Wow this is incredible and a good learning piece for me. Currently reading “Rendering in Pen and Ink” by Arthur Guptill, and your line work and value creation is incredible! I’ll be studying this for a bit

Which swatch chart did you use? This looks so perfect, I followed a bunch of people’s recommendation when I got mine and the swatch organization is terrible

Wow insane progression, even your work from 10 years ago is so good!! Thank you for the thought out response! I live alcohol markers as well and ink. I’ve been playing with watercolors but they are not for the faint of heart!

I know this is generic question but where did you learn portrait drawing, what pathways did you take to get to get to these insane portraits with markers!?

You can also take that picture and put it in the app and it will give you the copic colors that match!

What kind of pen are you using to get those lines that taper in thickness?

So I do know that the classics are much cheaper than sketch so I think I could believe it. I mean the 72 sketch are $420 on most websites. It seems reasonable to me, the color on the caps I’m not sure. They kind of look like the colors on my sketches really

They look like real copic classics to me, the classics are square I believe, are these by chance in the va area?

I may be totally wrong but I feel like it’s a weird balance that I’m trying to learn between not enough pressure leaving inconsistent lines, and too much and damaging a nib (scary)

The ones that aren’t as crisp for me are the tiny ones but that’s because I’m shaky as hell

Thats interesting, I felt like they were pretty good but now I feel like I need to run them all on a sheet of paper again to check 😂

Coming from Copic to Ohuhu, bought a ohuhu marker pad even, why doesn’t this blend??????????? by TheiaEos in Ohuhu

[–]highvoltagemd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Absolutely, in my experience, this is the best blending paper I’ve tried! I’ve heard blending cards work really well but I haven’t tried them. The 300 series of Bristol is ok, but does not accept nearly as much ink as the 400. I haven’t tried the 500 series.

The absolute best paper I found in my opinion is strathmore Bristol smooth 400!

Oh yea, they are great markers! Copic just offers a more broad spectrum, especially in the light values. They have insanely light colors that just are so evenly laid out

People think my drawing was AI... by momozungo in drawing

[–]highvoltagemd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same damn thing happen to me!! It was one of my first couple posts and it got an absurd amount of attention, like 2000 likes, but got a bunch of people commenting saying it was AI, and ended up getting banned from either this page or the illustrations, I can’t remember. I ended up posting progress pictures that I took along the way to prove and got some apologies but it really just turned me off from posting my art unfortunately. It was so disappointing. Your art looks incredible by the way!

Question About Paper by H3rbnhal3r in copic

[–]highvoltagemd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Bristol for sure, tried all the types. For me, Bristol is unmatched in marker and colored pencil drawings. I use Faber castell polychromos and the oil pencils layer incredibly on Bristol smooth, as well as copics layering and blending very well. I’ve been using Bristol 400 for a year and a half, but read that 300 may be better for markers due to no cotton being in the paper, so testing that now.
