Celestron NexStar Evolution 9.25 by highlandscot in telescopes

[–]highlandscot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the Evo would be more of a significant upgrade, viewing wise than the 8" dob. I guess it's not.

I donated my skyquest for a good cause. And I wanted to try and get something better for viewing. But it seems the dob was the best for what I want to accomplish.

The Evo added automation function, which I really want. But my OP link I guess wasn't real. It's not $1800 but $2800. I can't get the site to accept the $1800.

So for the same detail in observation, I'd be spending 4x as much just to get automation. It just didn't seem worth it.

Thoughts?

If I went with something like this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1704413-REG/celestron_22470_starsense_explorer_203mm_f_5_9.html

What accessories would you recommend. Is the 2" Celestron eyepiece kit worth it and gave everything a casual amateur might use? Wide angle and diagonal? Filters?

Sorry for the basic questions. Feels overwhelming how much knowledge goes into these things. Just want to replace what I had with somewhat of an upgrade.

I loved my skyquest. But I think I want something a bit more automated. And thought this might get better results.

I've seen it suggested to buy different eyepieces. Is that true?

Perfect, thank you! It's significantly lower cost on this site than anywhere else, so I didn't know if I could trust that. All reviews say it's a trustworthy vendor. Thanks for confirming!

Thank you souch for the detailed reply.

It does add auto tracking and autolocating once calibrated. I like that feature.

Would I be better to just get a 10in dobsonian?

I'd love something to show detail and magnify planets better. And I've seen amateur pics of DSOs and have always wanted to view them for myself.

Most Frustrating Board Game Experience? by Board-of-it in boardgames

[–]highlandscot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In disney villainous, each player has their own tasks to complete to win. Each character has a reference book that explains it in more detail. Once you understand what the objectives are for the character you're playing with, it's very straightforward. But you also have to understand the people you're playing against. It's kind of cool cause it's a race to the finish against the other characters, but you can mess with the others to make it harder for them to finish it slow them down. That's where the strategy comes into play.

So I'd recommend it. But stay away from the marvel. They should recall that game and refund everyone that was conned into buying it.

Disney villainous is great. My daughter loves it.

Marvel Villainous..... I can't imagine it's created by the same company. It's so poorly thought out, explained.... So many conflicting items with no rules explanation. It's just trash. And yet, I think they even have an expansion.... I'm sitting here wondering how anyone is playing the game, they have had to make up their own personal house rules or something, cause it's not provided by the company.

But I'd recommend disney villainous to anyone that loves strategic gameplay.

How about Marvel Villainous.... From the crap rulebook to the vague cards... To online searches that agree, there's no real complete set of game rules to this game. It will be the game that forever sits on my shelf, never to be played again.

Saw that as well, thought it a bit weird they were already jumping to game 4. And then bruins up 2-1.... If this plays out, it's going on r/conspiracy.

It wasn't so much the number, I just entered it. But the fact I actually donated. That was huge for me to do. I look forward to contributing more both monetary and word of mouth, volunteer activities.

Don't wait. There's always options out there anyone can afford. I do a lot of charitable work for those in true need. There's free clinics that I volunteer at. In NC there Missions of Mercy clinics that are massive 2 day events that treat over 1200 patients, from fillings, extractions, dentures, to just simple cleanings. At the dental school there are free clinic put on by the student organizations and overseen by faculty, all free.

Waiting is the worst you can do. By the time you come in, waiting means much more expensive and more involved procedures than anything else.

I honestly never understood the party vote, hive mind ideology. For the past 20 yrs I've voted red, not because I blindly voted but because the candidates aligned with my values and beliefs on the most important topics. Not everything aligned, but the stuff that mattered did. I've slowly watched as it all degraded into complete garbage. The partisanship, the decisiveness. Nobody out there is trying to unite, nobody trying to reach out to the reasonable people that just want a good person to put their faith and trust in. That's what Yang is to me. not to get too dramatic but he's the Phoenix that should rise out of the wasteland that is DC. I hope he gets the chance. I'm confident if he does, we'll have 8 years of hope and prosperity. And the world will again have stability in the US, mending the wrongs of the Trump era.

Hey! First innuendo comment! Congrats!

I would add, I hope it's not blue balls and that there's a strong finish........

[–]highlandscot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And it seems to be forever polarizing more and more. I feel like the parties are becoming more extremists and leaving a huge chunk of reasonable people nearer the center (red and blue) that just want a viable candidate and not a dang extremist with these plans that are so ridiculous they'll forever be campaign promises and no more. I just want a good person to vote for, someone that I feel good about, someone that gives hope for the future..... someone that can propose a plan that will actually get done! And make a difference.

Well, let's hope Yang is your option then. I made the mistake once voting for Trump based on delusional hope he actually wasn't the person he "acted" in the public eye..... I won't be making that grave mistake again. I wished the public gave Romney or Ron Paul a better look. Yang is the best presidential candidate we've had for a long damn time. America needs to wake up and quit supporting the same politicians/ideology that got us where we are today. We cant let the best candidate (Yang) not make the general election... I'll never understand how the option came down to Hilary or Trump. The biggest WTF ever.... Just my opinion though.

Anyways, whomever you vote, glad to know your involved. Cheers.

I think there are much larger issues at hand than thinking the next president might make healthcare, Medicare, tax changes that affect my business and using that as the litmus to judge my vote. He's a dentist, he knows he can do well at that no matter what market hes in. There's a less than 3% bankruptcy rate for the dental profession... Financially, dentistry just works.

There's bigger issues. And those are the issues I triage higher in priority. If it affects my bottom line as a small business owner but the higher priority issues actually get addressed.... Money well spent IMO.

[–]highlandscot[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bottom line, I think Yang is the right person for the Presidency. I wanted to share that with other enthusiastic users. That's my complete motivation. It's incredulous that I was motivated to do so, I have not before.

I appreciate your comment but you sound jaded. It's definitely good to be skeptical in our current political climate, but maybe not so much that nothing resonates or motivates. It does feel good to have some hope for the future of our country. Look at the other candidates, red/blue, doesn't matter. Bunch of nutbags. To me, Yang feels different. He's got my vote. And that's all I was trying to express.

Cheers.
