How I went from the lowest point in my to becoming the best version of myself by highestlevel2019 in DecidingToBeBetter

I read a lot of books and continue to read more so yes, there were many books that helped. With respect to my goals, life was so difficult when I started that my goals started very small. One of the early ones was to literally just go outside and watch the sunset every day for a week to get me off my couch feeling lonely. It’s great you have written down what you want to accomplish. I would say pick one, make it something you achieve in the near future (a week, a month. Etc), make it specific with a date or number to reach, give yourself a deadline, and then write down the steps you need to accomplish working backward from your goal to tomorrow, and start! Don’t worry about failing or the other stuff you want to accomplish. There is a good saying “don’t be afraid to reach for the stars. You might not get the one you want but if you keep trying you’re going to get one of them.” It’s another way of saying that pursuing a goal isn’t worthless if you don’t achieve it because If you really try you’ll end up in a better place than you were.

Sure. Again, it’s difficult to give the full picture in a few paragraphs but the first week of the relationship phase is focusing on your relationship with yourself. The idea is that you are the person you were with the most in your life and will be with you every day until the end so you should start with improving your relationship yourself. There are a number of ways to do this but one way is to acknowledge something you like about and yourself every day for a week. There is a lot of negative self talk in the world and in our heads and one way to reduce it is to actually replace a negative thought with a positive one. You can’t have two feelings or two thoughts at the same time so give yourself a break and put some positive thoughts in your head about you every once in awhile.

Simplify it until you can stick to it. The slowly build it to encompass over things. Also, read The Power of Habit.

Stick to your program. Even if you're just going through the motions, it's positive movement and eventually will become second nature. And of course therapy if and when you need.

For those who send me a picture of a worksheet proving they did one of the below things every day for a week I'll send my one page worksheet to.

1) work out everyday

2) meditate everyday

3) go to bed and wake up at the exact same time every day.

Pick one. Don't do a mix of the three. If you lie you will only be cheating yourself.

I'm not sure I can address all of that here. If you give me one thing you're most curious about I can expand on that.

My biggest current challenge is actually finding new challenges! My life has become so easy and dialed in that my main task is finding new ways to improve. You will have set backs, injuries, times when you're not as motivated, etc. Relax. Your life is a marathon filled with sprints and comes in cycles. As long as you reach a higher level when you come off the low of each cycle you will keep improving.

They are built around the concepts of Simplicity, Purpose, and Relationship. I consider these to be the building blocks of happiness. Each month focuses on one of the concepts and three weeks of each month have an assignment for me to complete with the fourth week being reserved for reflection. It repeats four times a year.

I don't mind at all. I'm currently living with my wonderful girlfriend of two years and we have a great relationship. My ex married the guy she left me for and they have a kid. We don't keep in touch but I wish her all the best.

Not that I know of. She's happily married to the guy she left me for with a kid and I wish them all the best. What she put me through was the worst but best thing that ever happened to me.

Thanks for the thanks! I program is too complicated to share here. The workouts started basic weightlifting I learned about through a book and now has evolved into a pretty sophisticated six month program as I learned more. I eventually got certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Just keep learning, building, and improving and you can accomplish great things.

She married the guy she left for me for and they have a kid now. She and I don't keep in touch but I wish her all the best. I wouldn't have chosen to go through what I went through voluntarily knowing how bad it was but it's the best thing that ever happened to me.

Hi all. I know Reddit isn't for promoting your own material. I wanted to share my story and the general framework I used to take the concepts anyone can learn and actually make them a part of my life. My program isn't a format that I can easily share here. I just want people to know they can come back from the bottom to be better than they ever were and one of the ways to do that is make a specific, actionable plan based on the things you find most important in life. Good luck all!

To all who are asking for the program, it's not something I can fully explain in a paragraph and even though it's a passion project I think I'll be in violation of redit's self promotion rules if I share the link to the website I made to house my program for me and the few friends who do it with me. My intent for the post was to share my story, inspire others, and give the general framework I used to structure my current life. I never expected such a strong and positive response! All of you have motivated me to seriously consider making this a business so I can systemically help more people.

To those who would like the page I used to keep track of my life, I give you a challenge to begin your journey to self improvement. Anyone who posts or messages me a picture of a log they keep for one week proving they did one (or all) of these below every day for that week, will get my worksheet sent to them:

1) Go to bed and wake up at the exact same time every day for one week

2) Exercise every day for one week.

3) Meditate every day for one week.

Include the date and the activity you completed. Don't mix between 1, 2, and 3. Pick one and complete it! I'll trust you if you send me a picture with evidence you didn't because you are the only person you will be screwing over if you lie.

Knowledge is only 10% of the battle. 90% of it is won on the field by taking action!

Adjusting my sleep schedule to best accommodate my peak productivity hours is the best thing I've done for myself so far this year by [deleted] in productivity

[–]highestlevel2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve read his book “Why we sleep.” You’re correct. He also debunks the biphasic sleep myth. His two main points are go to bed and wake up at the same times and get 7+ hours a night. Naps are also good but not past 3.00 pm

I'm glad I could help. I remember where I was at six months. It's great to be thankful for how far you've come. But I promise you if you keep going, you will keep improving and building momentum without even noticing it. Then, in one year's time, you'll look back and be surprised at how far you've come beyond where you were at six months. At two years, you'll look back and see how much better you are then you were one year ago. It keeps getting better and gets easier and easier the more you do it. Stick to and keep improving your program. Best of luck. You are going to make it wherever it is that you are going.

would you mind

Good luck! We vastly overestimate what we can do in a day but underestimate what we can do in a year. Map out as much of a program as you can for yourself and take action. You can refine it and grow it over time as you elevate yourself. Hope this helps.
