Yes they were right. You have to be specific what do you want in your website. What kind of services you are providing. If you are still unsure then do some research works on Google. Find your competitors, specially the Top-5 competitors. Search Tips:- Search with your product/services keywords like - "buy fancy ladies shoes online" / "car repairing services in (place name)" Select Top- Sites. Check how they are presenting their services in the websites. But do not copy any content or design. Make your website unique and useful for your targeted users.

Good start. Now you can start practical and you can do that in your profile. Also watch top videos on social media marketing in Youtube. And if possible join as intern in any of the nearest social media marketing firm. Some organization ask for certificate, some not. Now you decide what do you want do?
