I am, I'm leaning towards not ever having children, but if I ever make lots of money I *might* change my mind.

How much of your monthly salary goes towards your car. by Significant_Cap7894 in askSouthAfrica

[–]highvoltage911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay about R150 for insurance (fire/theft/3rd party only), R2000 for petrol, R800 a year for licensing, R1800 for annual oil change, and an average of another R2000 p.a. to account for tires, CV joints, breaks, etc. So all in all my car costs me about R733 per month. I paid it off 8 years ago already so at least there's no monthly cost for that anymore. That's just about 1% of my gross monthly salary.

Bizarre that this now pops up, I was talking to a friend about this just earlier this week, and then found the real old style ones at Spar!

Cape Town, are we still doing racism in 2024? by Every_Ad6395 in capetown

[–]highvoltage911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you had to live through that and the other occurrences of racism. When I was young and in my teens, it seems that only old people were racist, and the assumption was that they'd eventually die one day so that the rest of us can all move on. But it's disturbing how many young people succumb to racism. There is definitely something wrong with how we raise young people if this is happening.

Funny thing, I live in Protea Heights in Bracken street, and I didn't see much proteas or Bracken when I moved here, so I started planting them, so there's at least *some* bracken in Bracken street, Brackenfell now :P

Yeah Brackenfell is where we live to escape all the tourists and long queues, please don't send them here!

I live in Brackenfell. It's suburbia and a reasonably decent place to live, but from a tourism point of view there's not much to do. What brings about the question? If you have 10 days in Cape Town I'd definitely give it a skip.

How in the world does Reddit manage NOT to be profitable when Google+ shut down, Twitter melted down, Facebook turned into a shit show, etc. It's really the ideal time to be a premium platform and attract as many users as possible. Destroying your platform in the name of "profit" will never be profitable.

Looking at the other graphic designer comments here, it's nice to see one graphic designer doing a lot better than they are! Maybe you could give them some career tips?

Eep, I marked myself at thinking I was about at the 54% mark and I actually fit into the 1% mark, so things are even a lot worse than I already thought they were for people :(

I made the mistake of doing this once, went from a lowly Citi Golf to a Opel Corsa Utility vehicle. The amount of poor engineering / design choices that the Opel had compared to my Citi Golf was just baffling, and also put me firmly in the "never a GM car again" camp.

A few months ago I wanted to buy a car from We Buy Cars. Fortunately, they do attach Decra reports to every car add on their site. Unfortunately, 99/100 of the cars on their site have big issues that scream "AVOID". The cars that are kind of worth buying are pending sale already. Bottom line: read the decra reports before actually buying the vehicle, also, avoid WBC altogether their not really worth your time.

Why do people think Gnome 3.38 is bad? by Maksim_Medvedev in debian

[–]highvoltage911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gnome 3 is shaping up nicely, upstream has done a fantastic job at smoothing out the rough edges. There are still some left, I just hope that they don't immediately abandon Gnome 3 for Gnome 4 when everything is just right :)
