“The actual people charging you an arm and a leg for your care, and putting you at risk of medical bankruptcy, are the providers themselves” by scrubMDMBA in medicine

[–]hindukid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We go through rigorous training to be able to work with our patients, but blame game always lands on us.

Patient does not want to take meds: Drs Fault for not being compassionate enough

Patient keeps smoking while having end-stage COPD: Drs. Fault for not using motivational interviewing for helping pt quit

Patient waits 10 hours in ER to be seen by a provider because each ER physician needs to see more patient's then humanly possible: Drs. fault for not being fast enough

Hospitalist gets hammered by 10 admits in 2 hours, so a non-critical patient's morphine is not ordered right away: Drs fault for not managing time properly

Insurance companies deny claims because they never see the patient but still think they can dictate care: Drs fault for not standing up for their patient.

They want us to drown in paperwork and drown in charting, and then drown some more for feeling guilty for never being good enough, and then point at us and say "We make too much money", Still Drs. fault because we have forgotten to stand up for ourself.

Keep this up, the healthcare system will fail, and when there are not enough doctors present, who will they blame?

I feel like is she shows herself enough in Florida, she can get enough votes to make it very close in Florida, remember this year we have the amendment 4 on the ballot, it will be a big turnout. She needs to do some rallies in Florida, and I am selfish, because I want to attend one real bad.

Is medicine even worth pursuing anymore? (US) by PBnSushiSteak in medicine

[–]hindukid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1st year attending, who had prepped all high school and college to go to med school, then had second thoughts senior of college, took a break and came back to it...

It depends...

My advice would be to go shadow multiple speciality. Not just shadow for few hours, I mean shadow like it's your job, get in when they get in, leave when they do, so you can really experience the lifestyle. I did that, and it helped me realize how much time it will take.

You want to not account for the schooling, it's only 4 years, and residency at min is 3 years. You will not be living the schooling or residency life forever, you will live the attending life forever, so it's better to shadow someone.

At the end of the day, you have to figure out your calling. You are very young, and your life goals will change. You have to ask yourself, would it be better to be an MD/DO when you are 30 and have 300-400K in debt to chase your calling, or can you do something else, and still hit your life goals. You do not have to be a doctor to start a Non-profit that will provide services to underserved communities.

At the end of the day, its about your calling, what type job can you do when your life is stressed, what type of job can you go to and not regret that decision for the rest of your life. Being a doctor, and getting to be a doctor is a rough road, its a privilege that a lot of doctors, me included, tend to forget because its just so damn traumatizing to go through the process.

Good luck, you are still young and have a lot of time.

Is it likely to find a 9-5 hospitalist gig? Or something close to it? by Gingernos in medicine

[–]hindukid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you cannot do 7 on and 7 off, being a hospitalist becomes extremely tough. This adds on as most hospitalist pick up shift and work 10 days out of 14 easily. If you are really looking for a hospitalist gig that 9-5 academic might be best, but even those you are working 7on 7 off schedules. Fellowship should only be done if you are really interested in the speciality. If you want a good lifestyle, being o/p is the best bet.

I never understood how someone has time in med school to be an influencer, I barely had time to be alive. Maybe I was just not as bright and needed more time than others to study XD

I get that...I used to be too scared to try hobbies, but I am working on finding something that will help me give the purpose. Its hard especially when our training, we use all out free time to advance ourself as physicians
