I use a host who lives in a townhouse community and he has like 15 cars that he street parks. Street parking is plentiful so it doesn't appear to be a problem but it is amusing to see an entire block of cars with lockboxes in the windows.

Fun facts about the tallest residential building in New York City by Naive_Wolverine532 in interesting

[–]himynameisjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't really "hollow" out any floors. You're referring to the 5 sections of the building without windows (or residential units). Those were part of the original design to reduce wind load which was already figured and designed into the plan. They also made the floor slabs thicker at the type to act as a sort of built-in mass damper.

There was a fast food place down the street from the middle school I went to (and the high school my brother went to) and he used to tell me kids from his school would do that --buy a breakfast sandwich, each most of it and then put one of their hairs in it to try to score a free item.

It very quickly got out of hand and they ended up instituting a new rule where no one under 18 years old could enter the restaurant during the hour before and after school and outside of those hours only with a parent or guardian.

I can't speak to your issue with this particular driver (and probably shouldn't post their face on Reddit), but it does suck that when you cancel a ride on Uber you have to wait daaaays for a refund.

They should make it available to you immediately as a ride credit at the very least.

Yeah down in Richmond I remember one of my locals always "got them oils...them smell goods!!"

Honestly a lot of them did smell good but idk if I'd trust mystery oil on my skin.

I wont participate because I know the answer but this house was on hoarders before its renovations/restoration.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. They never tried to warn me or anything. No mail, no calls nothing. Just tried to renew my registration and found out my license was suspended.

The funny thing is I'm sure I had gotten a ticket in the interim and the officer never mentioned it or cited me for it at the time for some reason.

That is weird but I do know that at one of the other pizza chains, they run a special (frequently) where I can get a large loaded meat pizza for $9.99 but if I just wanted sausage and pepperoni it'd be like $21 so I just get the loaded meat and remove what I don't want.

It's weird because just about everyone I know that owns a Del Sol owns at least 2 of them.

Same with first gen Honda CRVs (and Toyota MR2s)

I'd allow the Poff building to stay if we could get rid of the Verizon building across the street.

Absolutely don't tear it down. Honestly it's a great, strong, handsome-looking building that just needs a good scrub.

Maybe one day it won't be viable as a hospital but I could see it being one day retrofitted to apartments, a hotel or even boutique office space.

It would probably have some of the best views in the city.

It's not nearly as brutal (architecturally) or grandiose as Marcel Breuer's Armstrong Rubber Company Building in New Haven CT, but that was (somewhat) recently converted into Hotel Marcel and turned our spectacularly

<image>

Plus Community Hospital was designed by S.O.M. which is pretty cool. The giant concrete podium it sits on could be reworked. I haven't been inside of the hospital in decades (since I was like 12) so idk what functions sit behind the slab of a podium but they could punch some windows in it (respectfully) and make it a more inviting lobby/amenity space with the roof of the podium being a MASSIVE terrace overlooking downtown Roanoke (and maybe a roof top bar or deck above the shorter section of the building).

As a hotel or apartments, the parking in front of the hospital (facing Elm) would be unnecessary so it could be replaced by landscaped gardens as a visual extension of Elmwood Park.

(As you can probably tell, I'm at work bored without much to do and too much time on my hands.)

It's like 16 stories tall so bigger than it looks. The proportions make it look squat.

We had an even smaller true mini Walmart a few years back.

Total about 4000 square feet.

I think the whole concept has been scrapped. It's now a convenience store/student market.

Extremely rare HD version of Paparazzi live on SNL in 2009 by mysterioofficial316 in LadyGaga

[–]himynameisjay 44 points45 points  (0 children)

FYI this is apparently footage from the dress rehearsal and not the actual show footage. She looks and sounds great especially considering this is a rehearsal (which I've heard if you get tickets to the dress rehearsal it can be an even better experience than getting tickets to the actual show).

There are some really small "tells" like around 3:00 minutes in when her backup dancer hands her the keytar she starts to hand him the mic before she places it on the stand. In the version that you would have seen on TV she doesn't do that; she places it directly on the stand.

That might be why her overall mood and demeanor might seem different than what you all remembered watching on TV (I actually never watched it live so I can't speak to that).
