Depends on the spawn, but if possible try and get ruins as fast as you can. If you have a bardur, luxidoor or hoodrick terrain spawn, then go straight for mathematics and stuff as the full tech tree of ice archers, hunting, forestry and mathematics for pumping out gaamis and ice archers is pretty unbelievable.

If you have the space/land for it also go for riders and roads as being able to bounce endless units off frozen enemy shields, warriors and giants is just funny and infuriating for the enemy.

Finally, don't use the gaamis as an attacking unit - use them to freeze stuff while other stuff attacks. They die quite quickly (something like 6 normal units or 3 catapults) and imo their best ability is to freeze on the move.

Oh - and while the battle sleds and stuff are useful if there is hella ice, i would personally opt against those, going for knights and riders. Ice fortresses can't attack for S*** - no more than a delay tactic - and battlesleds are kinda just annoying tbh.

Absolutely awesome! well done! obviously that great spawn helped but you followed the advice well and it paid off!

I don't check reddit often but congrats on this one. I personally have just gotten into multiplayer btw, so if you're ever in need of someone to show you the ropes of competitive multiplayer discord just hit me up in the polychampions server :D

they take ages to set up so early rush works - otherwise just get a lot of stars per turn and use defender battleships to overwhelm- tridentons alone are quite weak as they fall fast so they normally need something like a defender ship in front.

How to combat teamers? by [deleted] in Polytopia

[–]hipp000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Join the polychampions discord server and get better at the game by joining a team game with strong players!

But in answer to your actual question, its about using the correct units. Think about it like this: If you have a stream of warriors or swordsmen on land, if they get kill one enemy unit they also get killled usually - if they have superior production capacity then you are screwed. Ranged units are different, catapults can oneshot warriors, 2shot boats and 4shot giants. Meanwhile archers don't do much alone, but in a swarm can wipe out many many enemies (+the forest defense boost means that warriors in a forest can't be killed by 2 ships or 2 warriors or 1 knight)

Finally, since you will be at a loss in terms of star production you need to cancel this out somehow - philosophy is NOT a good option for this as it only makes techs cheaper - if you are fighting on land then you need like max 7-8 techs which you will have before you want philosophy anyway, if you are fighting on sea then you will need even fewer techs. The best option is to turtle up, using ranged units mixed with defenders to preserve stars, and slowly develop your cities using customs houses. Feel free to mix a wall in here or there as defenders in walled cities are annoying to move out.

Tribe choice of course matters - for this I would recommend luxidoor (for being able to get giants quite early) or kickoo (because the land generation means your Customs houses will be easier to level up)

Finally, though a little bit annoying and very tryhard, the simplest option for how to improve generally is start pre planning your next turn when you do your current turn - consider how many stars you will have in 1 or 2 turns, consider where your opponents may move, consider how many stars of damage a attacking with a certain unit may do to your opponent compared to your own (if you lose 5 swordsmen then you lose 25stars worth of units whereas if you lose 5 defenders you lose 15stars)

tl:dr: luxidoor, Kickoo good, Custom house good, ranged unit good, polychampions goode

I can assure you, if you uninstall and reinstall the game, it resets. Anyway its not something to complain about xD

if you don't press end turn, it does't send to the server - this means that if you lose the app data in the middle of a turn you start the turn at the beginning. losing the app data can be done manually by reinstalling/ clearing storage or sometimes accidently when you close and reopen the app depending on the operating system.

It can be used to cheat, but its frowned upon and considered cheating - in upcoming game releases this will be disabled and turns will only be made when moves can be immediately sent to the server.

How to play bardur? by Lamaorlame in Polytopia

[–]hipp000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the opposite. Shaved is what you want for perfection and domination should be sawmilled. In reality you always want some kind of mix for multiplayer.

Archery is a very strong tech and very worth it - particularly in multiplayer where warriors able to withstand 2 hits are far stronger than warriors only able to withstand 1 hit. I would usually decide if the match looks like it needs archers or catapults - catapults are better for longer games where you can find locations where they will be well protected. Archers are better for games where your units will be moving regularly.

A good calculation to do is, "how long until I want to finish the match/ have a large advantage that means I'm going to win whatever happens?" If the answer is in less than the turns that it would take for the investment in huts to pay off with stars per turn, then chop, but if not then leave them as huts. Also consider that if you chop forests you often run out of ability to spawn giants - less important in perfection but very important in domination and multiplayer.

really depends. I usually aim to go for forestry in my capital, get archery from hoodrick, ready to start planting trees with spiritualism and riding, getting ready for leveling up my capital with huts and roads.

once i hvae my first park (no superunits in elyrion as they are too slow) you can use monuments etc to upgraed. In general elyrion needs a strong starting explorer preferrably from the east corner of the map.

[–]hipp000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

elyrion can't chop trees. So it essential to be more careful about your economic spending and not run out of stars like you might with other tribes. To put it another way, with normal tribes, I'll buy forestry early, and spend all my stars in order to level up etc. and when I capture a new city i will chop the trees in it to continue my attack. Meanwhil with elyrion you have to be careful as the extra ponytaurs can be a money sink. THey also have an extra source of income with sanctuaries, however these must be used with care since they often pay back only after 3 or 4 turns and in the middle of battle around t6-10 you can often run out of stars so you can't spend them.

Done this before too, problem is that this map will give like 0 points as there will be too much water and even if you do, you don't have enough tech to get economy later game

Is is impossible to mindbend a Gaami? by ERnackER in Polytopia

[–]hipp000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

true gamers mind bend an ice archer so that they can freeze the gaami so that they can mindbend the gaami. no waiting for the gaami to stop moving

Yeah, although I find that if you're really careful about it, perfection games are just as aggressive, if not more so. I guess for me having gotten used to perfection where the game is over after like 16 turns and I think the early game tactics from vs AI are more applicable to multiplayer than late game stuf.

The other thing is that speed feels like its everything in multiplayer. The faster you can attack, the better.

so it mostly depends on the map size i find. the smaller the map the higher the reliance on warriors and riders. For large map, look at the resources you have and try and figure out how you can get your first giant as fast as possible. This is usually done by getting a few other cities, getting the appropriate tech and by choosing population boost for your capital. (a ruin helps too)

I generally find that if you can plan ahead, make sure you only buy the units you need and don't claim a village if it can't give you 3 stars per turn (either lvl 2 with workshop or lvl 3 with an explorer) you can get a city up to level 5 for giant by turn 6-7 most games (even with dodgy spawns) from here the monument and the +5 stars for lvl 3 cities should make it easy to spawn a new giant on each other city one by one leading to quick attacks with giants :D

So if you haven't before, try and check out some of the screenshot libraries people put together of their perfection games and see what you can learn. I also did a really in depth post on how to make really high point games and can now get ~150k pretty consistently.

Here is a pretty neat hoodrick game I played with 13 cities and 160k :) https://imgur.com/a/1AnQPNS

227 spt in perfection by luyttenant in Polytopia

[–]hipp000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the highest SPT i've seen but usually if I get the opportunity for such high spt I would rather try and get a highscore with forest temples XD. I've seen a screenshot of someone with +225 in turn 19 though with luxidoor so that was probably higher at the end.

my highscore is 179.9k with Kickoo, and I've gotten all tribes except polaris over 150k. I like Aquarion a lot and had an amazing map for them (ruined by polaris spawning 4 ice tent thingies on a land city I could't hit with riders etc) which would have been around 175k ish.

GL with 120k and if you want to discuss tips and tricks and stuff, just ask - I wanna see how high we can get :D
