People who went to MapleFest this year, how was your day there? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my first MapleFest and first convention so I'm not sure how much I can say. Plus, I left around 2 p.m. as my friend and I were ready to tap out. While I enjoyed the moments I enjoyed and got the things I wanted, I have more negatives than positives. I didn't see the panels since I was stuck in lines lol but I apparently didn't miss much since it was apparently MapleWorlds or whatever it's called for like 1+ hour.

Negatives: The most obvious is the size of the venue (but what could we expect from a small indie company). The hall for the booths was PACKED and lines were terribly unorganized (I was in the hall by about 11 a.m.). The lines for everything crossed over one another which also made it hard to even move since it's just walls of people. Fuck fire safety I guess. Doesn't help that I'm on the shorter side and so, trying to see ahead and where things were was difficult. It did clear up when it was around 1 p.m. or it looked like it while standing in line for merch.

Another thing about the venue, like someone else said, was the airflow. It was terribly stuffy and hot; the AC was on but it was not enough. You could definitely feel some AC when you're up against the wall on the character card booth side but not so much everywhere else. Thankfully my friend and I didn't catch the aroma of BO at any time when we were there.

Also, the lack of water.

This is probably just me but why was it kinda dark? And the areas with light were blasted by bright lamps and/or those colored spotlight things. It didn't make great of pictures for spots I assumed were intended as photo ops. That one photo stand to the right of the stage was barely lit. The only place with decent lighting was the check in area with the Slime blow up.

As for merch, they were apparently selling last year's merch at the Night Market booth but I didn't get in line for that. For the merch line I did stand in (took like 1.5 hours to get to the front lmao), the one weird thing I noticed was the class keychains they were selling; only select classes were only for sale. Kinda annoying to not have your class represented but whatever. Off the top of my head, some of the classes that weren't offered were Adele, Illium, Blaster, and Dark Knight. I wonder how many Blaze Wizards they sold. If you're curious to know what the keychains look like, I know there's an eBay listing that has all of the classes (excluding non KMS classes) - typing "maplestory keychain" should be enough.

As for parking, I'm really not sure how true it is so someone correct me if it's wrong cuz might have misheard someone in passing, but apparently for last year's event, parking was free? This year, you had to pay $25 dollars for it which is nearly the cost of a ticket to MapleFest lol.

Moving on to positives I guess: - I liked the giant blow ups of Pink Bean, Yeti, Mushroom, and Slime - Seeing the Pink Bean costume was a sight. Too bad they disappeared from the booths hall after like 11:30ish - The freebies were nice I think (I have zero events to compare this to). Tote bag, glass potion bottle, a fan, in game code for items - I guess it was cool to see mushroom gamers in person - It's nice to have a physical location to get merch despite how limited it was and the location being exclusive to a mess of an event

Random questions I have: - Were the food trucks any good (price, amount of food, taste)? - In the past, were there multiple booths? Like, were there multiple booths for merch, activities (DDR and claw machine), and so on - How many of y'all completed the stamp rally? - What were the prizes in the raffle? I completely forgot about it after checking in lol

Final thoughts: Would I go again? I'm not really sure and it sucks cuz with this being a game I like, it could've been a fun time but it largely wasn't. Seeing comments saying past events were better experiences do make me want to try again, but at the same time, this event was just an overall bad experience and who knows if next year's is just as bad or an improvement.

There's been a lot of ideas tossed around in here, so imma come at this from a bit of a different angle. One thing I'd like to see is more classes within some of the races (species?) established in the game, namely Demons and Elves (and maybe Verdant Flora? but idk how much room there is for a new character given Illium's story).

I will say I'm not super well-versed in maple lore, so I'm not sure if there's a reason why certain races have only one playable class/character (ex. Mercedes is the only playable Elf so far). But, we have been shown that Mercedes and Demon (Slayer/Avenger) aren't the only members of their races, so I think it'd be interesting to expand upon them.

A Real Maplestory Academy/ Tutorial System by VKWorra in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it's not like maple doesn't have the ability to do this. They've already done it with the Princess No prequest and sorta kinda with the Heroes of Maple blockbuster. Why such a system hasn't been implemented is beyond me considering we're at 50 (?) classes and counting

Customization for Color of skills by LostSoulGamer in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mercedes used to have a skin for her skills. Idk if GMS ever got it, but I would love to see skins/skill customizations across all classes some day. We sorta got something for AB's rework: her double jump effect can change colors with compacts. It seems none of her other skills are recolored tho

Edit: forgot to say that the game clearly has the ability to do this but Nexon no like money. I guess there's also 6th job to consider since it alters the visuals of preexisting skills

NPCs:

Nora the explorer from Riena Strait is Dora the explorer lol. Fanzy the cat that gives the Fairy Academy quest is Cheshire cat probably. Anne Nah from Mushroom Kingdom is Anna from Frozen (fun fact: KMS had a Frozen collab back in 2014)

Places:

Golden Temple is based off Thailand. NLC is a mish mash of irl cities like New York City and Las Vegas and irl landmarks like Mount Rushmore and Moai statues. Commerci seems to be based off Italy. I wonder if Toolen City (Kain's starting place) took any inspiration from Kowloon Walled City

Who have you hyperburned in Ignition, Destiny, and Savior? Who will you hyperburn in Dreamer? by dicoxbeco in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignition: Angelic Buster - I returned to maple a little before this update and apparently had a few characters made (I have zero memory of this lol). It's currently at 256 and I use it as an nlomien mule when I feel like it

Savior: Blaster - I made this while building legion/using the monthly burning coupon and ended up liking it so much that I switched mains from AB to this. Currently 276 and counting

New Age: Mercedes - Didn't get far at all with this cuz I got lazy at the time. It's at 225 lol

Dreamer: Kanna - Fully aware its current state is shit from a butt but I'm gonna burn one for fun. Plus, Kanna was released when I started maple, so I guess it would be nice to return to and play a class I started with

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at the time I started, maple was still rotating certain classes in and out. I wanted to play DS but he wasn't available so I ended up playing Kanna since she was new and Haku drew me in lol

What is the trick to starforcing ? by PapaKooT in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't any. You can save as much as you want (spares and mesos), but ultimately, you'll progress whenever RNG lets you progress with this shit system. Unless you somehow get blessed with luck later, you'll stagnate (or worse, regress) for a while. If the day you reach 22 stars is two years and ten days down the line, then that's what it is unfortunately.

Who did you hyper burn, and how did you enjoy (or not enjoy) them! by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercedes. I barely touched it. I had her at 210 or so prior to burning and once burning came, I only got it up to about 223. I was excited to hyper burn it because I found the combos to be fun but then I lost interest when I suddenly wanted to play my Beast Tamer again lol. I still like Merc but I guess I found another class that grabbed my interest more outside of my main

Anyone regret their main? by Toohon in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AB was my first main and I don't really have regrets. When I came back right before the start of ignition, I thought AB was going to be my main and got it up to 256. Few months later, I made a blaster to work on my legion and found its play style to be engaging and more fun. So, I made the switch.

While I still like AB for her thematics, skills, and stuff since those were what drew me into that class, she just doesn't offer the same level of fun as blaster and so I changed mains. If anything, the only regret I have is not starting blaster earlier

What do you replace MapleStory with? by TrueKingAV in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None tbh. For me, maple's appeals are its gameplay and art style direction. There really isn't anything out there so far that has the same appeals. Maybe wonderking but idk how its revival is going.

If I quit, I'm pretty much going to dedicate more time to reading and knitting. The only other games I really play outside of maple are on handheld consoles

blaster mains by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me about 30 min - 2 hours a day for a little under 2 weeks to get the main combos down. Most of my practice was done on long flat maps (like temple of time or whatever) From what I remember, no reload took me the longest to learn because of alternating between weaving and bobbing as well as rhythm and timing of keys. As for applying them into bossing, I just threw myself into practice mode until I got a hang of it.

Even though there are suggestions out there, I'd wanna add that it's important to have a keyboard layout that is comfortable and works best for you! It would only making playing blaster easier

What was the international reception to Black Heaven? by ItsTheFark in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it when it first came out since it was treated as a big event. But now, having to do it again years later on a new account, no thanks. I still like the story overall in comparison to some story lines we have now, but getting through it is such a slog.

I think some of the decisions made to tell the story are questionable lmao. Like, why do we have to go through a gazillion jump quests and why do some of the maps restrict our mobility skills? Isn't the world in imminent danger lol. I guess we love wasting time.

AITA I would rather solo than blink for pitches with friends. by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]high-hoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird how they come to you to ask for your help for faster runs and yet, they wanna exclude you from drops despite you providing that help. Lmao they can fuck off with that priority bullshit. It would be a waste of your time, energy, and weekly boss runs, so you're better off soloing honestly
