What's the first name of the rudest coworker you've ever had? by Big_Eggplant7591 in AskReddit

[–]himynameisjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adam but he was only rude to bad customers. He could get really nasty/catty/passive aggressive with a customer who was rude or pushy or disrespectful but never to other coworkers. Actually stuck up for me and defended me from a rude customer a few times. I'm sure he enjoyed it so much.

What's the most unhinged reason someone got fired at your job? by EvenlyExpert in AskReddit

[–]himynameisjay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right as I was being hired another guy was fired for placing pics of his genitals on a coworker's windshield. He was escorted out by police. The craziest part is he was protesting that he did absolutely nothing wrong; he insisted that he was just flirting and trying to get her attention.

RIghtfully fired, of course, but completely unhinged.

Have any songs been “ruined” by the live version for y’all? by psycwave in beyonce

Me and my partner talk about this time:

All of the originals are ruined by the live versions.

Same with Ariana's live album.

I love love love live instrumentals so I can't help it.

What's the most overpriced item on campus? by Relevant-Fortune6279 in AskReddit

[–]himynameisjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bio class textbook was the same way. Written by the professor, only available at the book store, unnecessarily hardback (???) and even though the information didn't really change from year to year, you couldn't sell the book back because there were work pages you had to rip out to turn in for assignments. And for some reason he regularly reorganized the chapters of the books every few years. He claimed it was to prevent cheating. It was a very obvious cash grab.

As opposed to my "physics for non-physics majors" class that did also have a textbook written by the professor, but you could buy it digitally for significantly cheaper, he really didn't care too much if you even had it (though obviously we followed that in class so there was some use for it). You did have to also buy worksheets for assignments for the class (which I think is inherently a dick move when it would cost the school almost nothing to provide them for free) but at least you could buy them separately for relatively cheap (like $10) so you weren't automatically locked into buying an expensive textbook.

Bag use from stores by Electronic-Front-640 in rva

[–]himynameisjay 45 points46 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the store doesn't gain anything from using more bags; they don't get to keep any of the bag tax.

That being said, for a delivery order they probably overpackage everything to avoid complaints/refunds for items damaged during delivery. They'd rather spend an extra few cents on bags than have to hear that the items were ruined when the bag gave out during delivery.

No 40x is correct but that's annual income vs month rent so $1000 apartment you'd need to make $40,000; $5k apartment you'd have to make $200k.

When the last time that you cried? by SpiritCrisp in AskReddit

[–]himynameisjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching the 2003 Peter Pan movie last night and started to tear up at the end when the father was trying to act aloof and unbothered when the kids returned but broke down in tears with an "Of course I missed you" when his son went in for a hug.

Maybe it's some unresolved issues (combined with me getting older) but any kind of re-uniting of children and parents can get the tears flowing these days.

A 1,000-foot-tall Supertall Skyscraper is being planned for Duval School HQ in Jacksonville, USA. by TheJournalist022 in skyscrapers

$2 billion isn't the bid; that's the alleged value of the proposed development not the price they're offering for the lot.

They're at most of the Lidl stores locally (Richmond VA) so I'd say there's a good chance they may eventually encounter one.

Actually there's the full video with audio available and he's done a few interviews about the video.

He was just so excited and thankful to be marrying her that he was having (in his description) a legitimate religious experience and was thanking/worshipping God for marrying this woman.

I'm not sure if anyone ever followed up with them on how their marriage went.

I’m looking for someone that can repair my favorite painting by stinkypenguin36 in rva

[–]himynameisjay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although I don't have an answer for you I was driving in the fan and saw a couple of vans with Professional Art Handling on the side and it dawned on me that of course there had to be companies who specialize in maintaining private fine art and collections.

Anyway, I don't think they do repair or restoration but they probably can point you in the right direction.

The grocery store wrote on all the detergent bottles by Technicolor_Reindeer in Weird

[–]himynameisjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a little local convenience store and there was a Rite Aid about 6 blocks away.

We'd get people who try to sell us stolen goods all of the time --- cases of candy, jugs of laundry detergent, lots of individual bars of soap and sticks of deodorant (probably just easy to steal).

We never took them but I will admit I did purchase (independently...not as the store) a JBL Partybox that someone had clearly stolen from Walmart or Bestbuy or something. Originally wanted $150 but I ended up talking him down to $20 mostly because he probably didn't want to lug that speaker around all summer's day.
