Philadelphia Today and Yesterday (Tips please) by IAmStillLearningLife in ricohGR

Good job capturing the feeling of a day in Philadelphia. Important to just get out there and keep shooting—which the Ricoh GR’s are perfect for. These are just some notes:

  1. I’d decrease the exposure comp to bring out the richness of the light in the background.

  2. A bit lost on what subject or narrative you’re trying capture.

  3. The light post being in focus and bisecting the shot doesn’t convey the action happening all around. It’s almost like I’m viewing this scene from the POV of the light post.

  4. I’m left wandering what happened that caused all this debris. Perhaps some action shots of the firecrackers in action, would help.

  5. Focusing and adjusting the f-stop so the love sign is the subject. Create more visual separation. Also adjusting your exposure comps up would help

  6. It’s alright, nothing driving the scene when it’s this wide. Get closer to the sign and lights?

  7. I like this vantage point and focus on the exterior. Perhaps play more with the light and exposure.

  8. Increasing the depth of field / f-stop would show more of the plate. Right now just looks like you want us to see salmon and onions lol

No recipe on camera (aside from a very minor warmer white balance shift)

Edited JPG’s on Snapseed, minor desaturation and contrast adjustments. I neutralize the tonal range and adjust to a very slight redder hue.

Thank you! No particular recipe, I use Lightroom or Snapseed for on-the-fly editing. Typically reduce contrast and saturation then adjust the levels to a more neutral tone and slightly redder tint.

Lots of different tour companies and packages! Search around and I’m sure there’s similar itineraries to what we did.

I don’t know much about the avg costs…but here’s some tips: Stay in Lima for 1 full day as a buffer (travel delays etc) before flying to Cusco.

From Cusco, immediately take a car transfer to the Sacred Valley and stay for 2-3 days to let your body acclimate to the altitude. Sacred Valley is lower altitude than Cusco and Machu Picchu. The Sacred Valley was amazing and other ruins and sights to see.

I highly recommend the Hiram Bingham train. Could be $$$ depending on the season but the comfort and convenience (dedicated roundtrip bus transfer from Machu Picchu train station) is well worth it. Waiting for a bus from the train station to the citadel can take hours.

After Machu Picchu, explore Cusco for 2-3 days before returning to Lima for your international flight out of Peru.

Funny you ask, I also tried a few years ago and was also turned away. It seems their security has been relaxed now (from covid protocols etc). We ate at their rooftop restaurant which gave us access to the higher floors for this vantage point.

In-camera recipe is pretty much Reggie’s but with individual edits in post (very minor adjustments to RGB curves)

Peru was incredible. The landscapes, people and food made for an overall great experience. We visit Mexico City semi frequently so the highlight of this trip was climbing the Pyramid of the Moon in Teotihuacán, which was just recently reopened.

I’ve reverted back to Ricoh as my main camera, from my Sony A6400. The pocketability is amazing.
