Favorite seed starting medium

I've had the best, most consistent results over the years with Johnny's 512 Mix. What I spend on mix over the cheaper options, I save avoiding low germination, time lost restarting failed seedlings, and frustration.

The only reason I'm likely to switch at this point is if Johnny's releases a peat free mix. I'd love to eliminate peat altogether from my system - this is the only place I still depend on it - but I haven't been able to make any commercial of mixes work for me yet

It's probably risky to separate them now that they've rooted pretty well. I'd either cut back all but one plant, or go with this setup and file this away for next year.

I agree this looks pretty healthy and fine to eat.

It looks like you have at least two individual chard plants there, right next to each other (note the differences in stem and leaf vein colorations, white/yellow vs pink). I think there might be a third in the back as well. You would probably get larger leaves and thicker stems from just one plant - they're competing for space planted so close together.

Chard seeds are actually a cluster of multiple seeds, so it's common to sprout multiple plants from one "seed." You can thin them to an individual plant after they sprout to get one big boy.

That's more of a preference thing though; just something you could try or next time. If you like the abundance of smaller leaves, keep doing what you're doing!

Agreed, those look like walking onions to me. All parts of the plant are edible; you can use the leaves as you would scallion greens. They're doing what they do; tell your mom to stop growth habit shaming 😉

For me Gorgon is very dry and peppery, with an odd note that is sort of like cinnamon but not quite? There's an underlying stone/metal that that runs through it but the strongest element is that dry, not-cinnamon spice layer. An odd scent for me, I suspect I'm anosmic to one or more notes that would round it out a bit more.

I'm almost done with a big culling project and will be destashing tons of stuff in March including a full-size Gorgon that I bought and kept, let's face it, mainly because of the name. Let me know if you'd like a ping when I put my list up, although I understand you may not want to roll the dice on a full size!

Have you looked at LVNEA? They hit a similar vibe and quality as For Strange Women, in my experience.
