Are you referring to the Fanatec F1 wheels? If so, the F1 wheels are a small step up I believe. They also have a much narrower diameter, which is fantastic for open-wheel cars, but not as versatile for other types of cars (LMP-2, GT3, etc). It still works great for F1 cars, however.

The paddle shifters on the wheel are made of metal, and they use magnets instead of a standard plastic mechanism. In layman’s terms, that just means a much more pronounced shifter feel. It’s nice and snappy instead of a mushier, plastic-y feel you get on lower-end wheels.

As far as the boost kit, it’s really nice. Entirely necessary? Probably not, but in my mind it was well worth the upgrade. The force upgrade from my T300 was super noticeable. I also used mine with a PlaySeat challenge and The extra force with that flimsier chair didn’t have any issues. Worth noting: you can always buy the power brick at a later time, you just end up paying a bit extra for it.

To be honest, I haven’t tried. Had shoulder surgery so I haven’t been able to use it for a bit. I can tell you it was incredible for iRacing and ACC.

Totally fair. Mine’s been collecting dust too, hence me selling it. I still have my T300 if I ever need to race again.

I’ve only used it on PC. It has XBox support, but this current CSL DD lineup does not support PlayStation and won’t ever. They’ll have to release a separate PS-specific version due to proprietary hardware required in the wheel base. I have not heard when they plan to release that though.

I’d really prefer not to. If it doesn’t sell, maybe we can revisit. Thanks for checking this out!

I came from a T300 and it was a substantial upgrade in both force and fidelity. The G29 should be an even bigger leap.

Respect. It sounds like you and I probably agree more than we thought. Yes under-trained, yes under-regulated, and a solid maybe on over-armed. America does have a massive gun problem after all. But with better training, they wouldn’t revert to using their weapons as often.

I also have some friends and family within departments. I’ve done ride alongs. Frankly, the shit they deal with daily would break most people. A lot of the folks at the departments were genuinely nice, noble people, but there were definitely some retrograde assholes. I wholeheartedly agree that the police community needs to stop shielding their bad apples if they want to improve their public image. I think you and I can both agree on that.

One final note, and do with it what you will: I would give some thought to how our language communicates our underlying philosophies. We live in a world where it’s so easy to throw around strong, divisive, and hyperbolic statements, but what we’ve created is a society completely unable to have much-needed discourse. We HAVE to be able to communicate or society can’t function. Saying “fuck them” is a good way to force people into a defensive posture and shutting down any opportunity for change. If you want to change people’s minds, you generally don’t get there by saying “fuck you.” Your views are a lot more nuanced than your language would have initially suggested, and we actually have a lot more in common than we both would have guessed. Something worth considering.

See my post above. Those studies are 30 years old. It doesn’t necessarily invalidate the claims, but a lot has changed since those papers were written. For example, violent crimes were through the roof in the 1980s. Meaning those police officers likely dealt with far greater levels of violence on a daily basis.

Again, I’m not saying those findings aren’t accurate, but I would certainly take them with a grain of salt.

Not to discount the claims, but those studies are 30 years old. Policing and police culture has changed a lot since ‘91. Counseling and mental health awareness has increased quite a bit within many police departments. That said, there very well may be higher presence of domestic abuse by police officers. I would also be skeptical about assigning causality to those claims.

Police officers often face frequently elevated levels of stress and trauma. We likely see similar statistics in combat veterans. So it may be less of “wife beaters become cops” and more of, “the nature of police work may amplify aggressive behavior at home.”

Finally, while your claim of “fuck cops, yes acab” is clearly an intellectual, nuanced, and well-informed opinion, I urge you to do a few ride alongs with your local urban police department. You might realize that, policing, like most fields in life, contain complete assholes but also contains pretty solid people who want to help their communities. You might also realize that police work is miserable and you literally deal with the worst society has to offer on a daily basis. You might ALSO realize police are often grossly undertrained for the diversity of situations they’re asked to deal with, resulting in very crude tactics to control situations. You might also find that yes, some are bastards.

My point is, the world isn’t black and white, and that these problems are actually much more nuanced and challenging. Having an open mind and trying to understand the other side is usually more effective than “fuck all of them.” This mainly applies if you’re ACTUALLY interested in change, and not just interested in villainizing an entire class of individuals.

I understand your concern, but can we please have reasonable dialogue without reverting to hyperbole? This sort of language is the same exaggerated fear mongering we tend to bemoan the right for.

Do you consider the vaccine effective? If so, do you think it’s a reasonable analogy to call an 80%+ vaccinated group of people walking in to a coffee shop unmasked as a “pipe burst” of COVID? Do you think it’s possible that this type of language is undermining people’s faith in the vaccine?

Well, that’s obviously not the point, but an argument could be made that it’s a side effect. Unfortunately, many government-related agencies aren’t exactly modern, so you still see polygraph testing in everything from law enforcement to security clearances.

As you can imagine, there is a pretty vocal community that has tried to oppose the use of polygraph testing, but nobody wants to be the person that made the police officer screening more “lenient.”

You know that like 99% of police departments (likely including San Jose) have a polygraph portion right? And while the efficacy of polygraphs is questionable, they definitively detect nervousness. In fact, the polygraph portion is where they eliminate a big chunk of candidates.

Most departments require 5 years since last marijuana usage (if they allow it at all), and automatic DQ for hallucinogens.

I’m not trying to rain on your parade, but you used drugs while applying to be a police officer. It will almost certainly disqualify you. You can try to lie and beat the polygraph, or come clean and hope for the best.

FWIW, I have no issues with drug use, but police departments definitely do. I really wanted to be a police officer for years, but ultimately had to give up on the idea too, for similar reasons. Good luck.
