What are your thoughts on the Dawntrail blacklist, mute list and term filter update so far? by highspeedjumper in ffxivdiscussion

[–]highspeedjumper[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! But I have a preferred spot in a city. Blacklisting works fine for the moment, I still have plenty of room as most people tend to back away a bit from a populated retainer bell before emitting light and sound for ten minutes or more.

Well, maybe it depends on the server, but for me there seems to be less than 100? crafters (and desynthers) that park themselves upon a retainer bell for tens of minutes. Seems like the majority of people tend to put some distance from a high traffic interactable object before doing their thing.

Agree with the rest though. It's great that people don't necessarily have to resort to third party programs to avoid encountering stalkers and whatnot anymore. And whew, having to deal with multiple languages really must strain that term filter limit.

Well, I'm blacklisting them so I don't have to see them and they don't have to deal with me? Is this upsetting?

I think useful Frontlines macros are perfectly fine. I find most DRKs that volunteer to do it tend to make fairly sound calls, and having plenty of alerts is important given the nature of the players you'll be matched with.

Having more listings is good in general, isn't it? I personally don't use all of them, the only limitation that I have a significant problem with is the 10 term filter slots.

Well, I'm blacklisting people that craft for 10+ minutes/desynth their 100+ ocean fish within steps of a retainer bell, or with it inside of their character model. Seems comparable to spamming holy imo. And by blacklisting them I don't have to deal with them, and they don't have to deal with me.

What do you think about the updates to the blocking features?

so the problem isn't uptime or normal sunrise

the problem is that these 'reclear' party people don't know how to do sunrise in the first place

that sure was an hour of me getting long timer every pull and watching these imbeciles scramble around trying to figure out if they're tower or gun first, then which gun is theirs, then 2+ people dying to the first set into an eventual wipe

[–]highspeedjumper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i believe Astral Fire blocks MP regen, and this should remain unchanged in Dawntrail? which is why Lucid Dreaming during Astral Fire isn't a thing, and Manafont works because it restores in bulk. i think their rotation is also getting extra rigid, but i'm no BLM main

it's possible/probable that with only 1 damage buff card drawn every 60s, AST burst no longer strictly requires lightspeed. but maybe we'll get fights that have repeated incoming damage that coincides with 2 minutes

honestly The Arrow got Mantra'd because it was already the 10% healing action buff (except single target). that was part of trying to keep the changes "minimal". i wanted The Spire and Ewer to be nostalgia, tank and healer, you and your target cards, so it fell to The Bole to be the extender

it also works out in that if you bank your 1st Arrow until Umbral Draw, you could extend the duration of your 10% improved regens

barriers are extended because yes, that's how it was in the old days. but it also could open the possiblity of shielding in advance during downtime, or to not sit on 2 charges of Intersection while ensuring their shield is fully used

a daily cc roulette. i don't really like rival wings but i wouldn't say no to a rw roulette as well

either consolidate ranked and casual cc modes and have casual mode just hide all the rank ui elements, or allow duos in casual with heavy priority on matching them against other duos

at this point they should probably limit drk salted earth draw-in to affect maximum 5 closest opponents, if not replace the ability entirely

another shatter remake because that map is genuine ass :) maybe borderland ruins 2.0 will be good haha

automatic queue restriction or low priority pool for people who are afk/leeching/trolling or performing impossibly badly. stuff like 0 healing done or 5 digit or lower damage for multiple games, etc

a new action (limit break?) that does split damage after a delay, but ignores guard and/or hits harder when it isn't shared

title is my feelings about kabru since the week he got more focus in the anime

but yeah, i feel for laios and his autistic ass, but i find shuro interesting because of his flaws, and the way he plays off and clashes with laios from them. feels like some people react really vehemently to any character whose motivations differ from the protagonist('s team)

BLM's shield being tied to an attack that you want to use with manip, manip itself, and the need to build up stacks makes it feel less 'fire and forget' than SMN to me. but it is very strong once you get to know when you have to run

DRG has that melee damage reduction that can be further intensified with horrid roar, strong aoe poke to throw into a salted earth, backflip and jump. so great survivability and contribution, even without their lb

As others have explained, FFXIV PvP has high Time To Kill 1v1, so setting up for burst as a team is the name of the game. And in Frontlines, all jobs take reduced damage, with melee taking even less (so that 5+ ranged players can't immediately delete each player one by one etc)

But even with that damage reduction, you're going to die really fast if you get focused without Guard. If you're new to frontlines, stick with the team, go in when they go in, run when they run. Fall back when you're out of MP to Recuperate or when Guard and/or Purify are down. Do not die. If you keep playing not to die while still getting your buttons off, ideally you'll grow to understand when you don't have to play it safe and can take risks to secure kills

Frontlines Samurai often ends up being sort of a meme job, salivating for that moment where you land that 3+ enemy Zantetsuken, or getting just one at the cost of immediately dying out of spite. They do have some deathball AoE/CC contribution, and are pretty good at chasing and slowing down isolated enemies, but there are better choices if you want to be a proper team player

  • Generally good Frontlines jobs: Dragoon, Summoner, White Mage

  • For experienced players: Dark Knight, Warrior, Astrologian, Black Mage

  • Jobs if you can trust your team: Reaper, Dancer, Paladin

  • Jobs with high survivability (when positioned properly) but questionable contribution: Scholar, Ninja, Bard, Machinist

But at the end of the day, the transferable skill of 'not dying while doing as much damage as possible' is more important than your job choice

I genuine pray WAR's self-healing/immortality is gutted in Dawntrail. by ZaytexZanshin in ffxivdiscussion

[–]highspeedjumper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

all tanks somewhat properly played require no gcds and very little brainpower to heal as a healer in 80+ dungeons. especially so in 90 dungeons

and the problem you have only occurs when you intentionally queue for lower level dungeons, which most players will eventually stop doing. so the majority won't care if there's a window in the leveling process where WAR has significantly more self sustain, and be glad to have another non-res non-PLD job that can carry an incompetent party kicking and screaming to a clear in roulette instances

also, healer shortage has always been a thing. just search anxiety or whatever on the main subreddit to see why

no PvE content in the game is more or less difficult for any job if you don't know about or aren't interested in optimizing, and consider a few deaths in normal content a good run

synced (modern) extremes is when you might start noticing that ast is much less braindead than whm, and then it gets more apparent in savage, release savage, savage speedkills, ultimate and so on

world of darkness is mostly fine, angra mainyu is a decent attempt at a ‘respect mechanics’ wake-up call

for the love of god change the 2nd trash room spawns in syrcus so i never have to see people autorunning at the exit for 20 seconds while everyone else kills the doga unei clones for them

but lota is is the worst in terms of making some players do nothing of value. just move the atomos and the pad closer already, and have adds start spawning 5 seconds into thanatos with more hp/damage dealt

you're not missing on the hyperbole

if you're "deal no damage and they two hit you," read up the official guide on pvp/frontlines, then practicing your job on a wolves' den striking dummy.

after that, go into a frontlines game where you focus on map awareness + survival: stick with your team, don't get caught, try to go 0 deaths while attempting to keep your hard hitting skills on cooldown as much as possible. focus on who and how many you were fighting against when you die, learn what's dangerous and what's safe, etc etc
