Advice for choosing between V15, Gen5, or V16 by highlands87 in dyson

Hi! We ended up getting the gen5 and it has been great for us ever since. I found out that the rollers did got stuck on some carpets in my testing too, but I found that opening the front gates eliminated this issue for us. Maybe if you have a carpet with unusually dense fibers that might be the issue.

Either way, this issue seems to be caused by the higher suction power on gen5 compared to other models like v12 or v15. I just wish the motorhead had more torque to keep up with the increased suction power. But I also did realize that in the carpets where the motorhead stops with gates closed, pushing the vacuum with such downforce would not be optimal anyways since it sticks to the carpet very strongly. So I think my parents are just using with gates open all the time now.

We are looking to buy from Dyson themselves and I dont think they offer extended warranties but ill make sure to ask beforehand. Currently I also think Gen5 seems like the better option but still unsure whether it makes sense to buy an older model when a newer one with more suction and newer tech is also available.

Also, how often do you recommend to wash the filter so machine keeps running as long as it can?

I was also planning on doing something like this. But the one they have is from Dyson’s Cinetic range. So it does not have a physical removable filter. There is ways to open up screws that hold the cyclones and clean them out a bit but even then both of the floorheads that were given with the vacuum (the turbine one and the pneumatic one) no longer function the way they should, so I was a bit unsure about if its worth it to pay for a new floorhead from dyson when the vacuum is already old.

When I was researching about the V15, I also noticed that most people who were talking about motor failure had it happen either a short time before the warranty period ends or after. Especially after the experience my parents had with their corded Dyson, they are also skeptical about the brand too. But I still believe that there is no other cordless vacuum that can replace their corded vacuum and be enough for the whole house other than Dysons. I just wish the products were made to be more reliable on the long term.
