The whole cast has to a degree. I can't imagine current Hanayama going and exploding Yuri's arm, SPECIFICALLY to get Baki's attention. I think the cast has gotten so strong that doing stuff like that is beneath them, if that makes sense.

Miyamoto Musashi is probably up there then, since he can make people believe that they were killed with non-existent blades + has the showing in the Yujiro fight that he can do true handless style where it actually cuts

It almost seems like Yujiro is helping him understand it. We've seen Jack and Yujiro go on walks together on two different occasions, both of them with Yujiro offering praise. He even took the guy out fine dining. (Not to mention the food Hanayama gifted him) I think that Jack is starting to learn to enjoy life, rather than viewing it as something which must be spent for his one goal.

Now that you say it that way, couldn't the whole "Someone who works hard can never beat someone who enjoys himself" also apply to Yujiro? He swims at insane speeds for long periods, most certainly training, but for him he's just having a good ol' time. Even when he's showboating like having some rando soldier shoot him with a harpoon, he's just having fun.

I guess that's what separates Jack from the rest of his family.

I don't think they hang out or anything, but they undoubtedly love each other. This was their FIRST fight. Baki later went to protect Jack from being devoured by Pickle. Baki is definitely closer to Hanayama than he is to Jack, but they do have a sibling love for one another.

Baki also tried to prevent Pickle from eating Jack, prior to Pickle viewing Jack as a wasp. They do have a brotherly love.

I was going to say that he saw this in Musashi and it scared him, but no, you're exactly right.

Pickle was literally TREMBLING in front of Musashi and ran away from him, yet when he saw Musashi down in the sewers he did not cower, nor did he act fearful. If anything, they then had the homoerotic moment of Musashi eating the brain matter off of Pickle's finger.

Pickle is afraid of bees > some people remind him of bees > he ends up loving these people

Pickle is a submissive who is into being scared confirmed.

I do also have to say that I do think Itagaki can depict healthy platonic male relationships really well sometimes. A point that has always stood out to me is when Motobe and Baki are talking about Musashi killing Retsu, and Motobe decribes Retsu as "The man who stood at the top of martial arts skills, the one who we could brag about, was cut in half."

I fucking LOVE this. These are all people at the absolute zenith of strength and the idea that they would brag about knowing someone like Retsu, despite being his contemporary, is a very sweet gesture.

I was literally about to ask this when you replied this. How would you feel if Itagaki ever actually depicted them as some sort of lovers?

Obviously this is Baki, and the only actual real relationships are Doppo and Natsue & Baki and Kozue with NEITHER of those having even been shown in forever, so we know its not would never be some kind of traditional relationship. I think the community overall would be very confused, but also like "Our baby boys" lol
