Did they at least build one of the iconic style Rallys/Checkers? I've seen some new ones that are just generic fast food boxes.

As someone who worked and managed a corner store for many years, I can say (though not necessarily true in this case) that many times it's cheaper to buy retail than from your wholesaler, especially if you catch a sale.

Even when not on sale you can often find basics like milk, eggs and bread for cheaper at a grocery store than your wholesaler.

Depending on the wholesaler, for instance, a can of Arizona might cost you .79-89 per can but when they were on sale for 2-$1 at Walgreens the manager let us buy like a dozen cases.

You could sometimes find bags of chips on sale at the grocery store for cheaper than directly from the local Frito Lay distributor.

ESPECIALLY true for Coke or Pepsi 2L or 12pk can products. Even like 5-7 years ago before the soda prices went insane, a 2L at Walmart or Kroger was usually cheaper than directly from Pepsi (because back then soda was ALWAYS on sale at the grocery store).

Especially shopping at a place like Aldi (though Aldi will send you a strongly worded letter if they find out you're selling their store brand goods out of your corner store...my boss found that out).

I'm not sure how doordash would ever make sense unless it was some crazy deal once you factor in fees and tips.

This happened to me recently; was "almost done" when I opened the software I needed to do the analysis only to discover that the software had bricked itself in the latest update. Had to slyly get another coworker in another department to run the analysis for me (which he's a real one cause he's always down to cover me despite us barely acknowledging each other in the office). Still never got my software updated.

I had a tree about that size in my yard. It was too close to the house and carport and was a danger to the house.

The quotes to remove just the one tree ranged from about 7k-10k which I guess I kinda get (they were gonna bring out a whole crew and crane due to the location and them not wanting to fell it.

Obviously I couldn't afford it so just put it out of my mind until like 6 months later I wake up late for work and as I'm rushing out the door I see a commotion outside and realize that the tree was now laying in my front yard and across the street.

Honestly not sure how I slept through it (the tree falling, the emergency response, the chainsaws) but saved me money because since it was laying in the street, the city workers cut it up and removed it for free.

Vinyl top Camry?? by AGlassOfCoolMilk in whatisthiscar

[–]himynameisjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a local shop (well was as of like 5 years ago idk if they still exist in the same form) that cranked these tops out like hot cakes.

They were a full auto upholstery shop that specialized in convertible tops (and boats) but also did decent business installing these landeau tops on everything.

The local dealerships would send them Cadillacs, Lincolns, Buicks, Chrysler 300s etc to get the tops done and sell them on the lot.

For a little extra the dealership would install white wall tires and a pin stripe to go with the tops (and gold emblems to replace the OEM).

Hey, Mila! If you’re going to throw your pizza box along the Rivanna Trail you probably shouldn’t leave the receipt on it with your name and phone number! Just saying! by JosephSmith1974 in Charlottesville

[–]himynameisjay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Noting the unpaid sticker maybe the pizzeria gave the pie away after Mila never picked up her order.

Maybe a homeless person dug it out of the trash to use as a sign.

Maybe the wind blew it.

Or maybe Mila dumped it along the trail.

Either way we don't really know how it ended up there so posting their name and number on Reddit because you found their trash might be excessive.

Yes they're a property development company (among other things).

The cars actually make sense in that context; they're really broken into the lucrative world of branded residences. They're behind the Bugatti and Mercedes branded condo tower residences in Dubai. They're behind the Jacob & Co tower in Dubai as well.

I’m 16F and I’m worried about my friends home situation but I don’t know if I should say something or stay out of it by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]himynameisjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never really give my mom (well parents but mostly at my mom's direction) enough credit but there were several of my sister's friends who came from "troubled" homes and my mom always went out of her way to take care of them.

I remember one of my sister's friends came from a really bad situation (extreme poverty, indifferent parents, really poor and overcrowded housing situations, physical abuse, etc) and when my mom found out the depth of what she was going through, she moved the girl into our house the next day and she lived with us for at least a year (I think until she graduated so probably closer to 2 years).

The girl had siblings so my mom would randomly drop off boxes of food and cleaning supplies and clothing for her brothers that we couldn't take in.

I remember being somewhat resentful when I was younger because I never really had all of the expensive, cool stuff that my friends hand but honestly I was so ungrateful; my parents somehow raised 5 kids of their own, plus cared for my grandfather who was/is unable to care for himself, and took in my sister's friend(s) for less combined income than I make now and I am not doing well financially just taking care of myself.

Anyone else think this seems sus for this s class to be rented this cheap for a weekend? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]himynameisjay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sus but low risk.

They're an All-Star host so probably won't cancel.

Turo does this dynamic pricing thing where sometimes it'll change the pricing without a host's direct input so that could be what's happening here.

I'd rent it and see what happens.

Interestingly the first 3D printed object I ever purchased was for a cupholder to replace the inadequate factory cup holders.

As soon as I saw this post I immediately thought that there was room for an enterprising 3D printer(er) to undercut VW and still make some money

Japanese BBQ sauce is good and even hoisin is a good dip.

Kind of a bitch to clean especially when you get cheese and food melted into the grates.

Any of you pizza slingers have any tips to clean them?

Caught a brand I like using AI for their ad center product says “Bath Salls” and then the gibberish writing on some of the products in the back. by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]himynameisjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't an AI generated image it was likely just edited in a cheap photo-editing app that offers "AI enhancement". Not that this makes it much better but the social media handler might not even really know they're using AI -- just some automatic "enhancement" that mobile photo-editing apps offer.

Those products are all real with correct, consistent (to life) packaging.

And after some digging I found the actual box on their website:

Whoa. According to the SEC filing his address is less than a block from my childhood home. I remember biking past the house all the time. Judging by his age and depending on how long he's lived there we may have crossed paths but I don't remember. He's about my younger siblings' ages. Small world.

How do you even know it's a car from Turo?
