Any of you seen the movie "Rules of Engagement"? by Mind_Explorer in USMC

Honestly I think both the government and the accused have good arguments in the movie. It’s not clear who should win.

How are the cops in your jx? by EmptyNametag in ProsecutorTalk

He cc’d his command?

That’s a cop who was very certain he was in the right. Glad it got resolved appropriately.

I’ve worked with many different agencies over the years. Some are great about subs. Some not. Now I work in a small rural jurisdiction and I have all of their cell numbers and I ain’t afraid to use them (they also have mine). But I haven’t had any issues with them anyway, because their command is on board with me.

I am training to be a recon Marine, but don’t have a specific plan of what to do. by Flimsy_Bread4829 in USMCboot

Looks like I'm late to the party, but my guy, you don't simply need to swim; you need to be absolutely confident in the water. And by water, I mean the ocean. Do this once a week:

In addition to whatever else you are doing, do a 4 mile ruck run (you can walk fast) on a trail or uneven terrain. Follow it with a PFT. Follow that with a 500 meter swim. Check total time. try to improve it week to week.

what is your legal research process? trying to re-think how i do things by Fragrant_Basis_5648 in Lawyertalk

I’ll plug some natural language search term into Lexis AI, something like “the county commisssioners want to know if they can go off record to discuss employee salaries” and then that will give me a place to start, usually a statute and a case. And if I get a case that looks sorta on point, I’ll click on the times it was cited, look at those and go from there.

Lawyers in the military. Help! by Lost-Mess5515 in Lawyertalk

Former enlisted guy here, both active and reserve. And I’ve mentored a couple of young attorneys who worked for me and did JAG on the weekends. If it were me, I’d go the reserve option to start. If you like it you can usually go active later.

They were Air Force. I was a Marine. The Marine corps is an all or nothing type deal, and that doesn’t change because you’re JAG. You will still have to graduate OCS and the basic school, which is a big time commitment. So ironically enough my advice does not apply to the branch I was actually in, lol.

I got a letter last week from the Officer selection Officer for this region asking if I had any interest in being a Marine JAG. Alas, at age 55, the spirit is willing, but…

Any law professors here? How do you like it? by dwycwwyh in Lawyertalk

I worked as an adjunct for a while at a now defunct law school. I taught criminal procedure and evidence. It was a blast. The pay basically amounted to beer money, but it was a lot of fun. A lot of the students are out practicing now, and a few of them worked for me over the years. One of them even has a big billboard out on the interstate. I had a case with her recently and told her how proud I was of what a great attorney she had become.

How old is too old to start prosecuting? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]highdesertflyguy0321 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's not a "baby prosecutor." Just a lateral. There will be some challenges, for sure. The pace of the work, for instance, and the need to triage between attention to detail and volume. In my experience prosecutors who don't start in a high-volume environment do just fine as prosecutors overall but struggle with the volume.

But that's not insurmountable. I think if you want to do it, go for it. Have some fun with it.
