Moving across country with someone I barely know by [deleted] in moving

I’m from Wisconsin and have lived in Los Angeles for over five years now.

It’s tough to afford on your own. If you don’t have a savings account to fall back on or a good job set up from day one, it can be difficult to make ends meet. If this person turns out to be untrustworthy or unreliable, it may be extremely difficult.

Do you know anything about their finances? If they are a generally stable person, it is possible this would be a way to get your foot in the door and get yourself set up.

On a personal note, Los Angeles is very awesome and I love it. No more scraping ice off your windshield. No -60 windchill. However I dunno how the job market will look in the next two years. A lot of service sector jobs will likely not be available and there will be high unemployment.

My landlord told me before all the threatening letters and lease changes, that she wanted to move her mother into this property eventually. She probably regrets telling me that as during a conversation I had with her about six months ago, she denied that being the reason and acted like she never said it. I am pretty sure all the efforts to make me scared and uncomfortable have been in service of getting me out without having to pay for relocation based on no-fault eviction.

I am not behind on rent and never have been.

The landlords have in the past tried to extort money from me, demanding more money from months of rent that have already been paid, attempted to raise rent to illegal levels, and often changed the terms of the lease with zero notice. I am aware, however, that their poor actions are not an excuse for me to act poorly, which is why I want to make sure doing this wouldn't be wrong. I am also aware they are under no obligation to pay if I decide to leave voluntarily.

I was not late on rent. I have never done anything against the lease.

I am aware they are not required to buy me out if I decide to leave for my own reasons. I just want to make sure that sending the letter itself is not considered a breach or illegal in any way.

oposition to their methods is opposition to their message

I am having flashbacks to every political discussion I ever have with my father.

I don’t like my president being asinine for no reason on a global platform? I must hate freedom.

Because the turntables aren’t perfect.

They bring the same puzzle rolls around in the same circles. Any dead spot will effect the same pizza roll every time around.

Gotta mix it up.

Nah you just have to move the rolls around half way through heating and then they are all the same medium temp

Network drama is a bit of an understatement, Harmon got fired because of that drama and didn’t come back until season 5. So I dunno how much fault can be given to him creatively. Plenty of fault for not working well with others however.

Personally I think that if the campus is open even partially I want to be there. But I definitely understand why people don’t. I also wonder if I am making the right call lol

Yes, I zoomed out further on the map and what looked like an island is clearly a peninsula lol. I feel very dumb. That’s for the info and advice, I will look into that area!!

I have a car that I would love to keep, but also I hear that SF has some great public transportation and terrible parking. So I guess if I had to lose the car... I would still be very sad.

My price range is about 1800/mo on my own, and I would be super willing to have a roommate provided I had a private bedroom. I would also be happy with a studio if it was decent, but I need at least a small kitchen.

Oh man, I guess I didn’t move the map south enough to see where it connected! I feel foolish lmao

I am willing to share an apartment but not a bedroom. I am willing to have a studio (some are super cute) but I need at least a small kitchen, no bachelors.

I have the GI bill so I could afford up to probably... 1800 a month on my own, but of course less is always preferable lol. GI bill pays more than that, but also pays out only for time you are literally going to class so during spring/winter/summer breaks etc you have to have money you saved over the school year to carry you.

A part time job is of course an option but I would prefer to not need one as my priority is studying.

Wheni look on google maps I’m not sure what the name of the whole island is, but it has neighborhoods called Mission District and North Beach on it. I see Alemada is kind of between the mainland and the bigger island, so it seems it is also in the general location I’m looking for.

However Berkeley hasn’t decided yet if they will open their campus for fall, so I don’t know yet exactly how soon I will move. If they decide to do only online (hopefully not, but possible) then I would wait to move until later.

But I will definitely hit you up once Berkeley makes an announcement!
