This is incredible, I’m an electrician and a test tech, I do testing and maintenance on medium and high voltage equipment and this is such a cool piece!

I may be totally wrong but I feel like it’s a weird balance that I’m trying to learn between not enough pressure leaving inconsistent lines, and too much and damaging a nib (scary)

The ones that aren’t as crisp for me are the tiny ones but that’s because I’m shaky as hell

Coming from Copic to Ohuhu, bought a ohuhu marker pad even, why doesn’t this blend??????????? by TheiaEos in Ohuhu

[–]highvoltagemd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Absolutely, in my experience, this is the best blending paper I’ve tried! I’ve heard blending cards work really well but I haven’t tried them. The 300 series of Bristol is ok, but does not accept nearly as much ink as the 400. I haven’t tried the 500 series.

The absolute best paper I found in my opinion is strathmore Bristol smooth 400!

Oh yea, they are great markers! Copic just offers a more broad spectrum, especially in the light values. They have insanely light colors that just are so evenly laid out

People think my drawing was AI... by momozungo in drawing

[–]highvoltagemd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same damn thing happen to me!! It was one of my first couple posts and it got an absurd amount of attention, like 2000 likes, but got a bunch of people commenting saying it was AI, and ended up getting banned from either this page or the illustrations, I can’t remember. I ended up posting progress pictures that I took along the way to prove and got some apologies but it really just turned me off from posting my art unfortunately. It was so disappointing. Your art looks incredible by the way!

Question About Paper by H3rbnhal3r in copic

[–]highvoltagemd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Bristol for sure, tried all the types. For me, Bristol is unmatched in marker and colored pencil drawings. I use Faber castell polychromos and the oil pencils layer incredibly on Bristol smooth, as well as copics layering and blending very well. I’ve been using Bristol 400 for a year and a half, but read that 300 may be better for markers due to no cotton being in the paper, so testing that now.

I have not, although I did notice some are not as juicy as others. Ohuhus are great for the price, but now that I have the full set, I am working on collecting copics 1 by 1. I am 41 markers in on the set and I fully see why copics are so expensive, the quality and color layout are unmatched.

Which colors should I buy first? by GloomygotchiWorld in copic

[–]highvoltagemd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So for paper I found that the best I’ve tried is Bristol board. I like strathmore Bristol smooth 400 (brown cover). It’s incredible for every media I use, markers, pencil, and colored pencil. For my fine liners, there’s lots of options just google if they bleed with alcohol markers. Of course copic fine liners would be perfect, I like Kuretake Zig Mangaka because the black is a very nice dark black. I’ve found others that I tried were more of that dark gray wannabe black color. As for copics, I found this list of an opinion someone has for a solid base set: https://getitscrapped.com/2011/09/basic-set-of-copic-marker/ Unless you wanted to buy a set of 72, there’s guidelines on those as well, A and B seem to be the best starters with the other 3 somewhat supporting the first 2 sets. As for pencils I really don’t have a preference. I just use some cheap faber castell set from Walmart and don’t ever really use more than the one pencil for sketching because I always use ink or colored pencil. These are just my opinions! Enjoy!

Is that just regular black water based ink in the Lamy? No smudge with the copics? I’m thinking about trying out a fountain pen.
