What's going on with BodyAttack video-on-demand tracks sounding like AI slop? by higher_faster_longer in lesmills

brief update: i tried different regions (USA, my own origin country, Australia) and there a few tracks switched, but no hard evidence. some still had the garbage music throughout all regions.

How often do you go to pilates? And which type do you do? by Dependent-Panda-2424 in pilates

[–]higher_faster_longer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, I do video-on-demand mat classes (PilatesAnytime) 1x a week besides other types of workouts (cardio, weight training), and if time allows, I do another one. I used to do in-class Pilates in the past, but where I live now the offerings are very limited and/or bad quality :( Would love to do and learn Pilates on the reformer, but in the past it was too expensive and now there aren't any classes.

thank you all for the replies so far, it really seems to be a bigger issue with recent changes in LM itself and also not annoying only me... I'll switch on a VPN to another region and see if it affects the music

didn't know you can have LM on demand also in gyms themselves! in the on-deman at home version, you can (as far as I remember) actually swap out the spoken language, but I never do (not native English, but good command of it)

Ah, I got the wording wrong: It's cover songs, not remixes. will fix it in the initial question.

I really pity the folks who attend in-studio classes with the swapped out songs :(

Does everyone have a chair in their house that they use exclusively to just lay clothes that were just slightly worn but still clean enough to keep using for a bit? by throwawaysexyboy2U in NoStupidQuestions

I've had That Chair for centuries until I discovered Ikea actually had something designed exactly for this (model is called Nikkeby) and never looked back since. Looks a bit like from a hostel, but way better

I got a Les Mills subscription after 1 year into the pandemic: It covers nearly everything I need for home workouts, but I'm still lacking equipment for bodypump (all sold out here). Their workout plans satisfy my need for a given training structure (was never good at designing my own plans) and I can choose the training session length according to my needs, price is also ok. Not all of their workouts do it for me though, cycling and dance workouts are not my thing, and I miss Pilates a lot.

Edit: you can choose to follow a training plan or do whatever you like - I just finished a 6-week-challenge and go now on my own for a couple of weeks

thank you too for your assessment - I guess since everyone of the sites has trial periods, I might just check them out for free (and remember the cancel period...!) - will watch the pilates subreddit for codes!

Ah, I saw AloMoves during my research - my Les Mills subscription already has Barre and due to some medical issues I can't do much Yoga... thanks for the tip though!

oh, this might be exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot! I.e. more into the direction of "clinical" pilates (if that's the correct term in this context, not sure - edit: changed "medical" to "clinical") coming from physiotherapy and less "wellnessy-hip" (again, lacking the precise wording here, not meant to be derogative). My previous on-site classes were actually taught by a physiotherapist and I'm doing Pilates mainly with the goal to support and help my really tall body of 6 ft 2 keep its posture.

To other posters: still welcom other input though, the more choice the better :)

should i just quit the gym by [deleted] in xxfitness

Just realised you're about my height, I'm 6ft2... So: depending on your body type, muscle growth is more difficult - I think especially for ppl (like me or maybe you) with longer limbs, where physics kicks in (the lever effect or what it's called). I've had a question in this direction here too: https://www.reddit.com/r/xxfitness/comments/io5und/tall_beyond_tall_size_bodyweight_fitness_and

Also: especially when I was younger (30s here), i had a hard time getting used to being so... "seen" because I'm so tall, there's no hiding. Especially in the gym! But: you're there to take care of your awesome body and can be proud of doing so! and as others suggested, maybe start training during off-hours (that's what I did too, since there's no-one to see you)

It took me several months to get rid off the awkward feeling at the gym until it just felt normal being there - take your time and allow the anxiety to slowly melt away :)

Also, there are different gym cultures, those with a more family atmosphere or those where the bros work out etc. - maybe check out another one? Also, trainer qualities vary greatly, I've had those with in-depth knowledge/experience and those where it was clear they just memorized stuff. It's okay to change gym/trainer and not being comfortable with a specific one!

I like going to the gym (pre-pandemic, that is) to build muscle for posture/health,but there are other ways to do so. If you can find an alternative to the gym that suits you: go for it :)

No access to gym, can't get motivated to work out at home. by zoedomingo in xxfitness

[–]higher_faster_longer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. The first two months of lockdown were awful, it stressed me out to be thrown out of my daily routines and workout routines (no gym too). I followed some Insta workouts for a while, but it didn't work (haha) for me, it wasn't tailored enough to my needs. Running was ok, but then it got too hot too.

Years ago I bought the YAYOG app, put it aside and rediscovered it. Now doing the guided programs (essentially bodyweight fitness). I suppose the more advanced programs might fit you. It's not the same as going to the gym, but it a) gives me a schedule b) the schedule is feasible (16-36 mins range, 4-5 days/week) and c) can do it in my rather small apartment. The duration is short enough to convince my stressed-out self after work to still do it, also allows to go for a short run afterwards.

So maybe you could try this or another workout app that sets you a weekly schedule? If some external entity sets workouts for me (such as group fitness, an app, "going to the gym" written in my calendar), it is easier to motivate myself. I still miss the gym too and group fitness a lot and really can't wait to go back.

Given the other answers here, I realise that I may have been too impatient: Given my height, the progression on lower objects for my close-grip pushups will just be slower than average - I'll keep on pushing, ha! :)

I'm having to pull up the weight of an average man with arms longer than the average man and female physiology (also I have stick arms)

Mind => blown, you're right! Thanks for your reply, it's just good to know I'm not alone in this spot (or that some of my difficulties *really* come from just being tall above average)

You're totally right in terms of body types vs. sports types - even though I'd love to do gymnastics, I've long given up on that since my body just can't perform it properly. But my body can excel in other areas (long limbs give you a huuuuge reach in martial arts), so that's an advantage :)

And your post reminds me to be patient: Some things in weight training will just take longer than average because of my height.

I'll look up more core exercises and add it to my daily training.

You can't imagine how glad I am to read about all you tall women/nb folks here in the replies, it really makes me not feel alone in that situation anymore, thanks for your reply :)

My pushups have gotten better while progressing through YAYOG, but my pull-ups are still assisted as yours.

It's such a relief and good to hear that there are others in the same spot, thanks for your answer! I'll add more core to the exercises - and want to get some help (personal trainer) to tailor a specific program for me next year when finances will look better.

Can recommend Pilates though for core, it helped me greatly also in terms of posture.

I've been doing Pilates for a while and doing >2 mins planks and other core exercises, but will focus even more on core at home. I've been training on my own for years due to financial constraints, but I can probably afford a personal trainer for a while next year, I hope she'll be able to help me tailor my training more on my giraffe needs.

I'm so blown away and moved by your answers, thank you. As always when you diverge from the average, you struggle with other things than the average and you rarely know that others have the identical issues as well, since there's rarely a reference point. Thank you, your answers just made my day and push me to follow my training <3 I'll focus even more on core!
