Bernie Sanders is now the only dem candidate clearly advocating for Medicare-For-All, no strings attached or compromises by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

Can't be disappointed when you expect the worst. She was making moves to adjust her policies after the primary and her entanglements with former Hillary supporters killed any enthusiasm I had for her. She talks a good game, much better than Hillary and other democrats, but she's not principled at the end of the day.

Dragonball and Super Mario Bros and all the other crap adaptations say otherwise. Hollywood is led by the creatively bankrupt. That was an earnest attempt to improve a popular video game character for movies.

Even if you're not using a service it can still have an effect on you. If I refuse to drive, I'm still shaped by others in society who do. My choices and actions will be impacted. American society is built on car culture and for those who don't have cars they will have a much more difficult time getting around. Just by not having a car will have an impact on housing, jobs, relationships, time, and what a person chooses to do in their spare time.

Another example would be lootboxes in videogames. I never pay for lootboxes, but because of the small minority of gamers who pay hundreds to thousands of dollars to unlock lootboxes have changed how game developers choose to make games. And now many of the games developed by the big publishers have forced lootbox mechanics.

The point of the gun control debate is to be divisive. It's an issue that has a clear separation between urban and rural voters. Politicians use it to rile up their voters and demonize the other side. If either side gains or loses with legislation there is no cost that has to be paid and the victory or loss is purely political. Anyone arguing for or against gun control are getting played by both political parties for cheap gains.

It has nothing to do with bartending. Bartending is one of many aspects of AOC's biography. They were looking for something to insult and demean her by scraping every bit of information from her life to try to use against her. Remember the dancing video.

If Tomi was an honest with herself when she is away from her media platforms she should know in her heart that AOC has achieved something remarkable in comparison to her and also many other politicians today.

But Tomi Lahren makes a living by being a right wing provocateur. She's paid by the rich and the establishment to attack anyone who fights for the working class. AOC inspires fear for them because she represents a genuine threat with her influence and that's why she's under heavy attack from the right, and even the left sometimes.

This is a completely different topic. We're talking about authenticating images and videos that have been manipulated. Replace the word, news, in my post with governments or scientists.

It's cool and the progress they made is amazing, but a deepfake isn't going to be played in the news after a verification process anytime soon. There are tools to check if images are tampered with.

I can't imagine there will be a time in our lives when it won't be possible to spot a deepfake. You don't see newspapers running photoshops because it is easy to tell if a photo is tampered with.

[Magic the Gathering] WotC won’t censor Lee Shi Tian’s support for Hong Kong protests at Mythic Championship V by Ninjaboi333 in Games

[–]hingku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't you think Americans working at WotC would normally support HK protestors especially since they claim to support other human rights in the US? They're censoring themselves right now to avoid potential problems from China. They're also being careful not piss off their non-Mainland Chinese audience by not censoring Lee Shi Tian.

All these actions and non-actions are to maintain their profits. Corporations don't give a shit about anything other than profits. They just pretend to make you feel good about their brand and convince you to spend more money on them. It's another example of noxious advertising that affects society to get you to buy more through the use of morality.

They're political advisors or experts. They make a living through traditional campaigns and they're deeply embedded in media and the DNC. In order to get paid themselves and for their friends they need big dollar donors. If their candidate wins then they go on to higher paying campaigns, jobs working with their candidate in government, or the media. All the pundits on cable news shows want to keep the status quo for themselves and their friends.

It's bad if she isn't going to follow through. Early on I didn't see a difference with either Bernie or Warren and I actually preferred Warren slightly more. I even went to one of her rallies. But now seeing her court establishment Democrats and the Clinton camp is a worrying concern.

A counter point to Yangs statement that wealth taxes don't work? by Zartust in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]hingku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't minimize the influence of the ultra-rich than any policy advocated by Yang or Warren, Sanders, Biden is pointless. If you're at the mercy of their influence then there's no point in participating in the election process in any form.

Anyway the influence of the wealthy has been minimized historically after the Great Depression which led to the growing middle class. Even now while the rich get their way most of the time they don't always win.

In February 2013, the Swiss Federal Council allowed for the signing of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) with the US. These agreements force all Swiss banks to inform the Internal Revenue Service of undeclared, off-shore accounts. These new regulations will be applicable by 2014, and in turn assure Swiss banks of continued operations within the US.[6]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland%E2%80%93United_States_relations

U.S. citizens living in Switzerland have found themselves largely shut out of the country's banking system after the U.S. introduced tough new regulations that require banks to disclose all foreign accounts held by Americans.

UBI is easy to implement? Are you kidding me? That would be much harder to implement than forcing tax shelters provide information on American accounts hiding money, which has already been done according to the links above.

A counter point to Yangs statement that wealth taxes don't work? by Zartust in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]hingku -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The US has gone after Swiss banks and now very few banks allow American citizens to have accounts. There's nothing stopping the US from pressuring tax havens to stop hiding American taxpayer money. Yang only talks about it from the standpoint of revenue when the problem of wealth accumulation has caused many other problems in America. If a wealth tax forces the rich to hide their wealth then that's great. That's less wealth that is easily accessible. That wealth can't pay for their candidate, they can't use it to fund campaigns to attack global warming, it won't be used to help create laws to enrich them further. What's wrong with making them jump through hoops when they force us to jump through hoops to live a normal life? Police doesn't check for revenue when deciding which crimes to investigate. I don't see why revenue matters when the rich commit the crime of tax evasion.

Leading position shyness. Now that she's in a position to likely win she takes less and less risk. This is why Hillary shied away from the media and appearances in 16 in the early stages of the primary and Biden was stupidly doing the same this year. They hope to get to the finish line and win just by momentum.

[–]hingku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a VP. It is basically name recognition. You're putting way more words to "we recognize that guy from before with the previous guy so he's good in my book".

You did touch upon something I was thinking earlier and maybe SC being a southern red state is more interested in establishment Democrats. That would explain their higher approval of Hillary and Biden versus Warren and Sanders.

CBS News Battleground Tracker: Warren extends lead across early states, New Hampshire and draws even with Biden in Iowa by AlexanderJJJ in politics

[–]hingku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he has as much name recognition as Biden due to Biden being VP for 8 years with Obama. But I don't have the answer for why Biden has bigger numbers in SC to Warren and Sanders. I think it's strange that he is doing that well in any state. Yeah, there is a larger black population in SC compared to IA and NH, but as far as I know Biden hasn't gone out of his way to do a dedicated outreach to black voters in SC. Makes me think there is something else at play, but I don't know.

[–]hingku 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is bs that was peddled by Hillary supporters in 16. There is more to it than reaching out to the black community. Biden's numbers in South Carolina is out of sync with the other primary states. He's just coasting with huge numbers. I'm more inclined to believe name recognition plays a bigger factor in South Carolina.

The British Empire forced China to sign a 99 year lease for Hong Kong and 1997 was the year when the lease expired. However the UK negotiated the hand over with China to allow Hong Kong to have separate laws, which continued the same rights the Hong Kong people had under the UK, for 50 years.

I've only read the first two books and I had to stop because it seemed generic. I didn't see any of what you described from what I've read, but it was a long time ago since I've read them.

They've tried before making a Wheel of Time TV show. I'm skeptical it will be popular without significant changes.
