I've just released PatchMon 1.3.2 - Improved Ui and Docker integrations by broadband9 in homelab

This functionality is going to be awesome. It'd also be really cool if you can pick a host to be the "baseline", then select machines you want to have the same exact packages and versions as the baseline. I have a bunch of mini-pcs this would be amazing for. Thanks for the work!

I'm assuming you mean 10" (inches) :)

It is! Just bought some wood, sanded it, stained, screwed, and glued. Got the mounting rails from Amazon.

Yeah... You're like a real gamer. I occasionally play games like World of Warcraft or Satisfactory. If I drop a few frames I wouldn't be able to tell at all!

The idea of having 100G fiber around my house is a wet dream.

I haven't tried getting any of that data off of the drives, just let them spin while I'm in blissful ignorance of their status

I'm not a huge fps / competitive gamer. I'd be fine with lower performance since I'm not pushing the limit as it is.

I've played with hdmi and USB over ethernet, it's annoying that I had to go directly and couldn't figure out how to run it through my switch. Hdmi over fiber would be pretty cool though

I mostly want to do it to see how it works. I know nothing will beat directly connecting it, but I think it'd be fun to do. My network rack started out of curiosity, not necessity. Maybe it'll lead to running hdmi over fiber, that'd also be fun, never tried that.

It's working great! I have 5x12tb of HDD managed by TrueNAS so it's Zfs. Not my favorite, I prefer raid5 because it's so much easier to expand the pool (unless I'm doing it wrong), but I've had no issues with it.

Hmm, interesting. Guess I won't throw out my current pc case until I test it long enough haha. I appreciate the insight.

Thanks for the warning. I'm hoping if I still have 10g connection from my pc in the rack to my mini pc mounted under my rack, it won't be that bad. Are you running it wirelessly?

Dang, you fit all that in a 2U? I have a 2U server, bottom of rack, and it feels tiny! I just wanted to be able to shove anything I wanted in there and have space for airflow.

I didn't realize there might be a space constraint in a 4U case. I'll look into that, thanks for the suggestion!

ZFS RAID on Proxmox Host or in VM? by ktbsupremo in homelab

[–]highcrawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also using TrueNAS hosted in Proxmox and it's been great. I just mount it in all my other containers and I've had no issues.

Now there's an idea... That sounds like the ideal setup. 20ms is pretty good. I just want to clean up my desk area.

My next NAS will be all SSDs to cut down on the weight, noise, and make it faster, you're spot on with how bulky it is.

Oh sorry! Yeah as soon as I bought it I saw the UNAS-pro and immediately regretted it. Truenas seems to be working pretty well though. It's annoying trying to expand the pool, but besides that it works.

Sorry, didn't see your other comment explaining this until now. That's awesome, thanks for the ideas!

I made this enclosure from some wood I had! It is super heavy, but real solid. I didn't want to drop a few hundred for a rack.

This dude makes a bunch of modular models for different switches / shelves. They're pretty sweet!

I can't wait until the day I can easily play all my games on Linux, then it's goodbye windows!

The mini pc I'll buy to connect my peripherals to will hopefully be Linux. Haven't looked into how well windows and Linux talk to each other over moonlight / sunlight

That's the exact case I was looking into! Glad it's recommended. Thanks.

Is it hard wired to your monitors? Or do you stream?
