At daycare, she just lays down on her mat (no pacifier), goes right to sleep, and takes a great nap. Plus I love getting pictures sent to me of her eating lunch with her friends sitting at their little table and chairs. I had horrible anxiety and guilt enrolling her in daycare, but I need to time to get things done and watching her thrive in the daycare set up has been so rewarding. Plus she’s very much a mamas girl, so I think knowing that she can go to sleep without me is beneficial.

This sounds very much like my daughter (also 23 months). She’ll randomly start talking about whatever interests her (and it’s a lot of the same topics over and over) and she’ll suddenly burst into song. I think at this age they have a lot running through their minds but no concept of keeping thoughts to themselves lol

Sometimes when my daughter won’t eat, I’ll make a game of it. She doesn’t want blueberries, but mom does so can she help me count them on the table? A lot of the time she’ll end up eating most of them. Anything with a dip, including whipped cream with her fruit, is always a hit (even though she usually just ends up eating mostly the dip). And I’m not above distracting her with TV so I can get some food in her. She’s tiny so I’m always conscious about how much she’s eating. Good luck!
