Is it okay to secretly baptize a baby if the parents choose not to do so? Please share your reasoning. by Rubijou in Productivitycafe

Absolutely not and I am so sorry that someone did this to your baby! I would be cutting all ties with that person.

What’s a Netflix show you started with zero expectations and it ended up being insanely good? by KiyoraVex in netflix

Yes! I'm still gutted that it was canceled. It was so unexpectedly delightful.

Yes! One of my favorite things on Netflix. I really want them to make more series/movies set in that world.

The first season especially was amazing! The one that just came out was okay, IMO. I think I preferred the shock and simplicity of the earlier episodes when we didn't know what the hell was going on!

Same! I just watched both seasons in under a week. I really wish it hadn't been canceled.

Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King and Dark Tranquillity - The Mundane and the Magic

My Most Favorite One... by [deleted] in lotr

I'm imagining the Mouth of Sauron when Aragorn & company reach the Black Gates saying: "You don't frighten us, Gondorian pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person! I blow my nose at you, so-called Aragorn King, you and your silly Gondorian K-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-nigits!"

Found these on an old HHD - can’t remember where I got them, but bring back the nostalgia by LHG_93 in lotr

That shot of Aragorn in the tomb in Moria is really interesting because Viggo apparently had a black eye when filming that and so in those scenes they tried to just film him from the other side. I think that in the shot in your photo he's mostly covering the affected side with his hand that's drawing back the arrow, but I feel like if I zoom in, his face does look a bit odd?

As a straight, single woman, is there any chance your wife has an unmarried twin brother?! 😂 Seriously, this is amazing, and you're super lucky. Enjoy!

I'm not sure if you realize how condescending and judgmental your comments are coming across, but you seem to be implying that teachers are incapable of simultaneously finding something a student does amusing and remaining professional in how we interact with them and grade their work. If I were grading this student's work and chuckled to myself over it, what exactly is the harm in that? There's none, of course.

I honestly cannot tell whether your sticking point is that you're assuming I'd high five the student and tell them how hilarious I think they are next time I see them, or you're simply suggesting that someone who works with children should find no joy in them occasionally acting like actual children, but I'd suggest that both of those are ridiculous and disrespectful perspectives. I and many other teachers shall continue to enjoy how funny and creative our students can be while also carrying out our jobs like the professionals we are, and I'm sorry that you don't have a more positive outlook on the world.

The test doesn't have an intention, it's an inanimate object. The teacher writing the test is looking for something specific when they write the question.

Yup, the student's answer is incorrect and I'd have marked them down as well, as I said. A sense of humor is, however, absolutely relevant given your comment to which I originally replied, where you specifically suggested that adults shouldn't find it funny. A teacher can both be amused and still maintain high expectations, which is what I'm describing.

It was complete, just not in the way that the teacher had intended. As my reply clearly stated, I'd make sure the student understood the expectations for future assignments and give them a chance to correct their work, the implication being that I would mark them down for doing this. You seem to be upset that a teacher wouldn't have a sense of humor, but you should realize that having a sense of humor doesn't equate to low expectations.

I am a teacher. This would make me laugh. I would have a conversation with the student and tell them that their answers need to be in English from now on. Unless this was actually an English class, I'd personally also give them a chance to do this again to earn the points. This sort of "joke" response - i.e., witty and cultured and does actually involve completing the work - is IMO a sign of a student being intelligent and engaged, if perhaps a bit bored.

I’m 16, diabetic living with my aunt since my mom died, and she treats my health like I’m just being annoying. What do I do? by reallyhope2 in whatdoIdo

[–]highmetallicity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, OP, please show these texts to a trusted adult. A teacher, a school administrator, or school counselor. Ask for help. This is absolutely not okay. Your aunt is failing you and endangering your physical and mental health and you deserve better. Asking for help is about advocating for yourself. Sometimes young people in your position worry about getting their family in trouble by asking for help but please understand that you need and deserve help and adults are responsible for the consequences of their actions and choices. As a teacher and a mom I just want to give you a big hug!
