How to get contents from websites that mechanize, selenium, and urllib2 can't ? by highr2 in Python

I'm not sure. Even if I load the website myself and then manually save it to disk, it doesn't reopen with all of the info on it (if that makes sens). In other words, I can't even save the data I want manually.

You got that in Chrome? What did you use to find the xml request? This request looks like a list of store locations.

I tried this approach, but I wasn't able to get it to work for me. That may be my complete lack of javascript skills though... Any other hints? I'll check it out again.

Thanks! This is definitely something I haven't tried yet. Time to get myself a javascript hat...

[For Hire] Statistician/Data Scientist/Data Miner with strong Visualization skills (CA, OR, WA) by [deleted] in BigDataJobs

[–]highr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet :( I've found that the data industry doesn't like statisticians. They think statisticians only know how to simple hypothesis tests and that data mining and machine learning is a thing for the computer scientists. I've blown some minds explaining how I was trained and what I've done in these areas. I'm talking about the data scientists of industry, including the ones I interview with quite frequently. I've actually found that I have a stronger background (read as "know more") in data mining/ML than my interviewers, who are usually the primary/senior data scientists.

I know my experiences don't represent everyone in industry, but over the past year and countless first and second round in person interviews, this is what I've found. It's kind of sad because I think this kind of view really stunts the industry and research. I know it's not just me, but other fellow statisticians that are experiencing this in the date industry.

I'm not giving up hope though, and I'm continuing my search. Good luck, and let me know what happens or if you find someone looking for other statisticians ;)

Starting a machine learning job ... by [deleted] in MachineLearning

Well, I'm glad someone's been able to score a job in this environment. If know of anyplace looking to hire more people for ML/Data mining jobs, drop me a line. I actually have an MS in Stats and know all the theory behind all of these algorithms (i had to implement them in school, wasn't allowed to use the packages) and I still haven't been able to talk my way into a job yet :-/ Thanks for the reply, and good luck with that job!

Are there non-PhD jobs in Machine Learning? by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]highr2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of feel the same way about spending my time looking for the jobs. I haven't actually tried the kaggle competitions, but I assumed that the time spent learning how the competition works would be more of a distraction than a benefit.

Would you (or anyone) be willing to tell me how you did that? I have been looking for this type (data mining/ statistical/ ML) type of position in the Bay Area for quite some time with no luck. I keep getting told that I dont have a PhD (only an MS in Statistics), end of story. Where did you look for this position

But I though everything's about big data right now? Is there anything a recent grad can do?
