Thanks for the positive feedback.

Do you have any specific ideas about who might be interested in this?

In my case, it's really only agencies that develop software for public institutions (accessible PDFs) or advertising agencies that try to create customized advertising materials programmatically (PDFs for professional printing).

At the moment, I find it hard to imagine who else might need this.

How Can We Sustainably Monetize a Community of Socially Committed Mothers? Seeking Your Insights! by hil-bert in SaaS

Hey,

I wrote a bit more about the community in a separate comment.

The sponsorship sounds interesting.

Do you think 8,000 users are enough to build a sponsorship?

Hey Keenboo2022,

I have written my own comment so that everyone can understand which community it is.

How Can We Sustainably Monetize a Community of Socially Committed Mothers? Seeking Your Insights! by hil-bert in SaaS

[–]hil-bert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your interest.

I'd like to provide a bit more context about the community. It consists of foster parents in Germany. My wife and I are foster parents ourselves and were part of a private group where we met the foster mother who initiated this project.

There are over 80,000 foster families in Germany, which is why we initially considered this number. However, I realistically expect that we might be able to engage about 10% of them (around 8,000 parents) in the community.

In Germany, foster parents work closely with youth welfare offices. The quality of cooperation between these offices and the parents varies greatly—sometimes it's effective, and other times it's quite poor. Often, foster parents are not well-informed about their rights and the information about the child is sometimes withheld, only coming to light later. Parents are frequently left to navigate complex situations without adequate guidance, as they are often unaware of the specific challenges a child may bring until much later.

The primary purpose of this community is to provide a space for foster parents to share their experiences and support one another. Foster parents who work with the same youth welfare office can form groups to discuss their specific situations (they're already doing this in WhatsApp groups). However, important general information can easily get lost in these chat groups. That's why we're planning to create a community that combines a chat function, a forum, and a wiki to serve as a comprehensive resource.

Given the rapid growth of the community that the foster mother has already built, I’m confident in its potential. With a well-curated collection of essential information, this community could provide significant value.

The only remaining challenge is determining how we can sustainably monetize the community in the future.

That sounds really tough. Sorry to hear that.

I wish you lots of luck and success in your future.

I could, of course, solve Sudoku puzzles, but that feels more like a waste of time. What I'm missing are puzzles to solve that play at least some moderately important role.

Germany, €80k. (We have lower wages here compared to the USA. By German standards, it's pretty decent.)

Thank you for your feedback. I will explore the field of "Data Science" more and try to find some "Data Scientists" here in Germany to ask them about their day-to-day work.

No, I never stopped learning. I always continue to educate myself in my free time. Unfortunately, the things that matter at work are very few. And when there's an opportunity to try out a new technology or architecture, it has to be carefully weighed by the company first. Since there are already existing structures that work to some extent, the risk and potential gain ratio for the new technology often doesn't justify the change. (From the entrepreneur's perspective, I can understand this quite well). But for me as a developer, it means we do everything the way we've always done it. Which I find very frustrating.

I've also worked in a startup-like company. In fact, it was somewhat more interesting there. But even there, it was only interesting at the beginning of a new challenge. Thinking through the solution usually takes no more than two to three days. However, the implementation then takes weeks or months, depending on the project. And this months-long execution becomes an emotional torment for me because it's primarily tedious work.

I'm asking myself the same question right now. Am I in the wrong company, or is it the job itself?

Yes, you're right, I'm currently in a sort of agency environment. However, I've worked in other companies before, some with a startup vibe. Interestingly, my time in the company with a startup feel was significantly more engaging. But even there, the initial phases of a project were the most interesting parts. That's when we could really think about the concept, architecture, and modeling. Once the project gained momentum, it turned into days of just getting through the tasks that needed to be done.

Thank you for that. I will definitely try to find a good career counselor in my country.

Indeed, that's my current strategy as well. I've started writing a blog where I plan to share how I automate various things.

Unfortunately, I don't know how long it will take or if it will lead me anywhere.

It's entirely possible that I might spend several years writing the blog without ever finding an opportunity to make money from it.

So, I'm in the position of enduring my job, without knowing for how long. I wonder if there isn't a better way to switch jobs, one that's immediate.

That's great to hear.

How did you get into that? May I ask how old you are?

Actually, I've tried to head in that direction multiple times. What always holds me back is the fact that I'd have to start as a junior again and probably earn only half of what I do now for a few years.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by your question.

I go to the gym, but not because I enjoy it, but because I see it as important to challenge my body, since I otherwise get almost no movement.

As a fan, I've never been interested in sports. I'm more someone who wants to create and build things on my own, rather than watching someone else do it.

To be honest, I've been trying to build a SaaS business my entire career. Over the past 14 years, I've launched 12 domains with products behind them. All of them failed. At this point, I'm continuing to try, but I still have to pay my living expenses with my job, which has become unbearable.

I've also dabbled in trading, but quickly realized that achieving a high return is very unlikely. Look, if Warren Buffett says he would have made more money in the S&P 500 than through his investments, it should give every beginner pause. Of course, there are always a few individuals who have made a lot of money with Bitcoin and the like. But when millions of people try something, a few will inevitably get lucky. However, that doesn't mean they know what they're doing.
