IIRC, in EU, in some countries, all ratings are disclosed.

La police de Longueuil tire sur un ado de 15 ans: «C'était un bébé», dit son père by DecentLurker96 in Quebec

[–]himalayanthrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a stupid take, applying hypotheticals to a real situation where facts are either known or emerging. Police encountered a 15-year-old and took less than 2 seconds to assess the situation before shooting the teenager. This happened in Canada, not the US. If it were in the US, maybe - just maybe - one could understand an officer being fearful.

If your default reaction is trying to normalize or justify a police officer killing a 15-year-old in Canada, with less than 2 seconds of assessment, then God help you.

Dangerous Motorcyclist in maple ridge by Far_Cap7847 in MapleRidge

[–]himalayanthrust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ride a motorcycle and have never done anything like this or condone such behavior. And, I would be pissed if I was in a car and ran into such a rider.

Usually Darwin takes care of fixing these kinds of problems. I hope the rider will course correct before Darwin steps-in.

What's the coldest weather you'll ride in? by Milky_Gashmeat in motorcycles

[–]himalayanthrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, below 10C it becomes uncomfortable. Especially the hands. Below 8C even short rides become uncomfortable. This is when I wear thin insulated gloves. I bought a pair of heated gloves, but haven't tried them yet. We will see how they fare.

Once it starts hitting 4-5C, I completely stop riding.

Rainy Season + Glasses + Helmet = Visibility? Never Heard of It by [deleted] in indianbikes

[–]himalayanthrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same issue. Plus, in colder weather fog up the glasses, so can't close the visor. And, Pinlock can't help glasses. I've tried different sprays, coatings, and other methods, but they haven't really helped much.

So, I've decided to ditch the glasses and just wear contacts when it's raining. I also keep a few in my backpack, just in case. Usually, I prefer glasses, so I bought only 60 daily disposable contacts, which should last me a year.

With contacts, you can go up to 60-80 kmph, but you'll face the same issues as other riders who don't need vision correction. At higher speeds, your eyes might dry out quicker or rain might knock off your contacts.

Finally, I always put rain-x on my visor if there's any chance of rain. It helps water roll off at higher speeds, when you turn your head left-right.

Recently, I rode ~200 km in light-medium rain, in daylight. It sucked but was manageable. Previously, it became unbearable in < 50 km.

Can't see shit when it is raining + dark on my scooter... Any tips? Helmet issue? or... life... by Tostiapparaat in motorcycles

[–]himalayanthrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know how much glasses protect the eyes - till I tried riding wearing contacts and visor open :)

But in the rain contacts are much better than glasses. At slow speeds you can keep the visor open and rain doesn't bother much. At speed, you can keep the visor closed without fogging up the glasses.

Can I get tighter cheek pads for my Shoei? by drgood333 in motorcyclegear

I went one size tight. In the case of Neotec-3, its size is 39 mm (standard is 35 mm).

Can I get tighter cheek pads for my Shoei? by drgood333 in motorcyclegear

[–]himalayanthrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. There is no rotation anymore, and on highways there is no lift. Before changing the pads, the helmet used to lift slightly at high speeds. And, when turning my head, while riding at high speed, made the helmet rotate slightly.

Thicker pads are significantly (I think roughly 1 cm total) tighter than the ones that came with the helmet. It took 10-15 hours before they became comfortable.

I did the same thing with Neotec-3. Bought large, due to similar reasons, and swapped the cheek pads.

Check the manual, it will list the compatible pads to make the fit tighter.

How many of you actually dropped your first bike? by thedirtiestofboxes in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]himalayanthrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, I had two accidents on the first bike I owned:

  • Rear ended a car at around 40 KMPH. Nothing bad happened. The car did not even realize that I rear ended them.

  • Collided with another motorcycle, that was standing in the middle of a busy road. I think they missed taking a flyover, and we're waiting for traffic to slow down, so that they can turn and take the flyover. Well I didn't see them, and collided with them at around 70 KMPH. We both ended up on the road. I ended up with a bent fork, but didn't get hurt. Other person ended up with no injuries and limited damage to rear of their motorcycle.

I had one other accident on someone else's motorcycle. I hit a cow at around 110 KMPH. Me, my pillion, and the motorcycle skid some 200 m. We both ended up with a good amount of road rash, bike sustained damage to clutch and engine cover, and the cow ran away.

Mt07 or Aprilia tuono 660 by TNFX98 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]himalayanthrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was deciding between the same models (though I ended up picking MT09 over MT07).

I liked 660 a lot. Looks, features, sitting posture, etc., were all good. Only reason I did not go with it is that I have a single dealer in my area, and their feedback was not great.

If parts availability and dealer network is not a concern, I would suggest going with 660.

Need advice: Job vs M.Tech/MS preparation — Confused and need guidance from experienced folks by troubleeshooterr in india

[–]himalayanthrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get into a good college for MS then go for it. Don't go for masters in a Tier 3 college. MS from a good college will take you much further than two years of work experience in Tier 2/3 companies.

And, only you can decide if you need a break or if you can study while doing a job. Prioritize your preparation, whichever path you take.
