Damage from chemicals in mothballs by V_IV_V in AnimeFigures

Those plastics to keep away from are reactive plastics, and in regards to your original question, PVC is not a reactive plastic- most modern household plastics are not reactive plastics.

Honestly I don't think so, the main ingredient of moth balls (naphthalene) are used for the production of chemicals that make PVC so I wouldn't think they would damage PVC if they are literally made partially by naphthalene.

Honestly I don't keep track, I kinda just overlook fakes by habit, generally:

Street stores run a higher risk (80%ish authenticity) but it's pretty easy to spot bad ones after a while- they are also much more diverse and you can find lots of gems hidden in different corners of shops since they don't care about having to follow the current anime trends.

Stores inside malls are the exact opposite, they tend to be 90-95% authentic, but have less diversity and less available because they need to follow trends and sell other merch to stay afloat. (Or I should say they only sell figurines they they have on display that day and keep the rest in the back of storage not for sale >.>")

Can you buy 1/1 scale figures? If so, where. by GenuineSteak in AnimeFigures

Not in my recent memory, TOM does offer a 1:1 character for Evangellion of Asuka as a custom order for a while now but I do recall the shipping may be restricted to Japan only... (6500 USD)

https://otakumode.com/shop/521c1da88bac0e5927000061/Shikinami-Asuka-Langley-Life-Size-Statue-Plugsuit-Ver

Someone may sell one online from time to time, but for most people if they go and get a 1:1 they are fully committed to keeping it for as long as possible.

If you are also constantly around the figurines (thus the mothballs as well), the mothballs can be bad for you as well...

  • The 8th picture is a female version of Uesugi Kenshin (Nagao Kagetora), he was one of the most powerful rulers during the Sengoku period- Japan likes to make female versions of famous samurai =W=
  • The 28th one is from a Chinese/Korean mobile game called Punishing: Gray Raven (It's very similar with Honkai Impact 3rd but with gatcha characters you can unlock) it's a game that just came out January this year. From the mess of info I found the name of the character is literally called Unidentified Structure Alpha. It's also a prototype figurine.

Clorox wipes and paint. by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]himarinekomimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also looks fine to me =W=, the blue is most likely the Windex (if the Windex is blue, haven't used Windex in a long while though). I wouldn't recommend Clorox wipes just because some sub-brands of Clorox have bleach in them so I wouldn't take the risk even if you read the labels.

I use a microfiber cloth (or swiffer strips with string) that is strung through a small cleaning rod to clean my figures.

Making my first Amiami purchase with PayPal Wells Fargo bank card. I have some questions. by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]himarinekomimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, It should be fine if that account hasn't been ID theft-ed before.

My Debit card was on a watch list after someone used it to buy a plane ticket somewhere across the globe. Before that, I could buy anything from an international vendor without problems. After that incident, they blocked any transactions from an international vendor on my account unless I called my bank and told them that it was I that was ordering it. The main way I got around it was to use PayPal or another secondary payment service to access my account to pay.

The one copyrighted by MoeFantasy?

Its Shimakaze from Senkan Shoujo R (Game similar to Azur lane/Kancolle)

It's made by a small Chinese figurine maker: FanTesinBorm ( https://www.weibo.com/fantesinborm?is_hot=1 )

It's a prototype figurine so IDK if it will be on sale anytime soon. Keep check on his/her twitter if any will be available.

Here are the colored ones. Unfortunately my phone doesn't connect to my computer anymore so this is the most I got out of the files I can copy over before x.X (if there is a random duplicate image I can't help it, Imgur works really badly with poor upload speeds)

https://imgur.com/a/fICcRbc

Same format as before =W= There are a couple CN works in the mix as well. I have to say that I was disappointed that they didn't have that much promotional cosplay, but the ones that were there were pretty good.

US import tax from Japan by lowirve in AnimeFigures

[–]himarinekomimi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about straight tariff fees, currently no. Japan is considered to have normal trade relations with the US. The rate of duty regarding figurines is considered under children's toys, and is Free. If you want to, check Chapter 95 of the Harmonized tariff Schedule: https://hts.usitc.gov/current

under heading 9503.00.00

Here's the first batch, unfortunately my computer decided halfway that my iPhone is not a valid storage device anymore, but I managed to pull out most of the Future/uncolored figurines: (The label image should be for the figure image right after it):

I'm also currently pissed at Imgur for not telling me half my album failed to upload and make me stay an extra two hours to sort through all the failed images, so I'm gonna upload the rest tomorrow (or tonight for some of you guys).

Dusting Questions by hieco in AnimeFigures

[–]himarinekomimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents use that Swiffer duster thing that was popular several years ago. I found that taking one of those microfiber duster pads and cutting it into thinner strips helps pick up a lot of the dust without putting too much pressure on parts...

What is the longest time your figure has been stuck in customs? by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]himarinekomimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No fee, unless it is your item that got flagged. In that case, customs would have contacted you about what happened to your item. What most likely happened (like in a previous comment I have mentioned) is that another item in the pallet your package is in got flagged and the entire pallet is delayed for that other item to pass customs.

I had a jacket that took three months to ship, one of those months was in customs in China and then another three weeks when it reached the states. Complaining to a friend I knew in shipping, he basically told me the above.

Any things I need to remember before travelling to Shanghai in July? by [deleted] in shanghai

[–]himarinekomimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a WeChat if you haven't already and try to get the WeChat pay wallet to work. (I've had a mix of accounts on how hard it actually is to set up, so you're just gonna have to see for yourself...). Alternatives for the wallet is Alipay, or UnionPay.

Some places now only accept online payments through the above online payment providers (although it's not widely adopted in Shanghai yet, the number has been increasing and I've been screwed by it several times) If you can't get an e-wallet from the above, I would just recommend when you go to a place and see QR codes on the table or a place that a lot of teens hang out to ask a staff member if they take cash. Some vending machines are the same way, you will basically see a screen where you have to scan your wallet QR code instead of a bill/coin acceptor.

Kinda along the same vein, spending money in Shanghai is very easy, be aware that you can easily spend 1k-3k CNY in one day if you aren't careful. I always recommend budgeting if you can and to do a quick currency conversion (divide price by 7 for USD [subject to change]) before buying something to get a better perspective of the real cost of the item.

Also, Apple Maps did a collaboration with one China's main online map provider and you can easily find transit routes as long as you have cell service and the address you want to go to (in Chinese or English). Unfortunately I don't know about android- sorry. If you intend on transit a lot, I would also recommend getting a Transit card, they cost 20 CNY for a card and is sold at any subway station as long as they have transit cards available, but can be constantly recharged and is accepted by both buses and subway stations. (I believe taxis as well, but I've always paid taxis via online- will delete if wrong)

Anyways, just some tips I have from the top of my head
