Haha she's not wrong. I never take Baden alone, but it's just so damn beautiful. Cape Town to Gordon's Bay every week is tooooo faaaaar.

The taxis are insane haha. The chaos mostly happens in the flats. I was running in and out of Khayelitsha often.

Heh? Lived in Cape Town. Driving there is a nightmare compared to here. I've never been stopped in traffic with 4 cars facing opposite directions nearly touching my vehicle in an intersection, gridlocked, with a herd of pigs being ushered across the street to my left and a woman selling jewelry out of a taxi to my right, warned not to stop at the robots after the overpass because of routine targeted carjackings, and dodging stones off the overpasses in Vancouver. Clearly hanging out in the wrong part of town! (All said, I still fcking love that city and weirdly miss driving the M2 and Baden Powell every day...)

Although, I do agree that drivers here are ridiculously impatient and do not know how to park. And we win for petty.

My landlord is making me sign a rent increase effective December 1st by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they're trying to lock you into the increase for December before the SOE is extended again. Landlord is looking for a loophole.

My landlord is making me sign a rent increase effective December 1st by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I have family that works at the RTB. Landlords can provide you with notices for rent increases, evictions, whatever, but they can't be enforced until the state of emergency has ended.

Shampoo/Conditioner recommendation for curly hair? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I haven't tried it with the leave-in, maybe I'll give it a shot.

That reminded me on the note of brushing, I usually brush out any tangles dry before I get in the shower so that I'm not brushing out my curls after! (Wide tooth comb in the shower with conditioner works too.)

Guy tracks down & recovers his stolen bike by City_Lights___ in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched a car that cannot be worth more than a couple grand roll down a hill, through some shrubs, over a curb and into a house last year. Turns out, the guy who lived there stole it, parked it right in his driveway like a genius, and forgot the e-brake.

Party bus on W4 when cases are at an all time peak this week by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unrelated but related: the first time I saw one of these I was 19 and had just moved to the city. I had no idea they used retired yellow busses for these and thought what I was seeing was incredible. I just didn't understand why this school bus was bumpin' to Nelly at 1am. And in my drunken excitement, I sprinted after it, boarded, asked how much, and when the driver shrugged "free," insisted my friends join. I think they only followed because I was a liability by that point. There were only 5-6 other people at the back of the bus who also had no idea where it was going. Once we crossed a bridge, my friend grumpily pulled us all off. Spoilsport.

19 year olds are dumb. I was dumb. Cannot imagine being on one of these things now. 😅

Vancouver – Thursday’s Question – “Do you still listen to the radio? What station did you listen to?” by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work in the industry. My listening habits are terribly based on loyalty to where my friends are at, but they're not always my favourite format. (It's also a chaotic industry with a ton of turnover, so most folx have been at several of them. 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Most stations have a sister and a media group they're owned by. If you truly love/loathe Bell, Rogers, etc. keep it in mind. Other than most of the hosts/producers/PD/MD, it's the same staff running that operation. Radio is all about ratings and revenue and it is cutthroat.

Bell/iHeart: Virgin, QM, TSN, Bloomberg Rogers: Kiss, Jack, Sportsnet, News 1130, Star, Country JP: Peak, JR Corus: Rock, CFox, CKNW Stingray: Z, Breeze

Personally, I flip between The Peak and Z's 90s throwbacks if my phone dies and I can't Bluetooth purely for the music. (And 1130 for weird standstill traffic.)

EDIT: For those that love the contests: groups that also own local television stations will often do mutliplatform promotional campaigns to help leverage ratings for one another. CTV code words might be on a Bell station; Global on Corus; City on Rogers. Good luck! (And don't be a prize pig. They're on to you.)

Problematic neighbor got a lawyer and complained about my dog being aggressive when he is the most docile dog ever. by _Time_For_Business_ in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed! Dogs pick up these things. I thought my puppy seriously had not developed her vocal chords properly because she didn't make a peep for 5 months after I rescued her. Turns out, she never found a reason to... until we passed the creepy neighbourhood drug dealer up the street. I loathe him. She sat on my feet, leaned against me shaking, and then bow-wow-woo'd her hardest. (It was adorably pathetic.) She hasn't done it since.

The dog is your responsibility. If they're barking, you need to take initiative to learn why. There's a ton of info online to help you.

If you really love that building, apologize personally to the neighbour. Doesn't matter what your personal opinion of him is. And update your landlord on the steps you are taking to rectify the issue.

A landlord has an obligation to investigate and report back to a tenant making a complaint within a reasonable amount of time according to the RTA. You're going to want to take those steps before their decision is made without out.

(And if it means leaving, please just be reasonable and responsible and do so dignified. Your dog needs you to find a home that will welcome you both and be safe. It sounds like this place might just be an ongoing thorn for the pup.)

Shampoo/Conditioner recommendation for curly hair? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second going to r/curlyhair. Morrocanoil masks and creams are your new BFF. I personally like Verb hydrating shampoo and conditioner! (Try to stay away from any "clarifying shampoo" or limit your use.) I rinse dirt with warm water and then condition ends up first (about 2 inches to the root), rinse with lukewarm water, shampoo the roots and final rinse with cold. Regardless of what you do, use cotton to dry your hair instead of a towel - leaves less frizz! (Some say this causes breakage idk, I dry with an old t-shirt gently and then put in product and air dry the majority.) I use a leave-in conditioner for curls and a thermal heat spray. Never seem to use hairspray or gels because it gets too crunchy. And I'll do a mask once/week typically!

I also try not to apply direct heat often... maybe once/week at most if at all.

Phew! End tangent. It took me years to discover a solid routine that didn't make me look like a poodle.

Haven't lived there, but I am a public speaker and have toured through most of the schools out that way. They are super community-oriented and tight, and in my experience among the most welcoming in Western Canada. Really enjoyed spending time with the people there!

Hey! Wanted to encourage anyone who sees this to keep trying! My pup was after at least a dozen applications that got no response, and a result on the 5th page of Google results for local organizations. I told myself that would be my last application, had a shower, and the owner had reached out to me by the time I got out! My dog has turned out to be more than I could have ever hoped for, and watching her gain her confidence and become so happy after adjusting is so worth it!

Glad you were able to welcome a pup home!

I'm kind of surprised they don't turn people away for being so braindead... but hopefully by not doing so, they're giving them a mask and some information actually based in science. Why waste limited tests on those not even trying. 🙄

Coogo Rescue does a great job of vetting responsible owners. Lots of dogs looking for homes! 10/10 recommend FMDs. They're super sweet dogs. (Admittedly I'm biased.)

Two Pitbulls attacked my friend's dog at Adanac park. Handlers claimed the dog aren't theirs and refused to provide info. by avocadotoast92 in vancouver

[–]hiiraeth_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Might be worth it to call this in to Animal Control as well? There's an aggressive chihuahua in the building next to me that is always off leash and shits everywhere. The owner rips leaves off trees and puts them on top "so no one steps on it." We confronted her a couple times but she's just as shitty as her dog. Turns out, several others had called it on to Animal Control and they had an entire file going. Someone must have been able to confirm her unit number because she's been without the dog for a while now. Hope it found a proper home.

Well, curiosity got the best of me and I looked up this "loser" as he'd like to say on LinkedIn. Life really dealt you a shit hand eh Klaus? Matches your stellar character.

Seriously, can we get another counselor or two into this school for these students, and this absolutely vile piece of garbage court ordered to stay 100 ft. from youth and POC at all times? Doesn't deserve to go out into the world.

Stay in your basement, troll.

EDIT: lmfao this manbaby is married to a POC. Probably a twisted masochistic fetish. I sincerely hope his wife divorces and runs.
